For 8m euros it's a steal for a player that is proven. Hardly breaking the bank, still allows Utd to bring in others and gives them a set of balls in midfield.

And with him being that price it won't impact on a move for Vidal as well.

Yeh like I said, if we can't get vidal then definitely go for De Jong. Would provide a nice balance in midfield with herrera, then go for strootman as the long term replacement in january hopefully.

De Jong is a very decent player, not world class but very good and will do something United need. Actually would be a yes from me in the situation. Even buying Strootman in Jan you'd probably not expect the lad to play more than 70% of the games as he works back. Carrick out for a long time too.

Tbf we can't win. Don't spend money and people saying we're it doing on the cheap, now we actually make a signing that is a statement of intent which is now a bad move! Every transfer is a risk.

And as for the World Cup thing, Nasri didn't get in the France squad

The Nasri decision wasn't because of lack of ability, that was more for team togetherness & team spirit. Brown missing chances, as his manager eluded too, shows it was a decision regarding ability, not his attitude, like Nasri. Can't compare.

Morata appears to be joining Juventus & is having a medical. Also, hearing Shaqiri has agreed to join Roma but hasn't been confirmed.

agree ent. for me, this is about a new era at united & bringing back the excitement to OT. They've endured the debable of moyes & his shambolic signing of Fellaini, which failed to address the mdifield issue, why resort to the calibre of de jong? agree, he can do a job, but what kind of message does that send out? United made a big mistake 12 months ago & now need to start showing some balls, make big decisions & rebuilding some reputation & gaining the respect & fear that United side's of old have had. this is the next phase & the most important rebuild under LVG. So far, united have not bought any star players, it's about time to exert some authority in the market & send out the right message & bring in a player of vidal's ability & standing in the game. you bring him in & the footballing world takes notice, you bring de jong in & the world goes  picard. Simple as. Why are United looking at short term options, when financially they have no restraints to purchase top players immediately, does not make sense.

I'm not sure why people are now backtracking & saying De Jong would be a good signing, irrespective of being only a short term option, after slating him pre-wc & saying how limited he is. He's a brutal player & someone not worthy of the United shirt. That's what United fans were saying all last season, these players like Cleverley or Young are not worthy, so why bring in more? Herrera & Shaw have been a step but the leap back into the big time & where United belong is with players of the mould of Vidal & Hummels. Make it happen.

With four weeks to go until the start of the season, who does everyone think has done the best and worst business so far.

Best I'd say is Chelsea. Mainly for getting £50 million for David Luiz, and they've also bought well. Fabregas is an upgrade on Lampard, Costa will be more effective than Ba.

Worst is Villa. Senderos, Richardson and Joe Cole would have been mouthwatering signings eight years ago. Not so much now.

Look, de Jong is a poor man's Davids, but he's still a good signing, especially at that price. Not enough piano movers in football, probably because of the way the refs handle the games, but the guy's gonna add steel, and if nothing else causes players to second guess their decisions to go on runs through midfield.

I'd like De Jong in, but not at the expense of a World Class midfielder but as well as one. All very well and good to get in a quality first eleven but we all know strength in depth is what's required over the season and De Jong for the price muted would be an excellent option to have when required. Too long have Utd not had a bite in midfield, now we possibly look to a season with Herrera (who's certainly not afraid of getting stuck in based on his tackle and cards ratio last season), De Jong and hopefully Vidal. That's a trio that could slog it out with anyone.

I agree with Hero. You don't buy De Jong as your world class midfielder, but he is a very good player to supplement one and if what he wants is a player he trusts, a player with bite and a holding midfielder then De Jong at £8m is a good deal.

My fave I've seen on Twitter in regards to this 'it can take years to sell a house'.
That would be awesome, LVG ringing up Vidal;

'So Arturo, Juve have agreed the sale, we've got the number 7 shirt all ready to be printed, what's the hang up?'
'Yeah sorry on this, unable to relocate at present as the house is in negative equity, and the survey has come back mentioning it needs pinning, maybe next year hey?'

Happy with Remy for £8 million, especially considering Borini was sold for £14 million. Remy is similar in ways to Sturridge which will allow the style of the play to stay consistent if Sturridge struggles with injuries again this year.

Weirdly I think a lot of clubs this summer in the PL are doing good business, think Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool have all done some good early business. A lot of decent business by some of the other clubs as well.

Chelsea have done the best business, but they're the ones I expect might not do much more. Man City look like fixing a couple problems and adding a bit of quality in the middle, but they had the least to do. A centre back, likely Mangala or Benatia, must be close. Liverpool ok but hard to know what you need to do when you lose someone irreplaceable. Arsenal's is pretty good too, and United.

Newcastle and ourselves will be pretty happy so far. Hull will be too.

I find Burnley's business a bit uninspiring, even for them. Tottenham have signed no one, the only club that's true of in the Prem

Reports out of Paris state PSG have had to withdraw offer for Angel Di Maria, as they can't afford to breach FFP and the subsequent ban from champions league.

The only way they can sign Di Maria would be if they sold Cavani and Lucas/Pastore. The latter two they don't want to sell.

Selling Cavani would only balance up the transfer of David Luiz.

I still cannot believe Borini was being quoted at £14million. Liverpool were going to make a profit on a player that has had zero good games in a Liverpool shirt.

Sunderland have got of jail there.....

Surely we can't be keeping both Cech and Courtois? Neither of them will be happy sat on the bench.

Done in the sense of bringing in new players. If we let Lukaku go we only have Costa, Torres and Bamford. So Lukaku must be staying if we're done.

you don't believe Mourinho when he says he is done. with 6/7 weeks of the transfer market left I am sure he will buy someone else.

Looks like we're on the verge of signing somebody judging by the ghosts comments but who he didn't allude to, also made it very clear we have no fixed budget, money will be made available for whoever.
