England v India 3rd Test, Ageas Bowl
First topic message reminder :
Lets get in the thread early enough.
India 1-0 up and now is the time to keep up the leel of intensity.
For England a few careers might depend on a quick turnaround in fortune here.
The pitch is reported to have some green on it and is expected to be in between the ugly pathetic track for the Trent Bridge and a lively track for the 2nd test at the HQ.
Not many reports on the England xi, but there are indications that Stuart Binny will be out for India, and by reports coming in now, its Rohit Sharma who might come in.

The only glimmer that keeps Indian hopes alive is England's achilles heel of late. England have frequently got themselves into positions of strength V Sri Lanka and India this summer and thrown away winning positions. If England go mental walkabouts again it could give India a reprieve. That is the only thing that will save them in my opinion.

As an aside, anyone who was listening to TMS knows that we have to credit Aggers with his 5th test wicket - Dhawan, caught Jordan, bowled curse of the commentator.
Aggers was just saying that he thought it would be Root's last over and that his bowling wasn't doing anything, and no sooner had the words left his lips than he was saying 'and he takes a wicket...'. Not sure that Dravid, as the co-commentator at that point particularly saw the funny side.

Don't think abusing people is cricket. If Anderson is to shoot off that pathetic stupid mouth of his in public, he'll be walking with his front teeth missing and his arms in a sling more often than not.hampo171 wrote:msp83 wrote:Anderson acting like a clown at the end, he's much better off when focusing on his bowling.......
He didn't do anything wrong, certainly nothing wrong with a little word to the batsmen but the umpire made a massive deal out of it. If it's getting to the point the players can't sledge then cricket has gone mad.
Yes a bit of friendly banter is fine, but not outright abuse. Anderson has in recent years, earned a reputation for being a big mouth idiot, its not without reason that Michael Clarke had to talk about the possible situation of his arm last winter.
And now when India are trying to prove a pattern of behavior, this was a bit of a self-goal as well.

ECB's coverup efforts in the Anderson case is blown? Seems after all there is a video available of the incident.

given the confidence with which Indians were going after Anderson..I always felt they had some solid evidence....much more than " my word against your word"
Oh my god......cover-up is against the spirit of the game....it's like picking up a catch from the ground and claiming it ( Raamdin).......
and under ICC laws invokes fine and ban...against ECB
and what about those who gave testimony in favor of Anderson.....was that Prior and Plunket ( or stokes)
ECB might claim.....we already dropped them for that reason
I fail to see how Anderson can avoid a 4 match ban now

You have no idea what was said, it is more likely that Anderson had a little chrip at the batsmen, considering replies showed it was no more than one or two words, and the umpire decided to get involved incase it got firey. Seen plenty of players do it in the past and we'll see plenty of players do it in the future, nothing wrong with it in my opinion and I'm sure the Indian bowlers have done it to the England batsmen in this series.

Well said Hampo.
I think England will polish this game off by tea; India tend to fold more than fight in a situation like this.

The ECB should release a statement questioning the accuracy and margin for error on this video replay

Rohit has a very ugly poke outside off and nicks through to Buttler. 1 down, 5 to go for England.
If people are seriously suggesting Rohit could open, they should check the way he played all 3 balls this morning. All a decent way outside off, and he poked away from his body at each one. Just a matter of time until he edged one.
Terrible batting when trying to save the game, and just the start England wanted.

so Rohit avoids selection dilemmas...ashwin will replace him and most likely Gambhir replaces Dhawan.

Or... they've lost wickets to England's 5th and 6th bowlers. Not much of a morale booster that is it?
Anyway Anderson has what he deserves.

4th bowler to have 100 wickets caught by the keeper.
Read, Ambrose, Prior, Bairstow, Buttler? Did Jimmy get a run while Jones was in the side?

Anderson exploiting some poor technique from the Indians gets Dhoni with almost a carbon copy of the Rohit dismissal. Anderson has bowled beautifully in this test.

I saw a lot of tweets saying this declaration was too soon but it felt to me like it had some real intent for the first time in a long time. You have to dangle the carrot to get a team to play.
Game on now.

He made his debut back in 2003, Stewart had the gloves. Not sure if he took a catch from him though.

Game on, Trebs? Surely India have this one in the bag? Jadeja we know scores 300s for fun and is capable of batting at well over a run a ball; Rahane England just can't seem to get out cheaply. etc.

How have India, supposedly good players of spin, lost twelve wickets to Moeen Ali? He's doing well, yes, but not that well!
As expected though, India not showing much fight.
And there's number eight!

Who's deciding this man of the match lark then?
Cook has been an exemplary captain in this Test, and has two half-centuries.
Ballance and Bell have scored centuries.
Anderson and Ali have got five-fors.
Hmmm....

Fine victory for England, the veteran players showed why they've earnt chances to regain form.
Fairly poor performance by India. Batted particularly poorly on a good pitch, fielding looked shabby.

Re: England v India 3rd Test, Ageas Bowl
MotM is a tough call. I think I'd just go with Jimmy, because his bowling in the first innings on a hot day and a reasonably good batting wicket (at that point) was exemplary. Moeen close with his bowling in both innings and honourable mentions for Bell and Ballance with outstanding batting contributions first up and then decent cameos in the 2nd knock.
Good test for Cook as well, with runs and most of his captaincy seeming to work well, but I think he's still a little short of prime form - second innings runs were more of a battle than they would have been if he was absolutely at his best.
