12pm - The 2014 Hungarian GP – Race
Lewis Hamilton is tied with Michael Schumacher as the most successful driver of all-time in Hungary having won the race on four occasions. The Mercedes man broke his duck for the Silver Arrows at the Hungaroing last year and another win in 2014 would make it three in a row at the venue.
Jenson Button is the only other current driver to have won the race on multiple occasions, whilst Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen have also both stood atop the podium in 2003 and 2005 respectively.
2013 result: 1. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes); 2. Kimi Raikkonen (Lotus); 3. Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull); 4. Mark Webber (Red Bull); 5. Fernando Alonso (Ferrari); 6. Romain Grosjean (Lotus); 7. Jenson Button (McLaren); 8. Felipe Massa (Ferrari); 9. Sergio Perez (McLaren); 10. Pastor Maldonado (Lotus).
Last five winners in Hungary: 2013: Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes); 2012: Lewis Hamilton (McLaren); 2011: Jenson Button (McLaren); 2010: Mark Webber (Red Bull); 2009: Lewis Hamilton (McLaren).
Pirelli will bring the white-marked medium and yellow-banded soft tyres to the Hungaroring, as was the case in 2013.
“The Hungaroring is a relatively slow-speed track, but the race is often run in hot conditions, increasing the work on the tyres. To provide a wide working range and increase opportunities for strategy, the medium and the soft tyres will be brought to Hungary.,” the Italian firm said.

Rosbergs breaks are fine- but no real pace in his merc. LH all over Vettel but cant get past. LH needs rosberg to get faster so he can get DRS without Vettel having it!

LH better not let him through- No point - he would never let a non team mate through. He may have to change his tyres himself.!

insanity to let him through

Mercedes look after Mercedes first, then the drivers. They aren't cruising 30 seconds ahead of the field so they need to maximise the points they take. Of course Hamilton is told to let his teammate on a different strategy past, thats just basic F1.

no its not basic F1 its insane F1
LH and MERC has a chance to win this race now- but wouldn't have had a shot before.
Protecting Merc is letting LH race as fast as he can. Rosberg hard no pace to catch him

Fernando Alonso once again shows why he's the best driver on the grid, by a country mile.
Ricciardo lucked out with the first SC by fair play to him for taking his chance.
Unlucky Rosberg dominating the race until the first SC.

What a fabulous race.
Great drives by Alonso and Hamilton and well done to Ricciardo winning his second race of the season. Rosberg finished fourth after starting from pole in the fastest car on the grid - not what I want to see from a world champion elect to be honest.
Plenty of action and big crashes and with ten laps to go it was still anybody's race.

Just shows how average Vettel is when he doesn't have the best car and is under pressure.
Not sure Ricciardo 'lucked out' when he made an extra stop.

I agree and of course now that Adrian Newey's magic designs are no longer there. Ricciardo is wiping the floor with Vettel this season.

Ricardo didnt luck out at all- yes perfect strategy which can be slightly lucky as no one truly knows how the tyres and weather will hold up.
You have to congratulate the top 3 imo. Great podium.
Rosberg's car may have been acting odd during the spell before his second pit- because he couldnt pass vern- that or he just isnt a natural overtaker!. LH passed him straight away. So something wasn't right there - that and too long a wait for his 3rd pitt cost him

Brilliant race, great drives from the podium boys. For all Hamiltons issues, Rosberg only leads by 11 points. That will hurt. Don't think the strategy argument is a big story, Toto Wolff blaming safety car for NR not winning. Rosberg had no pace all day & was nowhere near LH gearbox. Rosberg isn't a ruthless overtaker, unlike Hamilton. That move on Vergne was brilliant. Cracking stuff all round.

Well Toto ain't wrong he'd have been off into the distance but for the SC. What cost Rosberg wasn't his pace that was there as you can see by him reeling the front 3 in in 8 laps. Was having to go around again for the 1st SC which plonked him into the midfield. If he had kept infront their is was game over really so you can't say all the bad luck is going to Lewis now.
I suspect this will be roundly ignored or replied to in a stupid comment from someone with red tinted Hamilton glasses on. Hamilton fans don't like the truth without that 1st SC he'd have been a long way behind Nico.

Re: Hungarian GP Thread (Contains Quali/Race spoilers) - Sponsored by who cares
Wow - what a race! Variable conditions, crashes, safety cars...and plenty of overtaking. All boxes checked.
Another great drive by Ricciardo...don't know why I'm surprised anymore - this guy is clearly going to be a world champion in the not too distant future. Well-deserved win, though he obviously benefited from a race strategy that put him on relatively new soft tyres in the closing stages of the race, behind 2 drivers on much older tyres. Some credit to the team there as well.
Not so great for the usually faultless Vettel - very out of character to have that spin on the main straight...avoiding a repeat of Perez's crash by the narrowest of margins. Cost him a big chunk of points I feel.
Mixed race for Mercedes. Another fantastic recovery drive from Hamilton - must be pleased with 3rd after starting from the pit lane. Might have nicked 2nd from Alonso with better tyres. Rosberg's turn to have some bad luck with the first SC, losing the lead and having to play catch up. Good thinking from the team towards the end with the extra pit stop - he was catching Hamilton and Alonso hand over fist...just left it a few laps too late. Still 4th place will help maintain his championship lead.
Also glad Lewis ignored team orders to make way for Nico, given Rosberg wasn't even close enough to pass without Lewis slowing significantly. Could understand if he was obviously holding Nico up, but that wasn't the case. Hope there's no fall-out from that.
Great drive from Alonso too, helped by one of his famous quicksilver starts. Like Lewis he just didn't have the tyres at the end to fend off the charging Ricciardo. Still a 2nd place has to be seen almost as a win for Ferrari after their results of late. Decent drive by Kimi too for 6th after the blunder in quali left him starting 16th.
Have a feeling Williams will be disappointed. Massa only managed to finish 1 place above where he started and it looked like a strategy mistake cost Bottas several places, dropping from 3rd to finish 8th.
Another race to forget for McLaren with Button picking up a solitary point and Magnussen unable to get into the points. Horrible race for Lotus and Force India too, hit by crashes/retirements.
Worth noting both Marussia cars finished the race with Bianchi and Chilton 15 and 16th respectively.
