Sky Have 'Binned' Glen McCrory
Glen posted the following tweet earlier today which has since been removed as far as I can see:
"I don't work for sky mate they have binned me! Adam smith"
Not sure of the exact status of things but there is a lot of chat about this on the boards.
There's a bit of speculation around Glen possibly being a bit too fond of the gargle but there's nothing official being said.
Is the time right for Sky to introduce new blood into the Sky pundit team?
Anybody think Glen was hard done by if this is true?

He always looked like he liked a tipple. Nothing against him personally but I don't recall him ever adding anything of note to the discussion. Time for fresh blood.
Do you think there's room in the cab for Jim watt and nick halling?

I noticed McCrory was becoming a bit more outspoken in recent times. For most of his 25 years with Sky he toed the party line. Looking back to last Saturday when Joe Gallagher was saying Callum Smith did not need a Rocky Fielding fight and that they were developing towards a world title Glen came in with a cutting remark "World title! You don't even know if you have the best fighter in Liverpool." Maybe he knew he was going but he has certainly changed his tune in recent times.
Off to BoxNation maybe?

Halling is the worst commentator is recent history. Makes me cringe every time I watch a Sky show. Its pathetic at times with some of the remarks he makes.
He needs to go.

Pure speculation but some are saying he was taking other substances to straighten himself out when he had one too many on air.
There's a few videos going around showing him well oiled.

Re: Sky Have 'Binned' Glen McCrory
Yep I also noticed McCory getting more outspoken since Froch Groves II, maybe he knew it was coming at the end of the season. He's always been a perineal fence sitter until recently. If Sky are having a clear out they'd do well to get rid of Watt. His cliches, over excited and often biased commentary and frankly ridiculous scorecards have had their day.
I actually thought Froch has been quite insightful on the times I've seen him punditting on Sky, maybe Eddie can pull a few strings and fiddle with a few knobs to get his chum a little retirement post. Malignaagi is excellent but unless he fancied swapping NYC for London it's not gonna happen.

That's just what I look like at the minute.
Hopefully Jamie Moore will get more exposure now. He is excellent. Paul Smith is very good as well.
I was a little disappointed with Paulie M in the build up to Froch v Groves II. He didn't quite live up to his high standards, for me.

Go to 3.20 for Glen. Joe Calzaghe doesn't look much better earlier in the video.

I heard Calzaghe's plan was to ply Froch with champagne, discover his weaknesses and then announce his comeback ala Leonard Hagler, daft ape drank all the booze himself though!

It's easier for the staff team to get rid of stupid comments rather than deal with the aftermath, I'm sure you don't see it like that.

No it didnt. To delete that is pathetic. Seriously pathetic. Of course because TRUSSMAN asked you to though, it had to be removed.
On this thread alone there are several worse comments regarding McCrory that you left up.

Re: Sky Have 'Binned' Glen McCrory
Anyhow, with regard to the original thread whatever the reasons for binning Glen can’t say I will mourn his departure. Does not really bring a lot to the table and think these things need freshening up every so often and think that time is due now with Sky. As others have said Halling would be missed by nobody and whilst I am nowhere near as anti Watt as others he has perhaps outstayed his welcome.
Not sure how feasible it is but doing whatever it takes to get Ian Darke back would be a good place to start and apart from the likes of Moore who has already been mentioned Darren Barker always came across well when he was on previously. He would be a decent addition to the team.

Yes, saying someone seemed drunk is a matter of personal opinion, saying someone is a well known drunk is stating it as fact. Not really a difficult distinction to grasp.

Yes, stating a fact. They all joke about McCrorys drinking on Sky FFS. He jokes about it himself.

I'll miss Glenn...his ever expanding face and Minnie Driver's face were the reasons I finally decided to buy a widescreen TV.
Maybe they could do what "Have I Got News For You" did after Angus Deyton was
Personally I'd like to see Burt Kwouk, the woman who did the "Shake 'n' Vac" ads and the American actor Delroy Lindo

Re: Sky Have 'Binned' Glen McCrory
Well McCrory always seemed a slightly weak link for me in the Sky studio. Less inisghtful than the guys around him and even those who didn't offer much in that way at least had some charisma and a telegenic style about them, which McCrory's never really had either. Plus, as Tina likes to get irate about, he picked Grant to beat Lewis based purely on watching Grant running through an empty swimming pool. Unforgivable.
Not sure why, but Glenn's always seemed like a bit of an outsider in the Sky circle, for me. Outside the clique and not having any chemistry like the others have between them. Somehow got the impression that he never enjoyed the gig as much as the others, but then again it could just be me. I'd have much rather seen Halling go, of course.

Re: Sky Have 'Binned' Glen McCrory
Halling was in absolutely brutal form on Saturday. The Mexican who was fight Stephen Smith had lost 8 of his last 10 fights and Halling actually breathed his name in the same sentence as Barrera and Marquez. I had to ring my da to get him over to help me pick my jaw off the floor. Apparantly all Mexicans are warriors according to Halling. Never mind the fact that Smith just didn't perform well and he still won almost every round

You know the rules Reborn, all mexicans are warriors, all Africans are teak tough, all Europeans are upright stylists. Why do any research when there are cut out and keep cliches to see you through.

I'll miss Glen randomly shoehorning in the fact he used to spar with Mike Tyson. Maybe there's a retirement home for ex boxing folk and all you'll have is Glenn telling us his sparring tales whilst occasionally screaming at Colin Hart to shut the **** up about how he picked Ali to beat Foreman

In a similar way to me liking Micahel Owen on BT Sport I quite enjoy Glenn being on Sky. He has definitely been more outspoken recently and I've enjoyed that, especially when all we get is Gallagher love for 99% of the time.

On a side note, any news on halling getting sacked yet? I think he is garbage at his job.

Re: Sky Have 'Binned' Glen McCrory
I don't find Jim Watt as annoying as some on here. His voice creates a big fight feel during the match. Whilst I agree that he recycles tired old cliches I think he can be insightful too. Would much rather have Adam Smith as the play by play guy, with Watt and Malignaggi/Alex Arthur alongside too.
I like Glenn, sad to see him go. I admired how he told Froch to his face that he thought Groves would win, shows he is not afriad to go against the party line. For replacements there are a lot of good options and would be happy with Arthur, Smith, Moore, even David Haye! Though think Paul Smith is a natural on the tv.

I put Adam Smith in the same bracket as Jeremy VIne, Jeremy Kyle, Adrian Durham and Louis Walsh as irritating b@stards who deserve a much more lingering and painful death than anything I'm currently imagining/hoping they have.theanimal316 wrote:I don't find Jim Watt as annoying as some on here.
