Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Mata will definitely be in our first 11 Ent, he'll play the Sneijder role with Rooney and RVP up top, you're far too pessimistic.
Until the transfer window has closed we have no real idea what the team will be, personally think we'll set up 4-4-3 long term. LVG is experimenting a bit in preseason I feel.

Could well be but if he goes 352 I think that is what will happen long term, not what I want to happen.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
If he's playing 3412 then Rooney's play will make that a 3421 at times too. I don't think they'll get overpowered in midfield because they'll have players moving well for the ball and Rooney naturally dipping in to add strength. Mata and Rooney are a pair that should work very well together in that regard.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
According to reports in Italy Juventus have already started looking for Vidals replacement after United tabled a £45m offer, crazy money
In contrasting reports he's been pictured arriving at training this mornimg back from his holiday to undergo his preseason fitness tests and a story saying he'll not be going anywhere
I expect this transfer should reach some sort of conclusion this week

Spot on Dolph, with the attacking talent we have the 3-5-2 formation will be more fluid and interchangeable, the Dutch had a lot of serviceable players in the side.

Didn't sound like Toure had a good reason for "disliking" his employers.
Just another footballing bell end
on another note. 16m for an embryo like Chambers? Christ. Another case of being English inflating the price. He'd be about £3m from anywhere else.

It's 8m + Add Ons. 3m for when he gets his 1st England cap, 3m after 50 appearances, 2m if wins a trophy
Essentially 14m

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
LVG will wait until January for Strootman, needs to prove his fitness, so it's all pointless these figures of £79m. If a deal is ever done, will be significantly cheaper.
Chambers could be a right back for 10 years, just like Shaw. It's not even £16m up front either. Debuchy is a short term option & can't defend, I could see Chambers showing his class straight away, forcing his way into the starting XI & then Debuchy will start pining to be with Cabaye again.

Not in a million years TSJ, otherwise you'd be able to include the trophy's they get for the friendly tournaments.

Interesting that if Rodgers spends that kind of money he's pi$$ing it down the drain whereas Wenger doesn't get anywhere near the same level of criticism.super_realist wrote:Didn't sound like Toure had a good reason for "disliking" his employers.

Tony Watt in Belgium for talks with Standard Liege, good to see another young Scot move abroad after Gaulds move to Sporting Lisbon. Now he will get first team football and the chance to start in the Champions League.

I'm very surprised at that but think it will be a good move. I really hope more young players from the home nations go abroad. I think one of the reasons why our national teams lag behind is that all players play in one league and the only time they experience a different style of football is for their international team (or European club football for a select few).

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Our hoofball tactics are just horrible and so outdated, you need to have some technical ability and they won't learn that in the reserves of a PL team. So agreed it's a good move, it also exposes them to other countries who scout Belgium and Portugal which opens up moves to Spain,Germany and Italy if they do well. Robertson off to Hull is a decent move, just hope he gets so game time, think it's a season too early.

Yea if anything the guys they have brought in are an improvement on what they had, Griezmann is a great signing and a real show of intent. Athletico always seem to do very well with the money at their disposal.

Indeed. Mandzukic, Siqueira and Greizemann, acted decisively with the keeper situation too, show a complete lack of panic and good business.
And I think they are still in profit this window

Southampton only have Boruc, Wanyama and Ramirez of their first team left haven't they?
Not sure who mentioned it but if their players were that good they would have finished higher than 9th, got a feeling the top teams are going to regret their buys.

Its easy saying they are replaceable, theyve got to find the players yet. And all of them have to work individually, and they've all got to gel. With a new manager and a club that feels its ambition draining.

It is like they're playing Football Manager, great amount of profit but big risk on the new team they make with the cash gelling quickly.

Lambert - agreed (pretty average, old & easily replaceable. Expect him to be found out under the demands of playing for Liverpool)
Shaw - agreed (ridiculous fee for the lad, you can't reject that fee)
Chambers - reject (what is it, £12m + add ons?) Not sure that's a great deal. Keep him on for another year, see him improve & build his reputation further)
Lovren - agreed (six months he was very good but then went AWOL. He's not the class centre back some pundits got carried away with & making £10m on him in one year is very good business.
Schneiderlin - agree (if they get anywhere near £27m for him, that is RIDICULOUS......SNAP HAND OFF)
Rodriguez - reject (good player, under-rated)
Lallana - agree (pretty footballer but at £25m you have to accept that. In my opinion, not good enough for a top, top club. Tadic is cheaper, arguably better & can score more goals)
I agreed to five, think Hammersmith said, if they can only manage eighth in the league says something about how good they really are, in what was a poor season for United etc. Agree with DZ, replacements can be found, as Tadic/Pelle have shown but a mass overhaul might blow up & end up like Spurs but worse.
Replacements can be found.Tasic is probably superior to Lallana & has an eye for goals. In terms of creativity, probably equal with Lallana. Pelle has been signed too & should do a job.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I don't think the issue is Southampton selling them but more the teams buying them, judging by their league position they aren't top four standard players. Also have to factor in the team ethic, the majority had been playing together for years through the division, individually I don't think any of them are that good.

Well, I'd have taken a round picture on things. Individually the deals look great, but what price their reputation, what price to build a whole new team etc etc
I'd certainly be looking at Chambers, Schneiderlin and Rodriguez and thinking "enough is enough". I'd at least had replacements lined up first.
They now have (exlcuding Schneidy and Rod):
Boruc
Clyne Fonte Hooiveld Yoshida
Wanyama Cork Davis
Ramirez Pelle Tadic
I'd imagine they had wanted to upgrade in centre back even before Lovren went so lets say they need at least a left back, a spare right back, 2 centre backs, two central midfielders, a playmaker, a striker and a winger or two.
Say they need 8 and they cover the other gaps. 8 players. Or they can keep Ramirez and Osvaldo, although I don't see both staying. My shopping list would include:
Vlaar, Zaha, Borini, Holtby, Delph, Fer, Clasie. Probably more from abroad and the Keoman knows, but I dont have the knowledge or effort
Whilst I understand the fees themselves are a lot of money, you wouldnt say the same if Barca came in at the end of July and tried to buy Walcott, Ramsey, Koscielny, Gibbs, Wilshere, Santi, Ozil and Giroud.

Juventus had earlier they did not want to lose the midfielder, but would entertain offers (and fairly big omes) if the player himself asked for a transfer

Anderson no surprise.
Kagawa is one of the biggest myths in football.
Nani a little disappointed in, but van gaal wants players with brains and he doesn't have one.
Fellaini well he has to go down as one of our worst ever signings and everyone knew he was crap. 12 million loss on him, staggering.
Leaves squad very light on numbers if they all go so must be going to bring some people in.

All the papers and Sky think we'll have Jenkinson. I'm not a huge fan but at the same time I'm happy; he's only getting in the team if he outperforms one of our most solid performers in the past two years in Demel, and as its a loan we can arrange a fee next summer if its worked or dump him if not. Puts us in pole position to sign someone who could be our right back for the next 8 years.
