Tough draw for us but home advantage will help. Stoke always play well here and can see this going to penalties.

Hopefully Rodgers will get the hang of cup competitions and with better squad depth give it a go, Middlesbrough should be beaten even if Rodgers plays a team like this:

Jones
Manquillo - Toure - Sakho - Flanagan
Lucas
Can - Allen
Markovic - Lambert - Coutinho

Tottenham away. Another ground to tick off the old list. Happy with that, but my wallet isn't impressed as we've got Bournemouth on the Friday night!

Pretty awful refereeing for that penalty decision, wasn't even a difficult one.

Pelligrini mightn't even last the season.

what's up with Newcastle winning matches all of a sudden? Very Happy

Chelsea hot hot favourites now surely? Must say I thought Shrewsbury did a great job yesterday. Admittedly they had perfect conditions (very wet, slippery and an average pitch) and a referee who suited them (he had a perfectly good game, but a tendency to let things go), but they showed great pride, passion, were very well organised. The roar when they equalised was something else. Proper cup tie.

Derby away next up, I didn't watch any of Derby at Fulham, but any team who scores 5 in 20 minutes must be doing something right. Could be another very good game.

my feeling on the red was that it's a foul. Initially it's six-of-one/half-a-dozen-of-the-other, but when Remy manages to nip in front Buxton pulls him back by putting an arm around his waist. However, by then the keeper had pretty much reached the ball, so don't think it's a red, maybe a yellow.

I liked the fact that Derby gave it a go and didn't just sit back and try to defend, they acquitted themselves well and scored a lovely goal, but Chelsea were too strong in the end. Hope injuries to Zouma and Drogba aren't too serious (Drogba seemed more of a precaution, but Zouma took a nasty bang).

Shocking red card yesterday and the ref essentially killed the game off. Don't think it would have been the same if that would have been at the other end (Martin got dragged around by Terry at one point,)
Don't think it made too much difference though as Chelsea looked very good. Nice to see us give it a go and disagreed with Sky sports commentary.

Looking forward to the weekend now and back to the grind of the championship.

Well done to Sheff Utd, looks like Southampton's wheels have fallen off.

Sheff Utd, fair play to them. Semi final this season, semi final(think) of the fa cup last season.

Markovic looking pretty decent now he's got a bit of confidence, glad the red card didn't affect him too much. Sakho is now back, wonder if he will help, my prediction is definitely not, liability at the back and not got a good passing range at all.

It was nice while it lasted...

Enjoyed that match, defensively still really vulnerable but was good to see the team playing with a bit of swagger going forward. No idea why Rodgers has dropped Mignolet now when Jones is his only back up, should have waited until January and then replaced him. Unfortunately I worry that this dropping of Mignolet is Rodgers' attempt at a cheap option instead of replacing him, just take him out of the firing line and put him back into the team later.

it does hit Costa's arm, but given that he's lying on the floor from being unceremoniously bundled over by a Liverpool player I have limited sympathy.

Liverpool have done a very good job at stopping Chelsea from establishing their game. They've pressed hard and rushed Chelsea, but haven't really created enough themselves, and that very clumsy bit of defending from Cam means they have it all to do.
