Think LVG sees him as surplus to requirements, in one of his first interviews when he arrived in the US he was complaining about the number of players we had for that position. Would imagine he sees Mata behind Rooney and RVP and then two of Herrera, carrick, cleverley, fletcher in centre mid behind

Also sounds like Arsenal have interest in Douglas Costa, whilst Milan are interested in Joel Campbell.

Shame, hes been talking about how hes one of the squads best passers. Think he could be a great player in this league if used right, but might be best to get gone before he wastes too much of his career.

Douglas Costa is one of those that looked amazing at an early age but hasn't quite lived up to it so far, taking the cash at Shaktar didn't help him, a move could rejuvenate him certainly.

Matt Law in the Telegraph's saying Mourinho wants rid of Torres, but cannot find a buyer. Looks like Chelsea will need to get rid of one of their foreign contingent as they have 18, so one would miss out on being registered for the Premier League.

Any move for Costa could be extremely messy. He's represented by Kia Joorabchian, and all of his clients at Shaktar are refusing to return to Ukraine because of the unrest there. Shaktar's owner thinks Joorabchian using this to engineer moves.

I'm referring of course to the 2009 WC when he was coming through with Ganso and Texeira.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I don't understand people saying that because Southampton only finished ninth that the players aren't good enough for the top four. Are people not aware that the bigger clubs in England signing from mid-table and even relegation battlers is basically entirely common.
Manchester United last decade signed the likes of Carrick and Berbatov from Tottenham when they were finishing in a similar position. West Ham had basically all their best players taken from them, despite struggling and then being relegated, by bigger clubs. (Ferdinand, J. Cole, G. Johnson, Carrick etc.) Also see Aston Villa when they lost Barry, Milner, Downing and Young to bigger clubs despite not finishing ahead of those clubs. Arguably even Arsenal losing so many players to Manchester City could be a similar idea.
It's a fairly sound business plan, even if it costs the big clubs more money. Smaller clubs either develop players or buy them cheap from Europe or in the lower leagues and take the risk, the big clubs then see that the players are good enough for the Premier League and sign them. This reduces the risk of buying unproven players or throwing youngsters into their squad early.
While it's odd to see so many players leave one mid-table club to bigger clubs all at once, it doesn't mean that those players can't be better than the ninth place finish. Most of the players will improve by being surrounded by better players thus improving them and the team.

There's taking the pick of the lower placed clubs players and there is signing all of them.

Spot on Ent, if they were all the cream they would have done better, personally think Spurs have better midfielders than Schneiderlin as it is.

Yer Berba was only top scorer in the Prem. And Young has regressed since being at United.
And this is coming from a team that has just spent £30 mill and £100k a week on a prospect

Blackpool have signed Jacob Mellis, Tomasz Cywka and Peter Clarke. They just need a goalkeeper now and they'll actually have a team for the first game.

As I've said before, it's the price these players are being flogged at which is ridiculous.
Guys like Shaw, Lallana, Chambers, Lovern etc are good players. No one is questioning that. What we are questioning is why all these players who played for a mid table PL club are now considered the hottest talents in football and being valued at similar prices to Dortmund's and Athletico's stars after they came second in the Champions League.

Now reports of a battle between us and QPR over Valbuena. One QPR will win with astronomical wages, our problems with Alou Diarra and Valbuena's past friendship with that Kumquat Barton.

Surprised none of the top teams showed an interest in Valbuena. Quality player. Not the youngest but should still have a good 2-3 years in him.

A combination of factors:
English players are more expensive because of homegrown rules and the fact that it's generally considered a good thing to have English players, therefore they are more valuable than a foreign alternative.
Clubs selling to a club in the same league as them also increases the price as they are selling to a competitor.
The reason why the big clubs want to sign those players rather than a cheaper, perhaps better alternative is because these players have already proven they can perform in the Premier League. It removes quite a big risk when spending large sums when a player has already shown they are capable of playing well in the Premier League. While say Mandzukic etc. may seem like a better player, there is a chance that they will fail to acclimatise to the English game and English culture outside of football.

Forster, Vlaar, Van Dijk, Jetro Willems to replace Shaw, Redmond, Tadic & Pelle. Say if they got all them, who they are linked with, how would you rate those replacements? Apparently Schneiderlin/Rodriguez going nowhere now.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I feel for Southampton as they have become a victim of there own success and model.
If they wernt relegated a few years ago, who knows what would have happened with the likes of Walcott, Bale, Oxlade etc. They have got a quality youth system there and its probably kept them afloat during there absence from the Prem. They are actually now reaping more financial benefits now they are back in the Prem with there youth players and hopefully Koeman can bring some quality in and keep them competitive.

I enjoy how the Metro report crap They stole this from Kike Marin's twitter
El #Arsenal estaba muy interesado en Reus y creo que podría haber pagado los €35 millones de su cláusula, pero su lesión lo paró todo.
http://metro.co.uk/2014/07/30/marco-reus-was-set-for-arsenal-transfer-before-suffering-ankle-injury-in-june-4815087/
I think that is a touch optimistic somehow lets face injured players is Arsene's forte, Plus we have Shad now as our fitness coach so hopefully will get better.

If Southampton get an offer of anywhere near £25m for Schneiderlin, they should be chauffeuring him to the buyer ASAP. He's nothing special at all in my opinion, just a solid midfielder. Of all the deals they've agreed too, this one should be top of the list, in terms of being a 'right decision'.

I'm hearing £25m or £28.5m. Either way I'm so pleased. Its about time we coughed up the money to take the next step. Apparently Henen is already training with us too and will be announced soon.

That keeps Everton in the mix. Although he had a poor WC, he's proven to be a 15+ goals man every season in the EPL. I still don't see where Everton have made the jump into that Top 4. They were playing out of their skins last year, still failed & Lukaku was already there. Besic & an inexperienced Henen won't make much impact & they've lost the pace of Deulofeu.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
At 21 I think Lukaku still has the potential to move on to the next level. Not expecting massive things from Besic but with him, McCarthy, Gibson and Barry in the CM spots that really gives us some options. Henen I would expect to be able to fill the void of Deulefeu, yes he showed glimpses but his end product was far from complete.
More signings needed to push on I think but with Coleman, Baines and Barkley all tied down to long deals I'm pretty happy at the moment.

Besic is definitely one for the future. The obvious Barry replacement, and him and McCarthy could be a partnership for the nest 8 yearsor so. Good succession planning from Everton. Still think they need another CB, unless they plan on using Besic there as cover too?

If we use Besic as cover as well then we have Jagielka, Distin, Stones, Alcaraz, Duffy and Besic. I'd say while thats not setting the world alight its plenty of cover.
