Getafe vs Montpellier
To me, this game looks like it'll bog down to somewhat of a stalemate. With Viva sitting deep and Azzy playing a patient game through a disrupted Pirlo, I can see them coming unstuck vs numbers, with Viva unable to mount much sustained pressure against Pirlo and Kehl.
Bordeaux vs PAOK
(Rosicky)
PAOK will struggle to trouble Bordeaux I feel, with the defense and Besic aggressively stepping up and in this game I feel they're good enough not to get burned and win it back quickly. PAOK are well organised but its hard to see the trio of Vidal, Rosicky and Marin not creating something when given enough chances.
Twente vs Genk
(Carvalho) (Maggio)
Both managers understandably seemed a little cautious, given the quality in either side. Hero has a great set of midfielders, well utilised here, and although Trebs is well organised, 2 vs 4 in that area spells danger for me and I think they have the quality to create chances despite the deeper line. Trebs has scouted well though, and counter attacking down the wings where Hero is light brings enough joy to merit a draw for me. Probably the 2 best sides for me though.
Bremen vs Granada
(Streller)
I thought Miky wasn't far off grabbing something in this game, he just needed a bit more detail as to how he planned to open up Afro. Liked the setup, protected the defense by sitting deeper and with the pace out wide threatened Afro. Granada planned well, and with the quality in their side managed to open up Bremen enough times to make it count.
Basel vs Palermo
(Campbell) (Hernandez x2)
Eleny seemed as confused by his instructions as I was, but fortunately there wasn't an AM anyway. Entertaining game this, both sides very good going forward. Palermo have a well balanced side throughout and this brought them through against a Basel side that seemed a bit more open at the back than their opponents

Team Talk
Azzy first choice CB De Vrij is out and we'll look to test the CB partnership out by putting pressure from the onset. Pirlo the creative hub in the side and I want Tiago to put immense pressure on him closing him down very quick. Niang will look to make runs in behind so be aware and closest CB pick him up. Our game we'll use width and centre, gets Balla forward as quick as possible and try and take game to opposition playing on the front foot.
DEFENDING TACTICS
Let's make the pitch as small as possible for them, we drop back as a side packing put our half bogging down their passing and slowing the game down. FB need to always show the wingers the outside so they're forced to cross and I'm expecting our CB to win everything in the air. Tiago to play like he did at Atletico playing high pressing especially Pirlo, Ledesma helping him out against the other CM jockeying them and anticipating danger with interceptions and closing down angles and room for them to pass or get through. Wingers to track back any runners also keeping them on the outside.
ATTACKING TACTICS
When attacking let's stretch the game and our team pushes forward playing a higher line pinning them back into their own half. FB to push up one at a time staying wide giving us width and option taking out a man to create space. Ledesma to bring ball forward looking for room always keep it ticking pass pass pass, hit it long to wingers who'll use pace in behind the FB. Totti to float around the attacking third and with his experience of the game know when to make a run or hold it, when to make the killer pass and when to shoot, use that dirty side to block a man, they'll try and pick you up so stay on the move and if you can't beat a man take him out of the game by moving out of position creating space for us to attack the open space. Di Natale use movement to get into goal scoring positions always find the space and stay moving, take hat gamble on making the run or getting in front of defender to get on the end of the ball. Fischer has pace and I want him to drive at defenders making them commit and draw in fouls, cut inside and link with central players. Castro hug the touch line giving us width and balls into the box.
- Montpellier:
- ––––––––––––––––––– Jourdren –––––––––––––––––
Flanagan –– Campagnaro –––– Romagnoli ––– Willems
–––––––––––––––––––– Pirlo –––––––––––––––––––
–––––––––––– Kehl ––––––––– Bentaleb ––––––––––
Bakkali ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Cabella
––––––––––––––––––– Niang –––––––––––––––––––
Subs: Pionnier, Congre, Tiene, Chambers, Green, Ait-Fana, Montano
Injuries: Stefan de Vrij + Jean Deza + Abdelhamid El Kaoutari
Attacking instructions:
- Pirlo is to orchestrate our attacks, sitting deep and playing a patient game until he can pick out an opening to create a chance for the wide men or Niang. Kehl and Bentaleb will provide a short option for him if required, as will the FBs.
- Flanagan and Willems are to join our attacks shrewdly, providing an overlap and getting crosses into the box. Kehl will cover for whichever of them is going forwards, while Bentaleb will make late surges into the box to get onto the end of those crosses.
- Bakkali and Cabella are to work in conjunction with Flanagan and Willems, double-teaming the FB and making runs in behind the defence with their pace.
- Niang is to be on the move constantly, running across the line, making darting runs between Terry and his CB partner and making the CBs uncertain as to his movement.
Defending instructions:
- Pirlo will marshal the midfield, allowing the young legs and stamina of Bakkali, Cabella and Bentaleb to harass and close down the opposition. We will keep the game tight to win the ball back and spring quick counter attacks.
- Kehl will be the enforcer in the middle of the park, protecting Pirlo and ensuring that any on-form attacker is effectively dealt with and closed out of the game.
- Campagnaro and Romagnoli must keep a good shape, hold a good line and ensure clear communication at all times. Campagnaro will the man-mark the main striker and stick to him like glue.
- Flanagan and Willems must keep the opposition wingers out wide, and not let them cross the ball at any time. Ideally they will force them inside so that Kehl, Pirlo and Bentaleb can deal with them.
Sub on 70mins:
Ait-Fana on, Bentaleb off. Formation changes to a 4-2-3-1; we will focus on attacking the defence with pace and movement, dribbling past the man and crossing for Niang, who will now drop deeper off the opposition CBs and make late runs into the box.
Last 10 minutes instructions:
- If winning, keep closing down the ball and keep the opposition well away from goal.
- If drawing, keep the game tight but look to spring Niang, Cabella, Ait-Fana and Bakkali with their pace.
- If losing, push Bakkali up front and give Flanagan and Willems more freedom to attack. Pirlo, Campagnaro and Romagnoli will form a back three and get the ball forward so we can get the goal we need.
- Bordeaux:
- ----------Carrasso
Arias --Umtiti --Laporte -- Maxwell
-------Besic -- Jojic
Marin -----Rosicky ----Vidal
------------Saivet
Subs: Jug,Henrique,Orban,Mariano,Sertic,Cheyrou,Belay
Team Talk: Paok are one of the weakest sides so look to get on the front foot and dominate with pace from the off
Defense
- Look to push up the pitch and set a high line for a pressing game, Both CB's have the pace to get back and defend, Laporte to stick to the frontman and Umtiti cover.
- Full backs to Force the wingers down the line and make them cross it as not a tall side.
- Besic look to dominate midfield by getting in and amongst players and look to track and negate the no.10
Attacking
- Jojic to sit deep and dictate the play with passing
- Marin/Rosicky/Vidal to interchange across the front and look to take on the full backs with their pace and trickery.
- Saivet to drift off the last CB and get him self in the box infront of defenders
Subs - Belay & Sertic on for Besic & Rosicky after 80 mins to inject energy into midfield
- PAOK:
- Starting XI:
GK - Jacobo
RB - John Stones
CB - Miguel Vitor
CB - Rafa Marquez
LB - Lino
DM - Hedwiges Maduro
DM - Konstantinos Katsouranis
RM/RW - Sotiris Ninis
AM - Jorge Valdivia
LM/LW - Miroslav Stoch
ST - Danny Hoesen
------------------------------Jacobo----------------------------------------------
Stones----------------Vitor------------------------------Marquez--------------Lino
-----------------------Maduro------------------Katsouranis----------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ninis----------------------------------Valdivia-----------------------------------------Stoch
-------------------------------------Hoesen------------------------------------------------
Tactics
Overall: Sit in and be solid in defence with two DM's screening the back four, the three behind the striker to break at pace, and interchange throughout. All look to create chances through movement, Hoesen occupy the CB's and create space for the three behind.
Defence: Maduro/Katsouranis to sit in DM, and screen the back four, track midfield runners. Stones/Lino be restrained and narrow. Keep them ahead of us, don't let them in behind, so sit a little deeper.
Attack: Will be based off the counter attack mainly, look to spring through Stoch/Ninis. When we have possession look to get Valdivia on the ball to create. Three behind Hoesen interchanges throughout
(Rosicky)
PAOK will struggle to trouble Bordeaux I feel, with the defense and Besic aggressively stepping up and in this game I feel they're good enough not to get burned and win it back quickly. Twente vs Genk
- Twente:

-Rosales--Bengtsson-Gonzalez--Martins Indi--Schilder
--------------------------Clasie-------------------------
------------Rabiot-------------------Carvalho-----------
---------------------------------Quintero---------------
------------------------Castaignos-----------------------
Teamtalk:
This week up against the league leaders in Genk and as such we've gone with a 5-4-1 formation defensively that allows the players to come forward when in possession to a 3-5-2 whilst remaining solid at the back. Our midfield diamond is to be used to gain control through the centre of the pitch and push forward in bursts.
Defence
Expecting a forward pair for Genk so playing with 3 centrebacks to out number them and crowd out any threats. FBs to stay on their feet and herd their wide players into the corners, keep them outside. If our team have pushed forward and lose possession then ensure the forwards get a quick tackle in to allow us to regroup.
Attack
When in possession the two FBs to come forward to swamp the midfield with 5 across, Clasie providing the protection for the backline, Carvalho and Rabiot to go toe to toe with their midfield unit and physically outmuscle them whilst the movement of the attacking pairing of Quintero and Castaignos are both given the freedom to roam and drag markers, neither are expected to perform defensively and to conserve energy for troubling their centrebacks. Rabiot, Carvalho and Martins Indi to go into their box on corners/ free kicks.
Subs: 80m Gauld and Promes for Rabiot & Bengtsson , go 4-4-2 with wingers taking a more traditional flank role.

TACTICS
We are up against a good side in Twente with a great CM trio who will look to hold onto the ball and dictate the game, but we have a plan to be patient and let them have it in the deeper areas before hitting them quickly on the counter attack. We will focus most of our attacking play down the wings, with the full backs getting forward and exploiting their defensive weakness. Get balls into the box and have a go at their centre backs. Mboyo using his height and strength to win the headers with Klose looking to nip in at the last moment. Diaz should stay back at all times with Gutierrez in a box to box role. Defensively, get into two banks of four, with van Buyten leading at the back and make it difficult for them to find a way through. Let them have meaningless possession when they get deep, but when they come forward, we have the numbers back to deal with anything.
Bremen vs Granada
- Bremen:
- -------------Wolf-------------
Selassie--Prodl-Lukimya-Zander
Elia----Vilhena--Kroos--Montero
------------Hunt--------------
-----------Petersen-----------
Defensive Instructions: Today we will come under a lot of pressure from a strong Granada side. I have set up the team as 2 blocks of 4 in midfield and defence and i want you to double up on the opposition and put pressure on them when they are on the ball. I want us to be organised and solid in defence. Be patient as we may not get the ball as much as we would like.
Attacking Instructions: We may not get too many attacks today but when we are given the opportunity i do want us to build attacks. The main aim of today though, as we may be under pressure for long periods is to try and catch Granada on the counter attack.
80th Minute: Obraniak on for Kroos.
85th Minute: Beister on for Petersen.
90th Minute: Ekici on for Hunt and then Ekici will slot in between Kroos and Obraniak to pretty much play 3 central midfielders.
- Granada:
- BuffonNyom---Veltman---Vlaar----Davies
Iturra----Xavi
Brahimi------Klaassen------Januzaj
Streller
Subs: Fernandez, Murillo, Angulo, Recio, Garcia, Rico, Zivkovic
General: Direct attacking football, with plenty of movement and quick passing.
Attacking Tactics:
Quick, pacey pass and move, not giving opposition time to settle. Streller is focal point, holding up the ball and allowing the midfield up to support. When the ball comes into the box, get on the end of them. Klaassen look to play off Streller. Look for knockdowns and flick ons. Xavi as playmaker, dictating our play. Full backs getting forward and overlapping the widemen. Wide players looking to cross from wide, aiming for Streller.
Defensive Tactics:
Back four to stay back. Xavi and Iturra to sit in front and protect, Brahimi and Januzaj to support FBs when we are defending. Pressing from the front to ease work load on midfield and defence.
Subs:
Winning on 80, Recio on, Klassen off 4-3-2-1
Losing on 80 minutes, Nyom and Davies off, Murillo and Zivkovic on, go 3-2-3-2
(Streller)
I thought Miky wasn't far off grabbing something in this game, he just needed a bit more detail as to how he planned to open up Afro. Liked the setup, protected the defense by sitting deeper and with the pace out wide threatened Afro. Basel vs Palermo
- Basel:
- ------------------Sommer------------------
Johnson-----Lovren-------Suchy----Safari
--------------Frei------Eleny-----------
Lallana-----------------------------Stocker
-----------------Campbell--------------
------------------Aduriz--------------
Subs , Sio ,
Defence
, CB will mark zonal if two and Lovren will man mark with 1, both FBs will push forward and look to overlap and deliver balls for Aduriz , but only in moderation and one at a time, play direct to Aduriz when clearing and use him to make attacks.
Midfield
Eleny will sit back and both look to snuff out the opposition midfield, he wille magaes the AM and try and take him out the game , Frei will burst box to box, he will look to link up with the front 4 and push on with them, when defending he will buzz about midfield and look to rush the midfield ,The 2 wingers will mix it up but most play will result with it towards the 2 attackers, either ply into the feet of Campbell or high or low to Aduriz , also many crosses to utilise the heading of Aduriz lallana will draft in to drg the LB in for Jonhson to bomb past, stocker will stay wider and look for more crosses.
Both to ways track back.
Striker, Focal point role for Aduriz look to get in the box for crosses and knock down to the 3 attacking mids or receive the ball and look to role into the midfielder , look to get free of markers and I to positions inside the box for box and long balls .Campbell will look to link with the midfielder and work off Aduriz , Campbell will inject pace in the middle of the park and constantly move the modified around, look for knock down and take of the cbs with your pace, also look to Harry there DM/playmaking CM all game and shadow him throughout
- Palermo:
- UjkaniBeck – Kongolo – Mustafi – Pasqual
Schneiderlin – Verre – Barreto
Markovic – Hernandez – Perisic
General:
Going to a 4-3-3 today to best utilise the players I have available. We want to play a high tempo and high pressure game in the midfield.
Defence:
The full backs are allowed to support attacks and provide width from deep but their main role is in defending and so must get back into shape when possession is lost. They need to be aware of the ability of our opponents wingers and be quick to deny them space to get the ball across or cut inside.
Kongolo and Mustafi are each responsible for one half of the 18 yard box and communication is key to ensure the striker is accounted for.
The midfield trio are to track runners from deep and pressure the ball as soon as their midfield gets it. We don’t want them setting the pace.
Attack:
The aim is to use the ability we have on the wings to carve out chances for Hernandez who’ll be the target man in the middle.
Both winger is capable of taking their man on and so if the space is inside they’re free to cut in and run at the middle of the defence or shoot if space is there.
One of the midfield three is able to push up and support attacks at the edge of the box too, looking for cut backs or clearances to fall to them.
