Re: Surrey vs Glamorgan LV=County Championship
Some late impetus from Tremlett shortly before lunch takes us to a lead of over 300 and an exceptionally strong position. However, I would rather have had a lead of around 230 and a couple of 'em back in the hutch now.
Just have an anxous feeling about this game as it continues to rain here ....

Re: Surrey vs Glamorgan LV=County Championship
Glamorgan quickly wiped 50 off the target by tea - also gutted for Wilson but we really should have declared before lunch. Is it just me or are some of our players still more concerned with personal achievements than with the team as a whole?

Re: Surrey vs Glamorgan LV=County Championship
Very little sympathy for Wilson from me. Imo, we should have declared a lot earlier and have increased the chances of a draw through batting on too long.
Wilson really should have taken a leaf out of Roy's and Tremlett's books and cracked on with it. If he had done that, it would have improved his chances of a ton and ours of a win. He has no one to blame but himself and is lucky to have been allowed so long to get so near.

Both the openers bagged by Batty (surprised Ansari bowled before him in both innings) before the close. That makes me less grumpy but don't expect a until we get the other 8!

Re: Surrey vs Glamorgan LV=County Championship
A curiosity - both openers LBW Batty for 73. Could be difficult for Surrey to take the remaining 8 wickets tomorrow; hopefully the pitch will be taking a bit more spin. Harold could have declared a fraction earlier but I didn't really expect a declaration before lunch

Re: Surrey vs Glamorgan LV=County Championship
I would have declared earlier, either at lunch or certainly when Tremlett was out but just like against Hampshire, the early morning dismissal of Roy made a considerable difference to the equation.
It looks like it will be hard work to take the other eight wickets but I've just seen the two dismissals and both deliveries seemed to straighten so I take some encouragement from that. The highlights package however didn't show the dozens of balls that presumably did nothing.
It's a cliche now but 'crucial first session' - probably need at least five down by lunch.

Re: Surrey vs Glamorgan LV=County Championship
Glamorgan's morning but Surrey are still in with a chance. Desperately need a cluster of wickets though and the deficit is ticking down.
A more general point Surrey are over bowling Matthew Dunn this season and could face the consequences if they don't protect him better. At least there is a break in Surrey's Championship schedule after this match although of course he's recently been used in the T20 side as well.

Re: Surrey vs Glamorgan LV=County Championship
Beehive - you make a good point about the risk of Dunn being over bowled. One reason for that is Tremlett's frailty and the continuing need to protect him. Hardly ever does Tremlett bowl anything other than a short or shortish spell. At the end of last season I would have cut our losses on Tremlett - that probably would have been a mistake as he's been a lot more effective than I expected this year. However, for me, there's still a bit of a dilemma in having to work things around him and the possible consequences (eg Dunn).
As regards this match, I'm still in grumpy mode despite JimBob's attempt to cheer me up. Yes, we could still take those remaining 6 wickets and win but I feel - whatever the final result - we've made things more difficult and anxious than needed to be.
Glam now trail by 70 odd but with 6 wickets in hand (including Allenby, the man that Surrey make look like Sobers!). I would far rather they were 100 ahead but with only 2 or 3 wickets left. Feel that couid well have been the case if we had declared around 12 noon yesterday.

Getting more anxious and grumpy. We need someone to clobber Charlie Cooke and take him out the game.

Tea. Glam 375/7, lead by 18.
Just when the game seemed almost up, 2 wickets from Harinath have given us another sniff. However, Cooke stlll there and now on 75.
What odds on Roy and Davies opening in a mad dash for victory?

Re: Surrey vs Glamorgan LV=County Championship
A very fine win for Surrey. I must admit there were times when I thought the wicket combined with Glamorgan's resilience was going to mean the match would end in a draw but Harinath's golden arm tipped things Surrey's way.
I have been amongst those that would have declared Surrey's second innings a little sooner but as things worked out the timing of the declaration was good enough for the win.
Harinath - 79 runs for once out and two vital wickets - can he still be the man who drops out of the next Championship match to make way for Dilshan or is Davies now vulnerable ?

Ok, so I'll be the first to whisper the 'P' word. We have 4 CC2 games left. 2 are against the bottom two, one against going nowhere mid-table Kent, and one against runaway leaders Worcestershire. Dare I suggest it's just about in our own hands?

A very fine victory today. If Jimbob has not already cracked open a few bottles the bar is open!
Sounds like a master stroke bringing on secret weapon Harinath to take his second and third wickets in first class cricket! Harold must be enjoying his captaincy when that sort of move comes off.

Strange things are happening down at Surrey it seems: Tremlett can bat, Harinath can bowl (and bat quickly) Jason Roy has knuckled down, Gary Wilson is a tactical genius. Graham Ford has worked absolute wonders.
