Live fight thread
First topic message reminder :
Haven't seen any mention of the fights yet so thought I'd start a thread. Rocky Fielding not getting everything his own way so far.
Not the most exciting looking card.
What's everyone's thoughts for the night?

Re: Live fight thread
Callum should fight Marco Antonio Rubio before fighting for a title, that would be a real test against a smaller man. sooner than that he should fight unbeaten J'Leon Love (watched his fight against biosse).

He's doing a job as Daddy's parrot.
Left to his own devices Eddie would be selling used cars.

Not really, I've not been cad jockeying for almost 2 years. Are you angry about something?

Never have and never will be a Grindcore journalist, worked for Metalhammer before it became too favourable to certain. Metal does encompass Grindcore but was never my area of expertise outside of Napalm Death's debut album. Grindcore draws it's roots from punk and is a very politically driven genre so how you come to your sicko opinion you must explain.

No not angry just thought we could talk about working in the same sector. I thought you were a fully qualified architect as opposed to a cad monkey.

Saying goodbye to this thread as it looks like going the way so many others have with the 'my dad's harder than your dad' chat.
Wheels in motion for Clev Bellew 2. Song and dance at the end and Bellew pretending to jump through the ropes at the end will have done no harm in creating interest.
For those staying up for Lara Canelo, enjoy the fight.
Hope they put on a show for you

Quite often when I tell people I do Archaeology they say 'Oh you most be loaded designing buildings and that'
Sadly I am not loaded...but I do it for the love and not the money anyway. I think when you enjoy something it is a success in itself and not all about the size of your wallet
Anyway enough of this 'my cat is blacker than yours' nonsense
Lets hope Clev busts up Bellew and shuts him up for good

Re: Live fight thread
Well. Thoughts on tonight....here goes.
Callum Smith had a brilliant checklist fight. Can he handle pressure, does he have an engine, how is his chin?
All checked out In a great performance against a handy fighter for this stage of his career IMO.
Anthony Joshua is a complete mean beast. The man impresses me every fight I see him in, even if it is Skelton. Bring on a Tony Thompson to gauge his level or maybe a Chisora. Great attributes, mean jab and beastly power. Roll on next month.
L.Campbell looked average if I'm honest. Was made to work hard, seemed to have lost a bit of power and accuracy....could be due to the 5 month break, but should be doing better given the hype. Hopefully just a one off.
Cleverley....over rated, poor defence, completely wrong trainer. Face first all fight, good body punching against some fat Argentinian..... Writing was on the wall.
Bellew....over rated, no where near world class, got caught again far too easy like Nathan, knocked out a guy you can't even search on YouTube and who has a box rec record equal to me...non existent. Knocked out a guy he was supposed to knock out. Say no more.
What's frustrated me tonight is yet again the guy who sits with Jim Watt. He is an utter man sausage face.
"belles just knocked out a guy nobody else has, we never expected that, but he shows now that he has real world power. Corked that left hook and POP "
But earlier they said
"Does Santos has a very good KO percentage...although he has those against lower level fighters"
Eh?
So if he has only been fighting lower level fighters all career (which he has), then that's why he has never been stopped you bunch of idiots.
It was sickening.
Cleverly vs Belles is a great grudge match against two average fighters in a poor division. Period.
The only reason the stepped up is because they got wiped out by the first real fighter they faced at LHW in Stevenson and Kovalev!!
Roll on Canelo vs Lara and Mares/Lopez.
Should be fun.
Ideas of ring walk times?

I've been in property for nearly 20 years. I don't tell porkies on forums and never have. With property its ups and downs. In my first ten years credit was so easy the job was simple. Since 2008 its been tougher. As well as working with other peoples money I also have a modest personal residential portfolio.

Never really thought you did, just being a bit facetious. I made my own start up in '07, on paper a bad time economy wise but did well enough through residential work although that brought it's own problems. Progressed to bigger commercial ventures, less stress and more money but generally if something went wrong it was potentially catastrophic. Through the contacts I made I was able to invest in commercial property, the only affiliation I have with design work at present is a co ownership of a Harrogate based design & PM outfit run by someone infinitely more talented than me. Nice work by the way, people think it's easy money but it's a volatile market at times, experience goes a long way. Anyway I've been at York races all day (2 winners out of 8, rubbish) and am knackered and mildly intoxicated, so therefore off to bed, good night all.

I had never heard the term "Grind Core" before you used it. You said you specialized in it. My heavy metal knowledge extends to the Black Album by Metalica.
I know about guitarists like Steve Vai, Satriani, Dimebag, Tom Morello and a few others from reading guitar mags as a kid. I know a litttle bit about punk through liking the Dead Kennedy's.
I really dislike most heavy metal especially 80's American crap when they were wearing make up.
I decided you were sick when I watched the first 30 seconds of this video from a Grind Core band.

Re: Live fight thread
Napalm Death haven't been a grindcore band for 20 years Strongy, what you see there is an extreme and rather poor version of Death Metal. Many bands go through transformations in there time and ND are one of them, you can't label their later stuff alongside their early stuff, completely different personel and style. Much like Darkthrone started as a death metal before metamorphisising into one of the originators of black metal
I know exactly what I specialise in and Grindcore isn't it but a word of advice don't try and use Youtube and Wikipedia to win an argument on music, those who know what they're talking about will just shoot down.
Satriani and Vai, the pentatonic scalers, a pair of the most over rated guitarists you'll ever find.

I expressly said I have no knowledge of heavy metal music although I know James Hatfield has said he wanted to blast 80's glam metal off the stage, remember we had that conversation?
Neither Satriani or Vai are know for playing the pentatonic scales. Both were/are heavily into modal scales, Vai favouring the lydian mode of the major scale which was something he picked up playing with Frank Zappa. Satriani leans towards the phrygian mode but uses every mode going. In terms of modes of the major scales I have always liked the Dorian, I got that from listening to Santana. After a while the scales don't mean that much and you just play the notes you think are right.
Although not a fan of Satriani or Vai I have seen them both live, I used to go to a lot of gigs. Both are amazing players. The problem with both of them is when they play only their own music, they are incredibly boring and Vai is a super nerd. As side men though they bring a lot to the table.
I'll take Segovia or Wes Montgomery playing the guitar over any heavy metaller any day of the week.

Herrera gets a close decision go his way!! Entertaining fight too. Perez did more damage to Herrera than Garcia did.
Sounds like most have a similar score of Herrera three or four up.

Gripping kind of fight in its own way.
I feel a little disappointed in Lara, if he'd sat down and thrown a bit more, gained more respect then i feel he would have taken it.
Still, Canelo did what he had to and was the one forcing the fight. Respect to him for taking the fight and for winning it.

Re: Live fight thread
Wow. I had Lara winning by 4 rounds tonight. Handily. Alvarez was just reminding me of Hatton. Plodding forward throwing wild punches, majority not even cconnecting and then hitting body shots. Lara just outjabbed him and did at times make him look average at best. 116-112 for me.
On a side note, the favouritism is getting a bit of a joke in boxing now.
These fighters can NOT be allowed to continue winning these fights when they don't deserve it.
117-111 to ALVAREZ?! That's probably the worst score card I have seen since....oh yes....Alvarez grabbed a 114-114 with May weather!!!
Its ridiculous. GBP are just paying judges for this guy to stay in the game.
Any decent boxer just beats him.
Night folks, I knew it would happen, just dissapointing.

Watched it, scored it 116-112 Lara. It's close enough to understand a card going the other way, but 117-111 suggests the fix was in pretty early.

Re: Live fight thread
116 - 112 to canelo. Lara fighting like an amateur point scoring with a jab while on the run (I can see people scoring it, I just can't). Someone posted about Lara having the opportunity to burst onto the boxing scene and win fan recognition with a performance against Canelo, well he ran from that opportunity.
I really thought Lara was better than that, I thought he could fight in the pocket, His performance reminded me of Witter against Judah. Fair play to Canelo for taking the fight but Lara's cuban track experience made it a horrible watch. And people say Rigondeaux is hard to watch?

Jimbo, given the fact that the punch output stats were similar... is it safe to assume you gave Alvarez some rounds for essentially being willing to keep chasing Lara around, for no reward?

Re: Live fight thread
Yeah Raf, I do admit that I favored aggression. I can see it not being judged effective aggression, but I just got so frustrated with Lara on the run. I can totally see scoring the other way around.
I think I watched it with the premise that this was going to be a great fight, I thought Lara would bust Canelo up and make him look silly, Canelo would eventually catch up with him and stop him late. My scoring could also be hampered by how wrong my prediction was.
