PF4EC wrote:I dont understand why rodgers would go for lovren instead of hummels and lallana instead of kroos? they can offer champions league football now. They might not have prem experience but they are world cup winners and the cheaper options IF the majority of press reports are to be believed. If borini goes for £14mill that is one heck of a bit of business though!
Lallana and Kroos were two totally different situations. Lallana had 4 years left on his contract, and a hefty sell on clause which inflated his price. Also Kroos is reportedly earning £200,000 a week. I'd be surprised if Lallana's getting paid half of that. Over the time of their contract Real Madrid will spend considerably more money on Kroos, then Liverpool will on Lallana.

Personally I think Oscar is a quality player who's only failing will be being managed by Mourinho who will stifle his attacking instincts.

ive heard plenty have the same opinion HH, for me though he's not done it enough to justify all the praise he gets. oscar was there before mourinho and didn't exactly set the world alight (bar one champions league game)

True, but the point PF4EC was making was that Kroos was cheaper, and that's not remotely true. Plus he only had eyes on joining Real so it's a moot point.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
not necessarily true thats he's more expensive, real normally rake it in shirt sales for any star because of their huge global brand, while you may not attribute this solely down to kroos he will sell a fair few im sure after the world cup. cant imagine lallana selling many shirts in asia

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I'm not so sure on that one C and R, I can't imagine the Germans would be too bothered buying a Real shirt while the Spanish and Asians would favour the bigger named Ronaldo and Rodriguez. Lallana as an English player could well sell a few in this country but neither I imagine will make somebody who wasn't going to buy a shirt go out and buy one.

I agree with HH. Real Madrid shirts with Ronaldo name apparently accounted for 1 million of the 1.4 million sold last year, but he's far more marketable than Kroos. Madrid bought Kroos because he's a bloody good player, not for his marketability.

Ilan means Brazilians can work. GOL
I love Oscar, not surprised that Mourinho thinks Willian and Oscar were affected in the season, second half mainly, by the looming World Cup. Seems to think they were only half with the side.

The Mirror are reporting Spurs have offered £20 million for Antoine Griezmann. Would be a fantastic buy if it came off.

i know he wont be the main attraction but he will sell a few, wouldnt be suprised if adidas threw some money in aswell, started doing it more often these days liking there big high profile adidas sponsored players playing for a adidas teams. there was a lot of rumours with the ronaldo back to united was being pushed by nike
kroos isnt anywhere near a ronaldo in terms of marketability i know that, but he is a lot more than lallana and that was my main point. that real are not just getting the better footballer

Germany and Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus has rejected a move to Liverpool.
He's agreed a pre-contract deal with Bayern Munich to join them in 2015 for his £28m buy out figure.

Wasn't really a fan of his during the WC. Came across as a bit of a headless chicken at times. I think United can do better.
Someone earlier had mentioned Shaqiri. That would be a quality signing for United imo.
And Liverpool stood no chance of getting Reus. Shame to see he's going to Bayern though. The German fans are going to lose interest in the BL if Bayern keep destroying their competition.

Unfortunately that isn't possible, you can only sign a pre contract agreement in the final six months of your contract.

But there's an agreement with the player and both clubs.
Dortmund will not look to flog him to another club.

Well Bayern have just signed Felix Gotze, younger brother of Mario, from Dortmund as well.Hammersmith harrier wrote:I highly doubt Dortmund would agree to anything of the sort, they would far rather he went abroad than to Bayern.
And I doubt that Dortmund would want Reus to leave Germany. Reus to Bayern makes their national squad even stronger.

Dortmund are majorly peeved at Bayern nowadays for Gotze and Lewandowski, their once friendly rivalry is now quite a hostile one.
Reus only in January stated 'I wish good luck to Lewa & Gotze but Bayern will never have me. Money is not everything'.

If the James Rodriguez transfer goes through...
it means that he, Ronaldo and Bale will have cost Real Madrid around €265M: more than what Ajax have spent on transfers (€232M) since their founding in 1900.

Next year Reus has a £28m buy out.
Dortmund can't block the move even if they wanted to.
Similar to the Gotze move when Bayern activated his buy out clause.

Therefore the more money they distribute to thr clubs.
Dortmund need all the money they can get to compete with the free spending Bayern.

That statistic is ridiculous, I know Ajax have their fantastic youth system but for Real Madrid to match the money spent by one of the biggest football clubs in the world over 114 years on just three players is almost unbelievable.

Its kinda irrelevant. For the vast majority of those 114 years, Ajax will have spent nothing on acquiring players. Then when you account for market inflation it makes sense.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
James Rodriguez transfer confirmed for £63 million. Should start a dominoe effect now, Isco or Di Maria will have to go you would have thought. Probably Di Maria because he'd command the higher transfer fee, is older, has likely peaked and there is interest.
That is a fantastic side and I think probably better balanced than Barcelona's front line.
Think that Barcelona front three will be getting in each other's away a bit and I think Suarez and Neymar will struggle having to bow down to Messi as king.
Benzema
Ronaldo - Rodriguez - Bale
Modric - Kroos
Marcelo - Ramos - Varane - Carvajal
Navas

Suarez
Neymar - - - - - Messi
Ratikic - Iniesta
Busquets
Alba - Pique - Mascherano - Alves
Ter Stegen

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Madrid's front 6 don't really offer much in terms of defense so any side willing to counter will have great success against that defense (provided they haven't conceded 10 by that time). As for Barca, that front 3 will never work. Messi and Neymar don't really work together so how can the addition of Suarez be beneficial?

Barcelona have stated that they will be playing Messi behind Suarez and Neymar.
Neymar----------Suarez
---------------Messi
And Benzema is pretty much the weak link in the Real Madrid attack.
If they get Falcao than their attack will be unstoppable.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I think Suarez is the perfect player for Messi. Both those teams have keepers who havent played with that demand for success, both teams havent really done anything in defence.
I'd hope Barca play Masch in midfield and go buy some defenders. But I think they'll take a year to come back to the top properly so Madrid have the edge. Its all a bit of a new era at Barca and they need to get used to it.

I'm so happy about the Rodriguez signing, but at the same time, it seems pretty clear that we probably aren't going to win a coin toss... Still, we have La Decima, and even if we most likely get carved to pieces against teams that can defend, it's gonna be a riot, goals gol, golazos
