First topic message reminder :

Seeming as we have such a short turnaround thought I'd stick up a thread

England have added Simon Kerrigan to the squad interestingly. I'd imagine he must be in serious contention, or else what's the point of adding another body?

This pitch retains life even now, though England hasn't bowled very well, a couple of good balls can do the damage. It will be difficult to defend your way out of trouble and then build a score, Pujara tried that and eventually a good ball came and got him. So as you are never quite in on this track, they have to play more shots and be positive when you are there.

Disgusting behavior from the crowd at the HQ as Ravindra Jadeja comes in.
Time for Jadeja to play an innings of substance.

Ajinkya Rahane has got to 20, he's the last hope for India. Moeen Ali is on, they should go after him.

Well those two wickets have changed things a lot. Not jagging around as it did before lunch , but the ball is still doing enough to make batting a whole different proposition from what it was at Trent Bridge !
I think there will be help for the Indian bowlers too ; so this game is nicely poised at present. These two and Binny have a job to do. Not forgetting Kumar the new batting star  Smile

No significant contribution from Jadeja, Anderson wasn't needed, Ali gets him LBW for 3.

Tea is getting closer, but they need to take the bowling on a bit here. Even Rahane, the man with a good technique, should get a good one sooner rather than later, so play your shots, like Binny just did there to get going.

Liam Plunkett has some minor injury concerns but he's likely to be back on the field for the last session.
So England in total control of the last session. The remaining overs with the old ball, India will have to last, and take the score pass 200 to at least have a half decent total. If they go pass 200, then they at least have a half chance in the game. If they can't go pass that score, then they will have to look up to the weather to save them on the first day itself.

Jadeja gone cheaply = perfect!

Superb session from England, further vindicating Cook's attacking choice at the toss. Bless, where the whining knee-jerkers now?

England need to wrap up the tail swiftly, and not make the same errors as they did in the First Test. Pitch it up and finish the innings today!

Not many would have choosen to bat on that wicket on the 1st morning of a Test match, just as well the Indian captain called wrong otherwise we would have been all out before Tea.

Binny a bit unlucky. Hawkeye says high , though to be honest it looked OK live.
Kumar is the man on a hot streak with the bat : wonder how he'll go on this surface ?

Ali doing a handy holding job here , allowing Cook to rotate his seamers.
With Plunkett apparently struggling with some problem , a welcome contribution.
Useful for the over rate , too.

Funny things are these doctored greentops.

Mediocre one dimensional bowler can look half decent...

Clubman James Anderson must wish he could bowl on these kinda pitches everyday.

As he lacks the talent on other pitches.

Stokes has been good today ; would like to see him pick up a couple now. Rahane has looked as good as any of India's batsmen today , so England still have work to do.

No sympathy for India at all.

The only way they will re consider quickly in regards to DRS is if they are on the losing end of it.

India's batting line looks a bit muddled up IMO

Rahane should be at #4 and Kohli at #5.

Kumar should probably be batting at #7

And Dhawan lacks the technique to playing in England.

Someone like Rohit should take his place.

And Ashwin should replace Jadeja.

at the start of the day i thought 300 would be a fighting total.
then I saw we were at risk of a 170 crash out so i thought we get what we get.

now there has been a recovery , Rahane's runs come in MOSt difficult conditions and every 10 runs are a bonus.
200+ may be a fighting total also and I think we have the bowling but who know maan...pitch might ease, an English batsmn or 2 might get stuck in or a lower order might blast some quick runs.....300 would be more comfortable

As soon as the play began, I was bit worried looking at the grass on the field. The results were clear from the very first ball where there was a swing of about 8-10 cm with a good carry. It never seems like a Lord's pitch. Remember the test match against SL. Pitch was far different from that test match. Lord's mostly offer a good first inning total, but what we are watching is quite different.

I don't know much about the truth of Jadeja-Anderson incident but ya its visible who got affected from that mentally.

Looking at Rahane, I always have a feel of Dravid batting when ever I see this lad and I feel Indian top order should take a lesson from Bhuvi. He is playing brilliantly.

we won't find out what the pitch is like unles we see Eng bat even if it is in slightly eased conditions.

Rahane got a 97 on a seaming pitch in T2 in SA...when all were faling around him and he took apart Steyn trying to maximize with the tail.

we may be seeing a match winning inning this one from Rahane

Still they are on the front-seat. Lord's is improving from since morning. Pitch seems to be turning good for batting now. I think they are gonna pile on runs on the board in their first innings.
It will also depend on Indian bowlers but India have recovered from what is called to be situation of death.

One of the very good innings you would see in seaming conditions....as I said before...this lad is the starightest and most correct batsmen in difficult seaming conditions...and surprisingly quite ordinary on Patta pitches.

Inning reminiscent in quality and value to Vengsarkars 120 odd at Headingly in 1986

Rahane has scored last 23 runs in 13 balls of Anderson. That was a nice shot, pushed through covers. After all it is a fantastic century for this extremely talented man.

Again I have no idea why these commentators are so pessimistic- if we can get them all out in a day- job done- They do not have this kind of attack to threaten us on this wicket. Forget the runs, if there is no bad weather there will be a result and i back england to get 20- not India

It has been a disappointing day from England. Poor in the 1st session, good in the 2nd, lost the plot a little in the 3rd. From 145-7 there was no way India should be where they are now. They should be hanging on for dear life in the game, not firmly in it.
