Someone needs to point out to ITV and fifa that it's not destiny that Brazil will win this, it's extremely dodgy refereeing. I started out wanting Brazil to do well, now I wanna see em get stuffed.

It's turning into a shameful world cup, I make that four red cards Brazil have got away with now, Fernandinho could have been off twice tonight and about the same against Chile. Feel sorry for Colombia who have been cheated out of playing on a level playing field and hope Neymar is hurting, just about what this Brazilian team deserve.

Right but if Luiz had chopped him down the keeper wouldn't have counted as being "cover"

Added into the fact he's gone in knee height about two minutes late

It should have been red, end of debate.

A game that might have been. Fernando oh should have been booked for his first foul on James and that would have changed the game.

I hate it when refs try and manage a game - their job is to implement the rules.

Why is there no mention of the shocking refereeing and the fact that it's been favourable to Brazil every game. I'm sure it's a written law somewhere that the world cup has to be shown on terrestrial tv so it's not like it can be taken off air???

If Brazil do win the whole thing, then Neymar can go suck a d!ck, Silva for Golden Ball, and hopefully a large, unjustifiable transfer to Real (if we're going to spend stupid... it would be nice to spend stupid on a class player).

Outside of being a part of the PSG side that gave the worst rendition of defending a 3-1 lead at Stamford Bridge, I don't think I've seen Silva have a poor game. He's certainly not as liable to an inexplicable error as Kompany.

I think Silva has replaced Lahm as my favourite footballer.

Just back from watching the match, absolutely disgusted. How Brazil can justify being where they are is beyond me. Fifa have lain out their path to the final. Corruption at its best (or worst).

Neymar is again a proper disgrace to football and as for Fenandinho... No comments can suffice to why he is still playing in this world cup.

I hope that Germany beat them but I fear the same thing will happen, Brazil will get all the decisions and Germany will get left wanting. Disgrace.

Maldini was an old man who had proved himself for the best part of 20 years Raf being a fundamental part of the single greatest defence there's ever been. Silva is good i'm not denying that but in the biggest game of his career so far he's failed, the world cup will prove nothing to me because his whole team have the benefit of very suspect refereeing.

I'm not buying the criticism of Thiago Silva. Look at special playing along side him, David Luiz. Luiz would make Baresi or Beckenbauer look bad.

Franco Baresi(along with Beckenbauer the two best CBs of all time)rates Thiago Silva, that's more than good enough for me.

The officiating in this match was dreadful. James was mullered 7 times by the piece of crap Fernandinho, yet somehow Fernandinho never received a warning let alone a card. Even if James was decapitated, I doubt the ref would've booked Fernandinho.

And how Julio Cesar wasn't sent off is a greater mystery.

Pathetic referee aiding a pathetic side.

True, but then again Maldini was a left back turned centre back. Mind you Maldini was a pretty damn great CB.

Maybe Fabio Cannavaro is the best out and out CB I've seen in recent times.

Nesta was like a baby Maldini, he had more pace and height over Fabio.

But Fabio's reading of the game, IMO, was the difference between pair.

Luckily for Italy they where a formidable pairing

I haven't been convinced by Colombia. They are clinical on the counter attack but are quiet defensive. Japan dominated them but lacked firepower in the final third. Greece did the same too. I would fear for Colombia if and when they face any team with a real threat in front of goal.
I stand by that. I was not as impressive with Colombia beating poor teams in the group stages (there were dominated by Greece, Ivory Coast and Japan in terms of possession in all three games).

Samuel was very talented but had the tendency to get sent off for a moment of madness.

Ayala was a magnificent CB.

Jaap Stam was a great CB, but tarnished by the drugs ban.

Rafael Marquez was phenomenal during his career as well.(not retired yet but he's 36 now)

It's hardly his fault the refereeing has been suspect, would you like him to quit the world cup in protest? The Brazil team has had dodgy calls, but it's hardly made Marcelo look like the reincarnation of R. Carlos, or Hulk the re-imagining of R9. Even Neymar's star has waned, so I don't buy the argument that he's being helped look good... Simply because it seems to have done fu.ckall to make anyone else in that side look good. Silva is still 2x all Serie A first XI. One time UEFA XI, And was the best player Milan had in his time there. The move to PSG maybe wasn't the best professionally, but I think he's proved himself enough for me...

That said, I obviously missed Baresi and co, but old Maldini is still probably the defender I've seen. Remember training to become a left back because of him, had the pace and power... just didn't have the left peg...

Suspect refereeing does play a part, he has two midfielders in front of him who have free rein to foul at will and a top class defender does make his partner look better than he is. Ferdinand could make Brown look like a world beater because he co-ordinated the defence so well something Silva can't do, not a slight on him personally just more the general standard of defenders at the moment. He is one of the top two defenders in the world but neither are in my opinion anything special.

Perfect situation is Brazil squeeking past the germans, 1-0 injury time goal. Face the Dutch in the final and get absolutely mullered 4-0 with 3 disallowed goals for the dutch too ;-)

Couldn't agree more with this. And now I see Scolari has been bleating about how Neymar has been kicked all tournament, and the foul that finished his tournament didn't even get a yellow. How he has the audacity to say that after sending his team out to kick James out the game is beyond me. I feel very sorry for Neymar, but it's just karma as far as the Brazilian team is concerned.

The heat is on Brazil now. Most likely a Germany v Netherlands or Argentina Final.
However, it would be nice to see Belgium make it. Think 3rd or 4th place was their best finish in '86?

Obviously not nice to see someone get injured but glad he's out the WC. Sick to death of hearing 'Neymar this, Neymar that'. Apart from dismantling Cameroon & a scuff vs Croatia, he's not done too much for me. Guess when they go out to Germany, the excuses will be no 'Neymar or Silva', that's how delusional they will end up being, that with them, they think they could of beaten the Germans & won the WC playing that poorly.

German/Messi final is probably what I hoping for now.

Germany will probably falter at the last stages again, just like every tournament since 2006. I just hope it's the final, if they do, not the semifinal.

Knew Brazil would beat Colombia. The other SA teams often play with fear when they come up against Brazil and it showed yesterday. Poor refereeing or not, I was disappointed with Colombia who looked intimidated by the occasion. Barely troubled Cesar in the 90 minutes.
Germany showed yesterday they can churn out the wins even against form teams. Gotta admire them! Several key players out injured and several others with a possible illness - and they still get the job done.

No team is playing well in this knockout phase of the tournament. Whoever wins, will crawl over the line. The expansive attacking games are over, now it's the business end & it's getting scrappy. When games start to turn into wars, the referee becomes centre of attention & the majority just aren't upto the job & have massive impacts upon the outcome of the game.

Flu in the camp, couple of games in hotter conditions and extra time recently. Now got a decent rest - I think they should improve for the semi.
