First topic message reminder :
such a shame Strootman got injured before the world cup. Think he'd be at the club otherwise. He should have been here last summer along with thiago but we ballsed it up and ended up with fellaini.

That is strange logic... Maybe Reeva's family should send OP a box of chocolates to apologise for all the the stress shooting their daughter has caused him

Christ we're playing a bag five containing 4 left footers as well as Di Maria and Van Persie, I have no idea who's playing at left back would hope and presume it's Blackett but the team has a far better shape to it. Not really been a fan of the diamond formation but it could get the best out of our attacking players.

I suspect it's more this by what's LVG said
----------De Gea
Rafael --Evans -- Rojo -- Blackett < Could swap Rojo to LB
-------Herrera -- Blind
Mata ------------------Di Maria < Also could swap
-------------Shrek
------------RVP

Dutch player of the year playing in that position for Ajax, make of that what you will as I can't say I watch much if any Eredivisie football.

From what I've seen of him like Carrick he's got limited mobility, but his passing isn't as good as Carrick'sHammersmith harrier wrote:Olly wrote:He's no better than Carrick, worse probablykingraf wrote:Confessing absolute ignorance here, how good a DM is Blind?

Think you'd be better having him at LB (although you might tbf god knows what formation you're playing today!!)

I have no opinion on him as the only games i've seen him play were during the world cup, just interested what people are basing these opinions on, the same goes for Rojo too.
It's not as if they've come from glamorous leagues that get much attention nor have they played in big champions league matches that might have been seen by a few.

Yeah, Van Gaal said it will be 4-4-2. Rojo at left back you'd have thought. Just whether it's a flat four or a diamond.

We've got a Saffer lad who plays a starting role for ajax. He's currently benching in the national squad for a guy playing league 1 football. It's quite literally the only comparison I have.

I am only going off what I've seen at the world cup/a few CL games with Ajax
My initial thoughts are when everyone's fit he won't be in the starting xi. Let's see what he can do over the coming weeks

If LvG is going to play a 4/4/2 diamond from here on out. Then RVP's limited movement means he'll struggle to remain in the starting XI. As much great as RVP has been, he's the odd man out at present.

Utd at there most vulnerable at the back, there massive strength is in attack, QPR have come with zero ambition. Makes no sense

Think that sums up the Basque culture from Herrera there, no diving or rolling around for what was a certain free kick.

Oh, and Blind's a better DM than he is a CB, but not quite as good as he is on the left. Probably wouldn't stop you signing a better one, but there's no need to worry if you see him there.

Our pressing in midfield has been the most pleasing thing, we are at least trying to defend from the front and the energy of Herrera and Di Maria has made a huge difference.
