The Official *England's Passage to Paris 2016* Thread
First topic message reminder :
Onwards, we go. Latest England squad has been named for the friendly against Norway, and the opening qualifier versus Switzerland.
Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster (Southampton), Ben Foster (West Bromwich Albion), Joe Hart (Manchester City)
Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Calum Chambers (Arsenal), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), John Stones (Everton)
Midfielders: Jack Colback (Newcastle United), Fabian Delph (Aston Villa), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), James Milner (Manchester City), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal) Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Andros Townsend (Tottenham Hotspur), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal)
Forwards: Rickie Lambert (Liverpool), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United)
You know, such a squad does not fill me to the brim with optimism!
Best side we can muster out of that, assuming Roy takes a 4-2-3-1 shape, would probably be:
Hart, Stones, Jagielka, Cahill, Baines, Henderson, Wilshere, Sterling, Rooney, Oxlade, and Sturridge.

Well deserved from Wilshire that. He has been doing that the last few games and at last the attacker makes the best of it.

Amused that I can only hear the England fans at the moment!
Clyne impressing thus far; hope Barkley and Berahino get some decent game-time in the second half.

Solid rather than great from England.

Game over. Good reactions by Wazza.
Disappointed about Lallana coming on over Barkley, though.

Yeah downing was the worst player for England and rightly taken off. I would like to see Barkley and berininhio on soon.

This is a bit easy. England have really improved on winning the ball back. Of course we won't know for ages to see if we can do it against the top sides. But its encouraging

It's because with Gerrard & Lardass gone we have the legs in midfield to press all over the pitch which is a good thing for international football it's where Spain excelled when they were dominant.

Too easy, this, along with the easy qualifying group is telling us nothing about where England are. Wilshere can just run the show. Clyne can handle a championship player, could he handle a top international winger. That's a ?

Good job done, woeful opposition. Not much learnt, although Roy will probably label it some majestic performance. Wilshere ran the show, can he do it against top sides. Clyne was ok, Russell made his look vulnerable in those last 10 minutes. What was the point of bringing beetroot boy Lambert on, instead of Berahino? Pointless.
