How tall are you and what is tall these days ??

My Uni days I was 6ft 1 whether they rounded it up I don't know ??.........Last time I got measured I was 5ft 11 and a half.....Don't know whether they f****d up the first time or I've just shrunk with time....Have a tallish Wife who's 5ft 10 and when she wears stilettos she's taller than me which can be a tad embarrassing..

Never felt small back in the day.....But finding I'm looking up more than down these days..

I'm 5'11 3/4... I do the right thing, however and round it off to 6'0. Don't know what constitutes tall by traditional standards. Over here, in the city, I think I'm slightly above average. Plenty 6'6 plus Afrikaans kids muddy the stat sheet though... I'd say 5'10 plus is average 6'3 plus is tall.

I'm 6ft and I'm now short....I'm depressed now. Just lost half a stone (which would apparently make me look taller) but it's all to no avail so I'm off to buy a cream cake!!!!

In my more spherical days this may well have been the case!

I'm 6'2.5" to be precise, though I prefer the more 'round' 1.9m.

And at 45 kg lighter (100lbs for the Yanks) I do reckon I look a little 'longer'.

In modern Britain I'd consider 5'10"-6' to be the 'average' height bracket. Over that you're tall, 6'4" and over being very tall. 5'6" to 5'9" I'd call slightly short (er than average) and below that I'd consider properly short.

Father was 5ft 10 ........My brother is the same height as me..

Guess most boys are slightly taller than their Father..............Funnily enough our Milkman was 6ish..

Never did one rep max's because I didn't want to waste effort or risk injury..............But I've always been vain..  

1 rep max's always seemed a little egotistical for me.

Even when I did lower rep counts and did like to think about my 'max', it was always over minimum 2 reps unaided - wouldn't count it otherwise. Usually aimed for 4 reps at my 'max weight', with the 2nd two probably needing a spot.

Never got that strong though, bench peaked at 112.5kg.

Down at 75kg now though once I'e lost another 5kg I need to get eating more again and try (healthily) build my lost muscle mass back up.

How you lift not what you lift that counts mate........

Can't do deadlifts now....My back is shagged as far as pulls from the floor are concerned...He was right....

Read an article a little while ago in a paper about new 'averages' for 2014 in the UK. Might have been in The Independent.

Anyway, the average male in the UK stands at 5'9" and weighs 184 lb, so they said. So just over thirteen stone. Seems about right to me.

If 5'9" is the average, I'd say anything from 6'0" onwards can be classed as tall. I think when you get to about 6'2" upwards you're getting to the stage where that person's height is probably a stand out feature.

You reckon, Toppy? I think it sounds pretty much on the money. I'm 5'11" so don't really stand out either way (in terms of height that is, obviously my dashing good looks are another matter) but I'd say there's more people around who I see every day who are a little bit shorter than me rather than taller.

Maybe, if it was a survey of Independent readers - bunch of malnourised vegetarian liberal hippies.

Get the same survey done by Torygraph readers, strapping rugger-bugger execs, and I'm sure the number would be higher!

Maybe it's all about the circles you move in. Work-wise I'd consider 6' almost average, definitely 5'10"+, socially I've two mates at c.5'4" and one at 5'8" but the rest are all 5'11"+.

Just did a quick 'survey' of 17 of my guy mates (based on their heights as far as I know) and the average height was 70.7 inches - i.e. 5'10.5".

For years I never had an issue seeing bands on stage then a few years ago I noticed some great long streaks of p!ss getting in the way more and more. Perhaps kids are getting taller although I suspect it was more to do with the lack of gig etiquette amongst the young uns these days and they lack the decency to stand at the f*****g back so everyone could see what is going on.

Outside of that I always liked being fairly tall and still take delight in calling some people "shorty"

It's all relative. I say 5'10 is the beginning of above average, but I live in a well resourced neighbourhood, with a lot of 6'6 Afrikaans people to make me feel distinctly average. The actual national average is around 5'7.5 (which I believe is more or less the global average), but I can't really reconcile that my reality.

Haha - that's based on my educated eye also! Confident the figures are, on average, pretty correct.

As be aside, what qualifies a tall member of the fairer sex? Think truss' wife is certainly tall, certainly taller than my 5'2ish girlfriend. Think 5'7 is a taller girl, with 5'9 being tall.
