Granada 2-0 Montpellier
No tactics from Azzy
Genk 1-2 Palermo
(Riviere) (Valencia & Schneiderlin)
Sodhat has gone out and put in a Mourinho tactical masterclass today for me, setting out his stall to stop Genk where their best down the wings and has done it in effective style with the doubling up on the wingers taking them out the game for the most part. I think playing more defensive has backfired on Genk with Palermo's midfield able to hold them back and stop the counters. If Genk has gone more attacking they would of got a draw minimum personally i believe Riviere would be able to give Mustafi & Colo the run about with the right supply. I enjoyed the ball over the top ploy from Palermo but not convinced it would work against Genk's deep line but Valencia's pace and movement will get him chances that eventually he'd be able to convert.
Bremen 2-2 Bordeaux
Maher, Petersen; Pelle, Drogba
Overall, I found it difficult to split the two sides. Both looked to exploit obvious weaknesses in the opposition. Bremen targeted the wide areas because of the narrow set-up from Bordeaux, and with the 3 at the back, this worked well. Brodeaux tried to counter with the two wider CBs moving to support, but this then created more space for Maher and Hunt. However, I also felt Bremen a little lightweight in CM. Vilhena was a little isolated, as both Maher and Hunt would be more focused on going forward IMO. And although Kishna and Montero were instructed to tuck in, they were also instructed to attack the wide areas, so I couldn’t see them being able to do both well. This gave Alonso plenty of time on the ball and with him dictating play, chances would come. With the finishing quality of Pelle and Bojan (and Drogba), these chances would be taken.
Therefore, I’ve gone with a high scoring draw.
Basel 1-1 Getafe
(Stocker 21; Naldo 40)
I don't like the disrespect shown by the Getafe manager against the quality of Basel's tactics, which I feel are good. Changes have been made and they are for the better. I can see Basel causing serious problems to the Getafe defense with their pace, and with their full backs bombing forward, and I feel the Getafe front three are a little disjointed. However, Basel are weak at central midfield and Suchy isn't good enough, along with Getafe possibly having a slightly stronger line-up man for man. Overall it's pluses and minuses for both sides, and therefore a draw is a fair result in my mind.

TACTICS
Tricky game this week, but we need to win to keep up our title challenge. They have some pace in their attack so are hold a deepish back four, and looking to get men behind the ball Our full backs should be a little more defensive minded than normal and should get narrow to force their wingers out wide which favours us. Diaz also stays back as the shield in front of the back four. This week, we want to keep a clean sheet.
When we get the ball, look to counter them with loads of pace in our front three, all are good with the ball at their feet and should look to dribble and swap positions to be difficult to pick up. Aranguiz and Gutierrez have license to get forward to support the striker in box to box roles. Target the lack of pace in their defense, particularly Collocini.
- Palermo:
- UjkaniBeck - Mustafi - Coloccini - Pasqual
Schneiderlin - Canales - Bolzoni
Markovic - Valencia - Perisic
Overview
Back to a 4-3-3 today with specific intention to counter my opponents propensity to emphasis wing play. We want the full backs to be vigilant and the two wider CMs to focus on covering the inside of the field to prevent easy opportunities to cut in. We've gone with pace in the attack to exploit the counter attack.
Defence
We're half expecting 2 up top, and if so it'll be zonal marking in the box to prevent us being pulled out by forwards movement.
The full backs are to stand off their men and not commit to challenges. The aim is to block the cross coming in or funnel them back inside to the midfield trio.
Both wider CMs will be sat inside with an eye on getting back if the FB is out of position or gets beaten. No free crosses. Watch them cutting inside too.
Attack
We're soaking and attacking with pace, so when we win it back look for Canales who'll be the pivot between defence and attack. He'll move the ball to the wings or over the top for Valencia to burst on to.
Both wingers will start wide and look to cut inside or out dependant on what the defence is showing them.
Longer balls from deep from the FBs or CMs are encouraged if we catch their defensive line high. We have the pace to trouble them over the top.

Selassie - Prodl - Badstuber - Alonso
Kishna - - - Vilhena - - - - Montero
- - - - Maher - - - Hunt - - - - - -
- - - - - - Petersen - - - - - - - -
I think 4-5-1 is our formation now and the main focus of this game is to work the space in the wide areas as Bordeaux seem to of played a narrower system last week and i want to exploit that in the wider areas.
Defensive Instructions: This is the first choice back 4, make your tackles count and always be on your toes. Watch for the runners through the centre especially if they play a narrower system and i want Alonso and Selassie to loop round and cover in those situations to provide extra support. We should look to operate the wide areas as well in case they choose to try and exploit them.
Attacking Instructions: We will almost be playing 4 attacking midfielders at times behind Petersen with Kishna and Montero pushing into the wide areas and working the ball there. Vilhena i want you to always be looking to push the ball into the players in front of you and make the passes count as you are the player that pretty much everything will go through into the more advanced areas. Maher and Hunt i want you both to work together to support Vilhena and at the same time support the wider players and always provide an option for them. Petersen i want you to be making all sorts of runs in behind the defence and you should have a lot of support from the players behind you.
80th Minute: Di Santo on for Petersen.
85th Minute: Buffel on for Kishna.
90th Minute: Garcia on for Alonso.
- Bordeaux:
- -------------Olimpa
------Besic --Laporte -Umtiti
Arias---Alonso ---Jojic -----Orban
------------Rosicky
---------Bojan --Pelle
Subs: Jug,Mariano,Maxwell,Cheyrou,Vidal,Sanogo,Drogba
Team Talk: We're up against a newly improved Bremen We don't have crippling injuries so we're going 3 at the back with Arias/Orban getting up the pitch. Bojan is going up top to join Pelle so a little & Large combo
Defensive
- When defending push into a back 5
- Laporte to pick up the main forward
- Besic & Umtiti to watch for AM's & Wingers going into their area,
- Besic/Umtiti to help Arias/Orban with wingers when they come down that side.
- Look to make them cross the ball into our land of tall people.
- If their full backs come forward then Besic act as RB/Umtiti as LB with the wingers then Arias/Orban to take the full backs coming up
Attacking
-Alonso to sit and dictate the play look to knock it in behind their full backs for the wingers getting up the pitch also can go long to Pelle
- Jojic to get forwards and look to create and link with Rosicky
- Arias/Orban to whip crosses in and take on the full backs
- Pelle to go up for knockdowns and get in the box at crosses
- Bojan to use his movement to get in behind and on the end of Pelle's knockdowns
If losing Drogba for Bojan - Punt the ball up the pitch at our giant forwards
Basel 1-1 Getafe

- Basel:
- ------------------Sommer------------------
Johnson -----Lovren-------Suchy----Blind
---------------Eleney------Frei------------
-------------------Delgado----------------
Sio----------------Aduriz-------------Stocker
Subs , Sio ,
Defence
, CB will mark zonal if two and Lovren will man mark with 1, both FBs will bombard forward constantly and get the oppo on the back foot, maintain an upfield presence and push there wingers back, look to overlap the inward cutting wingers and keep the FBs tru, try to keep with there wingers at all times , play direct to Aduriz when clearing and use him to make attacks.
Midfield
Eleny will sit back and both look to snuff out the opposition AM and try and take him out the game when'd feeding in numbers, when the FBs break Eleney will slot in behind the Cbs and will act as a CB to mantain 3 at the back. Frei will burst box to box, he will look to link up with the more forward players, defensivly he will slot back alongside Eleney wand work in tandem. Delgado will sit behind Aduriz and look to be in space, his job is to receive the ball and feed the front 3, when defending he will mark any CM/DM and give him a lil kicking through the game.
The attackers will work like a normal front 3, Aduriz will be a target man and look to feed the 3 around him while getting I. The box, Sio and stocker will cut inside and look to take the game word the Cbs, if 3 at the back stay wide and stretch the defense
- Getafe:
- RomeroNaldo Terry LopezMaggio Tiago Ledesma KurzawaTottiDi Natale BerbatovSubsAlexisEscuderoRolfesLeonKalouInjured PlayersSammirMichelCodinaTeam TalkBasel lack ambition, their manager has been copying and pasting tactics for many weeks and this kind of behavior will rub onto the players. Lallana and Campbell are injured making our job easier. Stocker and Lovren are the key men we'll look to force Stocker to defend with our WB attacking them and Berbatov to pull Lovren out of position.DEFENSIVE TACTICSTerry to pick up Adruiz, Naldo & Lopez to pick up any other spare man or sweep up for Terry. Maggio & Kurzawa squeeze the wingers inside so they'll be up against Naldo or Kurzawa who'll nick the ball of them. Tiago & Ledesma the wall in front of the defence, protect them, follow your men and jockey them forcing them to play ball backwards or sidewards. The attacking trio look to slow down the opposition bringing ball from defence so they have to hit it Ling where I'm expecting my team to win.ATTACKING TACTICSI want my WB to pin back the opposition wideman so they are forced to defend and camp, I want constant balls into box for my attackers but very your crosses. Ledesma carry the ball forward always keep it moving and control the tempo while Tiago keeps it simple. Totti demand ball so you can play in our two strikers. Berbatov pull Lovren out of position by going deep or in the hole rotating with Totti. Di Natale stick on the other CB side and play within 18 yard box as the predator you are.SUB 70 MIN IF WINNINGTotti off Rolfes on (Rolfes plays deep in midfield)RomeroNaldo Terry LopezMaggio Tiago Ledesma Rolfes MaggioBerbatovDi NataleSUB 70 MIN IF LOSINGDi Natale off Kalou on (Pace stretch the tired legs of defense) same formation

Verona 2 vs 1 PAOK
(Sturridge, Jese) (Finnbogason)
This game starts out very open and quick free flowing football is played until Sturridge manages to get away from the last defender and put his team one up before Finnbogason equalises shortly after with a header from a corner. The game remains very open and exciting throughout with plenty of chances from both teams however Jese manages to get played in behind to slot in the winner for Verona.
Verona Feedback: GSC has built a good side with the players able to play well to his tactics, i feel this is what helped them onto the win with the high tempo football from the start making it difficult for PAOK all game.
PAOK Feedback: Olly is building a good side and i see that Finnbogason can make the difference in matches and he showed that by scoring one in this match. I just feel that the high tempo from Verona made it difficult for PAOK for most of the game and PAOK wanted to have a more attacking style today and i felt that this left them exposed at the back at times.

Re: Week 9 Results
I'd like to apologies firstly to the person who voted on my game, not everyone is going to look at my side like I do an there will always be bias from me and it was wrong of me, I'd also like to apologise to Cherries, good game mate and I'm sure if you had Lallana and Campbell you would have won, thirdly GSC you're a excellent runner and don't need the added crap from and lastly to everyone in the league. I should have waited a few hours before I made a comment it's only a game were here to have fun.
