Unfortunately Socal one of Brazils players was gonna get a kicking eventually, as the more player get kicked off the field with nothing being done, the more annoyed they get, especially when it's obvious that they are getting the benefit of the doubt EVERY time.
It's a shame one of the better players is out and hopefully he'll recover with no lasting challenge but maybe it will stop Scolari sending his players out with the message to kick lumps out of others.

Yep when you're coming up to the semifinals and no team has really impressed, rather they're all largely mediocre, then you realise this is a wide open tournament that plenty of teams could have won. Costa Rica being a penalty shootout from the last four probably tells it all.

I wonder if there is some deluded Cameroonian out there somewhere saying stuff like "Such a wide-open tournament will further frustrate Cameroon, as they could have given it a real go."

socal1976 wrote:I find it pretty shocking that a lot of people on this site actually feel like Neymar got what he deserved or was faking at the time when he got kneed in the back. When I saw the knee in the back it looked pretty vicious and at least deserving of a yellow card. Neymar isn't even as close to as big a diver as Robben, I still don't want either guy to be injured and knocked out of the tournament. Some of the commentary during the Brazil match and even after the news that the kid had a fractured vertebrae on this site has been pretty harsh and borderline grotesque. Neymar is a major talent and has carried an anemic Brazil attack in this world cup, I certainly don't watch tournaments and hope that players like him get their vertabrae crushed and get knocked out of tournament they have worked for 4 years to win. In fact, I read reports that a couple of inches up and the kid could have had a career ending or even crippling injury.
Socal1976,
Neymar dives just as much as Robben (both are poor for it) but Neymar's reactions after every slight touch is to writhe in pain solely to get a fellow professional a card and that to me is the worst kind of diving. People were bound to question his integrity when he went down due to the fact that he always reacts as if he has received a serious injury, its the 'Boy who cried Wolf' syndrome.
My personal opinion is that its slightly gamesmanship from the Brazil camp and don't think that Neymar's tournament is actually over, that's just me though.
If he is indeed seriously injured then I wish him a speedy recovery. He is a very talented player but that doesn't excuse his blatant cheating in my books.
James from Columbia was kicked all over the park by a Brazilian team set up to nullify his threat by kicking him everywhere and not once did he complain, he just got on with the game. That's a player I like to see and respect.

Can't remember seeing a less convincing attempt at winning a knockout match than Costa Rica's effort last night. Started playing for penalties at the opening kickoff.

I think Costa Rica changed their game to nullify Holland. Which for the most part they did. Sneijder at least has arrived and shown the class he has, absolutely top notch performance.

The last thing Costa Rica wanted to do was to give RVP, Robben and Depay space to run into and use

All true Dolphin.
Sneijder has recovered his form during the course of the comp, for sure. Could easily have had a hat-trick. And Robben is on fire. Van Persie has been flat since the early rounds. He must be saving his best for Argentina. I hope.

For some reason those two just don't seem to gel on the field, so it tends to be one or the other.Gibson wrote:Sneijder has recovered his form during the course of the comp, for sure. Van Persie has been flat since the early rounds.

So Brazil have appealed against the one match ban of Silva.. http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/28185948
This is getting ridiculous. They will probably win as well since Fifa will step in because they desperately want Brazil to win this.
Seriously fed up to the back teeth with this Brazil team. Neymar could have seen several yellows and a ban but was looked upon leniently by the Ref's. How Fernandinho escaped punishment is beyond me as he has been a fouling machine but not picked by Ref's because of is importance to the Brazil team.
They have been given a free ride and yet still have the gaul to complain and appeal against one decision against them.
Corruption reigns supreme here. Really fed up with Fifa and Brazil.

Classless team run by a classless manager. Simply poor.
I really used to love Brazil as a team, played some fantastic football but in the last 20 years they really have formed into such a classless bunch that I am desperate to see lose.

I see Neymar is teeing up his miracle.
Wouldn't be surprised to see him in the semi, would really get the country even more behind them.

I'd love to see a Germany Holland final, with Holland winning.
If Failing that, Germany Argentina.
An Argentina win v Brazil would be funny, but would like to see Germany beat Brazil.

I have this feeling that Germany are going to copy Brazil in their tactics of falling over ever three seconds and trying to get players sent off. Doesn't bode well for the match and as much as I want to see Germany win, I cant see that happening. Too much home ground advantage and the ref's will again be conned by the Brazilian players.

Ideal situation for me would be for Germany to win 1-0 with Klose getting the goal and breaking Ronaldo's record. That would be some achievement but for me, Ronaldo will always be the best striker I have seen at World Cups.

Re: Rio de Janiero - 2014 Fifa World Cup Thread
The German team is just soo much better on paper, even with Sami. Gonna take a special performance from Brazil to win this, or a referee job the likes of which hasn't been seen since South Korea. Germany have the talent to blow this Brazil team to shreds, but I suspect they'll just grind, which could be a mistake.

Are the German team that much better on paper though? I think that they may be slightly better but not much better. If the game is refereed well then I can see a very boring game going to extra time and possibly penalties (although Brazil will not want penalties against Germany).

Re: Rio de Janiero - 2014 Fifa World Cup Thread
I think they are... Lahm is an elite defender, Hummels as well, while Boateng is better than decent in the middle. Germany's midfield chows Brazil's, and Klose vs Hulk/Fred maybe a toss-up in club colours, but it's one way traffic in national colours

Re: Rio de Janiero - 2014 Fifa World Cup Thread
Germany's organisation and superior midfield could be the undoing for Brazil.
I think the Europeans have the better team, but the South Americans have a potentially pivotal advantage in that they're at home.
Close, but I'll favour Germany!
