So far today I've seen Liverpool linked with Pogba, Vidal, Balotelli, Falcao and Benzema! Got to laugh at the silly season.

Nobody is willing to take on Torres' wages, he'll see out that contract. Can't blame Demba going for the £80k a week in Turkey over joining Everton. He's setting himself up & his family long term, before retirement.
Vidal comments - ''I have won the Serie A title three times and I respect my team-mates. I don't feel I have completed a cycle at Juventus. Perhaps I will remain at Juventus all my life''.

That is within quotes where he says he knows there is interest and will decide when he's home. So, basically playing both sides of the coin so no one can hate him

Indeed there is a lot of smoke around Vidal.
Conte leaving will have thrown a spanner in the works I guess - will have to wait and see what happens with him.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
The other day he was saying that if the United deal falls through then he'll remain calm because he's already at a great club. Much like the comments of the club president mean little, basically said they don't want to sell but the player ultimately decides his future, so in the worst case scenario the fans are slightly appeased.
One of those sagas that could drag on for weeks; first it was the world cup, then Conte leaves, now we're on our pre season tour, can't see it being resolved until early to mid august now.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Interesting. He name dropped Real today too, which I really cant see as an option. Big money contract from Juve and a bit of name drops to scare them?
So Drogba's last kick of a ball at Chelsea won't be that of legend. Shame.

If there's even the slightest chance that Shaqiri's up for grabs, Utd are missing out if they don't move for him. Same with every other club bar Chelsea.

In fairness I don't know if those quotes are translations or if they're not how good his English is, I hate and love the Summer transfer window in equal measure.

Not for me Juan, has a bit of the Nani about him, got all the talent in the world but doesn't have the brain to go with it, I think he'll end up at a second tier team like Liverpool or Tottenham.

He's gonna be a player/coach, probably could mentor Costa if he starts off slow. His wife and kids still live in Cobham.

I think he's better than that. He's still a bit rough around the edges but with the right manager that could change.

Atletico were a team without any outstanding invididuals - they were a group of good team who formed an excellent team. Those that move might be in danger of being found out. I don't know anything about Luis but I'm not a Costa fan.

Did you miss all their Champions league games?
He's pretty solid, got a terrible injury when he moved to Athletico a few years back which put back his national team aspirations for a few years but he is good at the back and makes some nice runs whilst being a very good crosser. Still a shame to see another team run by a sugar daddy rob a team in the midst of great success just like Porto,Dortmund,Monaco, PSV etc have been in the past.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I think he's a decent signing, experienced & good in the tackle. His issue will still be Eden Hazard's inability to track back (even in the WC he didn't bother) & building a good understanding with him, if they don't, Felipe will be exposed. As for Costa, I would predict he'll be receiving a red card before his first EPL goal.

Let's not feel sorry for Atletico now Monty, a team that's grossly overspent over the years and is in crippling debt because of it.

No, in all seriousness this is a risk signing for WBA, usually quite reserved in the market & then this happens. Afonso Alves got 45 goals in 39 apps in Eredivisie & look what happened there. Stats in those inferior leagues mean nothing.

Well you think that's bad wait till you read this.
Sunderland have agreed a fee with Liverpool for Fabio Borini. A fee of, wait for it, 14 million pounds.
Oh. My. God.

Exciting for them, but a risk too. We've taken a punt on Valencia, though the difference is we've got everything in place if he doesnt work out and we do spend more than WBA generally. Then again, they did enough without a big money striker last year so its no panic

Did Borini get an English passport or something? Great bit of business for Liverpool, turning a profit on a player that was probably never getting into their first team.

Obertan must be nearing £12m nowadays in this market. DZ, forget Ben Arfa or Konoplyanka, Gabriel is the real deal.

23 year old ascending forward. Proved he can play well in the PL.
Possibly a bit overpriced but I'd rather have him than Ulloa or McCormack

But he's never really been the striker. I dunno, its a staggering amount but in this window I should be less and less shocked. That TV money might just be being thrown around more

Better the demon you know. You project Ulloa making a step up or Riviere in a new league. Plus he's 23

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Borini isn't prolific enough, only 7 in over 30 apps last season. Pantillimon, Jordi Gomez & Billy Jones are Poyet's signings, fans will hope he hasn't blown the kitty on this deal. Fully expect a release clause in that deal for relegation.
Must be the TV money because Ashley is spending & reports in France say we've had another bid for Grenier rejected.

Fourteen million for Borini?
I mean, yeah he's gorgeous, but money never buys you love and all that. Apparently, an earlier £10 million bid was rejected so Sunderland must be desperate!

De Jong??? Just wait for Strootman in six months or get Vidal, money is no obstacle.
Remy should suit Liverpool's counter, all about pace & can play up top or on the wings. Great option for £8m.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I am literally in sheer shock at that Borini transfer fee. For 14m, you're looking for at least 15 goals minimum in the season and I cannot for the life of me see Borini getting anywhere near that. Mental.
Utd need to get moving for cm's now with Carrick out for 3 months. Leaves us with cleverly, fletcher, fellaini. Not good at all.

Agree John, no need for De Jong. We should have signed Strootman last summer when he was available fairly cheap, was exactly the player we've needed for over a decade yet we signed fellaini instead! I think we'll go back for him in Jan when he's regained some fitness from his bad injury. Shame as I think we would have signed him this window. If he's ahead of schedule however, maybe Van Gaal will prefer to have him sooner rather than later. For now, we need to go all out for Vidal. Simple really.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
always rated de jong if im honest, was deighted when city got rid. of course he's a limited player but enables the better technical players to go do there thing while offering great protection. we havent been able to win the ball back for quite a while with no pace or tacklers in midfield.
as i say he's techniaclly limited, but he is much worse than anderson, clev and sadly even fletch now? i'd say he's better than all mentioned and at the prices being touted its a no risk move for me

would also add that the protection he offers played a fair part in a poor dutch defence/team getting to the final and third in the last two world cups. its not all about pretty football, need some steel sometimes, as barca have found out recently
