Yeah, I was performing with a system that outputs the guitar over 8 channels and uses a sensor on the head of the guitar to detect movement- that data is used to pan the signal over the 8-channel speaker array that surrounds the audience. The upshot of that is you can pan the signal wherever you want in real time just by moving the neck of the instrument- so that it's coming from the back of the room, the front, the left, the right.

It also has a looper with an in-built decay so you can build up this great surround sound texture with different sounds coming from all four sides of the room and it just slowly dissipates.

I worked with an interaction designer on putting the system together, its really wonderful.

World Athletics championships is incredible as well.

Notch - I read an interesting article about MIT the other day - designers there came up with a special electric cello for Yo Yo Ma that responds to the electricity generated by his body.

Yeah, I read that article Don- isn't it incredible? There's a Queens based ensemble called the BioMuse Trio who have worked with various interactions and sensors that take information from the human body.

http://www.somasa.qub.ac.uk/~MuSE/?tag=biomuse-trio

Funnily enough, I have had all of these people as lecturers during my degree... the composer of that piece is my current supervisor for my composition portfolio laughing

Exactly. Did you see that Munster Rugby were asked to comment about their fans wearing Northampton scarves at the Heineken Cup.

Neil Francis said he saw "three to four small groupings" of Munster fans wearing Northampton colours. He called these fans a "disgrace" and said "there was something wrong with their internal workings".

To be fair to him he said "To counterbalance these people there were a lot of Munster guys who came over and shook hands and said well done in the spirit of the game and that's they way it should be".

Why were Munster Rugby asked to comment? It's nothing to do with them if some Munster fans decide to wear a certain scarf in a stadium outside their purview in a game that doesn't involve Munster. They can dress themselves. I have to agree with Don here; I think it's a shame that they didn't support the other Irish team but ffs get off your high horse!

I was supporting Leinster, but I would have had a soft spot for Saints had they won because all of their fans were so courteous, polite and good humoured at the quarter-final. A great bunch of people. I know many Munster fans feel the same way having met them in the Heineken Cup and enjoyed their company; I think that's valid.

Munster Rugby had no comment when asked. They gauged opinion on Munsterfans.com too and it is apparantly divided with some fans agreeing and some criticising Francis.

I have divided feelings myself. I think the root cause of it is that there is simply too much spite between fans of different provinces now in Ireland. There's as much bitterness between Leinster and Munster now as England and Wales. It's damaging Irish rugby, this spite.

There's not a sense of friendly rivalry now between the provinces. As Ulster improve the amount of rancour being given and received involving us will increase as well.

Irish Rugby fans have got to smile on their brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now.

Notch - just have a look at the Guinness Supporters Facebook page. The provincial bitching between fans on there is very off-putting at times. They had to put a warning up the other day because they'd done a post about the Magners final. If it wasn't for the players updates, I wouldn't bother with that site to be honest.

It's gone too far Cari. But it has it's own momentum now. Sad.

It's just like football. Certainly if I go back to the RDS I would prefer not to be the lone Ulster fan in a sea of Leinster fans. I wouldn't feel entirely safe without a few locals or a few extra Ulster fans around. The way the fans are now, I feel like segregation is becoming an option.

Notch when rugby was limited to rugby fans that was easy. But when rugby became a game for the masses it got a lot harder.

You know one thing about Leinster. They use social networking and interactive media with their fans better than anyone.

Munster fans who do that are saps. This is the medical term for it. SAPS.

They’re not a disgrace, no more than any other form of sap.

Would someone who tucks their tracksuit bottoms into their socks deserve to be called a disgrace? Not exactly, but they’ve sap written all over them.

Would people who talk loudly on public transport really warrant the label of “a disgrace”? absoluteamend non. But they are surely getting off the bus at SAPton.

So there you go Franno, Saps v Disgraces. Subtle but important differences.

Hobo - I asked for one flipping the V's Wink I don't like the finger gesture, just looks more offensive somehow. Flipping the Vs always looks more amusing to me. Besides you said you were removing it, so I didn't bother to reply.

Staggy - I agree with you on the social networking. I'd say the Irish team as a whole do well on interacting with fans on the web. Wales are non-existent it seems, although I don't use Twitter Rolling Eyes

I think there has always been that kind of spitefulness. Thankfully it's in the minority, but it's much more visible these days due to technology. It becomes a problem as it feeds back into itself as people try to combat it using the same technology and all of a sudden, through a few iterations of the loop, factions develop.

Half the time I think the people in the factions are a bit surprised they're suddenly seen as being in any one camp, because it wasn't even their intention to be seen that way, things just spiralled a bit.

Oh, hello pub, etc.

I think most the bulls***ting is internet stuff stooked up by the press.

I was at confirmation party (was meant to be a b-b-q!) last weekend in Munster - must have been about 40-50 people at it, all but 2 die hard Munster fans. (The 2 were Leinster supporters). We watched the match, and everyone was screaming for Leinster, abusing the ref in the first half etc. Everyone was thrilled for Leinster.

Don't mind the likes of Franno who just wants to stir it up.

Cari - the Wales team players were banned from using twitter during the 6N's which is a good thing I feel - they don't need the added distraction.

A lot of them are on twitter though, it's actually pretty funny following the Scarlets players anyway - there's a lot of banter going on there!

Notch - do you seriously think they are going to at some point need to bring segregation in? I have to say, that in Wales anyway, I have never, not once felt scared going to watch the rugby by myself, no matter which fans I was standing with. It will be a very sad day for rugby if that has to happen. Being able to mix with other fans is one of the things that makes our sport so great.

Yeah, let's be real here. There's still a majority of fans who are proper rugby fans and mutually repsectful and just enjoy the game for what it is!

Unfortunately it doesn't take more than a minority of fans to poison an experience.

Hello greybeard. Good points. When this chat was confined to the clubhouses it wasn't an issue.

Hello Greybeard, have a room-temperature water on me! Wink

I like the V sign. It's a good proper swear but you can get away with it. Flipping the middle finger is coarse and much more offensive. In summary: the V sign is the equivalent of saying 'bloody;' giving the finger is the equivalent of saying 'Flip.'

Dreamer - I know some of the Irish players switch off their Twitter accounts during major competition matches, but they still have the sponsor's site which I think is fab. It gives fans the opportunity to comment on updates posted by designated players, they can have their names put on a players jersey (I got Cian Healy and Sexytoes this season Very Happy ), enter competitions and attend the supporter's events around Ireland which is like a Q & A with former players/pundits in certain pubs. It really gets people involved. We don't have anything like that over here which would be great if they did.

Spot on, Franno is always trying to urine people off, he writes this about Munster, claims there's a quota for Ulster players and coined the term "ladyboys" for Leinster. He writes garbage, which is a pity because he's quite a good pundit behind it all, his work on the breakdown on Setanta is decent.

A lack of understanding of what though Notch?

I think he knows his onions when it comes to speaking about a match. But he chooses to be a doucher when it comes to voicing his opinions on things.

I know my onions. Most types of onions are distinguished by their colour. Smile

I love onions. The smell of frying onions in one of the most saliva-inducing smells known to man.

A lack of understanding in how to act like a professional rugby pundit, I suppose.

I dislike onions immensly. I can only eat them if they are chopped up really small and disguised in some sort of sauce.
