Re NWQ quota;
Old PA said - "agreement that a six non Welsh qualified player plus two 'time serving player' limit in Regional squads will be honoured. This is intended to fall to a minimum total of six including 'time serving players' by season 2013/14"
New RSA says - "The limit on foreign players in Regional squads has been capped at a maximum of six while each Region will be allowed two so-called time serving players who will be available for Welsh selection after three years residency."

Re: PEACE IN OUR TIME ?
Just to add this one A fixture is due to be played the week before the first 6N game (against England this year) when LV games are being played (Os v Dragons) does the 13 day release apply, the week before there is a full round of Guinness games being played. By all accounts there is to be a RRW Press Conference today.
Well done RRW

Probably I guess. Hope Gatland will be flexible on this issue as it's a pain in the backside much like the 4th AI. Something to sort at another time in the not too distant future perhaps.

.......Like the Treaty of Versailles, despite all the promises it is almost certainly not the final solution. One regional board member described it as "a not unreasonable framework" adding that, "you'd have to go nuclear if not agreeing this and only one region wanted to do that."

You reap what you sow, Paul...........
Anyone else getting anoyed by the Fail and BBC calling this a £60M deal when its actually a £52M deal, ie an extra £2M per annum on top of the £6.7 previous for 6 years? The extra £3.3M per annum being talked about includes £1.3M per annum the Regions have to find from their existing bugets.

The headline aside - and that's typically awful in itself, considering 'peace in our time' is a famous phrase precisely because it didn't bring about peace (to put it mildly) - it's the photo that infuriates me. Here he is, the biggest impediment to a deal, a man who lies as easily as he breathes, a man who wouldn't know what dignity was if it smashed a mirror over his head, being portrayed as the chuffing Messiah, as the man who has brought peace about. I'm surprised they didn't go the whole hog and add a shaft of heavenly light and a halo.

It's a great article, and this is the pick of the paragraphs for me:
'Perhaps the most important quote in the announcement is from WRU CEO, Roger Lewis, when he says: "The regions are a vitally important component of the structure of Welsh rugby and they have to be able to thrive and develop for the game in Wales to remain successful." Most people involved in running those regions still need convincing he really means that and who can blame them? It is not very long ago, when he was trying to wield the big stick, that he was threatening to disband the present regions and form new ones. He still has a massive task on his hands to win back trust and confidence - some believe it is impossible.'

Re: PEACE IN OUR TIME ?
Sin, in the Mark Davies CEO of the Scarlets and acting head of RRW interview last Friday, after the RRW press conference, alluded to the same thing, and this morning Andrew Millward General Manager of Ospreys Rugby categorically said we now have the rights to negotiate our own TV deals, obviously these are the WRU rights being handed over and they will start at the conclusion of the present agreement, if you want to see these interviews they are on the Ospreys website.Sin é wrote:wayne wrote:SS, I'm of the same opinion as you, as I put earlier these things at the moment are just rumours, the one about the WRU wanting to put players where they wanted last week, was the reason the agreement couldn't be signed last week and the AWJ rumours stemmed from that, from what I understand there are some form of game limitations involved in this new treaty, it would be interesting to find out how many games the Gatland ten have played for their Regions in the last few years anyway and there are television rights issues being handed over to RRW after the present deal expires.ScarletSpiderman wrote:Before I decide if its good or bad news, I'd need to know what happens with regards the dual contracts I.e. are players told that certain sides would be better to sign for when their contracts expire etc. And also how long the national team get access to players and if there are any game limits imposed etc.
On the face of it ATM, the blues seem to have gained massively on this and the dragons have been shafted. However on the last deal the ospreys were shafted and the dragons gained hugely. I guess someone always comes out better than someone else.
Are you sure about the tv rights thing now? Seems the PRO12 management (John Feehan) handle the tv deals now for the PRO12.

I'd put my tenner on Uncle Pete wanting to take the nuclear option.
Remember this......
Thomas, a multi-millionaire businessman and former Cardiff player, accused WRU chief executive Roger Lewis of attempting to “destroy” the regions, saying: “There is a desire within the regions to work with the WRU but there is no appetite from the regions to work with Roger Lewis. We have no confidence in him.
“His agenda is to destroy the regions and take complete control. Unfortunately for him, he has picked a fight with the wrong guys. As far as the regions are concerned, there’ll be no turning back.”

Re: PEACE IN OUR TIME ?
The Blues were also the ones with the rumoured biggest benefit from dual contracts. Anscombe being lured over early and yet linked the dual contracts. No point him getting one unless it was part of the original deal.
The reason I thought Ospreys was because Hore was the one wanting a fundamental change in the regions role in community rugby.

Aye you're right, but Hore was banging that drum, way back in 2010. WRU didn't want to know. May well still be the case, i'm not sure.

IMO, it was the Pieman who was willing to take the nuclear option coz he's mega-minted and can handle losing a mi££ion or 3 (CCS?), if that's what it takes. Also he was the one shouting the loudest out of the 4 and my guess is that he will never, ever again sit in the same room as Dodger. The others probably feel the same way. Hardly a recipe for peace or the best way forward for Welsh rugby.
That being said; anyone know when these duel contracts are due to kick in?

All the more reason for the WRU to get rid of the fecker. He can go off and do his own range of motivational self-help tapes.
