Golfers Wrist Empty Golfers Wrist

Post by LondonJonnyO Wed 25 May 2011, 9:42 am

Much is made of the tennis elbow injury in sports... but little is said about the chronic pain that most golfers suffer at some point. Golfers Wrist. This pain is usually focused about the leading hand in the impact position and is caused by being limp in that area.

So. Who here has a limp wrist and has had it dangling due to excessive use of their leading hand?

And how did you go about strengthening the area?

there are many websites you can visit that show .....material.....that if you visit regularly, like myself, limp wrists will be a thing of the past. i have convinced myself its part of my golfing excercise routine.

I have very big, strong wrists, that always need a much bigger watchstrap than normal!

I had put this down to playing golf for 50 years!

Was I wrong? Cry

NST - pots and kettles mate, pots and kettles!

Mind you, I've never had a limp wrist and have always had a strong grip. Wink

So as elsewhere there is usually a thread below.

I have never had a wrist injury in my life, as I said, I have very strong wrists. Golf, tennis, cricket and a whole host of other bat and ball sports have seen to that.

For rehabilitation, I would suggest a tennis ball. Squeeze it slowly but strongly, this will exercise and strengthen all parts of your arm from fingertip to shoulder.

Shanker - all joking apart, I've heard that the tennis ball squeeze is a good rehab exercise for the wrist. Guys that use their wrists a lot in their profession (grease monkeys for example) develop strong wrists. I read somewhere that the late Max Faulkner who won the British Open back in the fifties was of slight build, but had strong wrists from his manual job...

There always is... It would be pretty dull without something underlying the obvious. And it tends to expose the filthy minds that everyone has on this place. Honestly. Some people need serious amounts of therapy. (advertistment: You can find my services at www.IPromiseNotToMakeItAllAboutYourFatherIssues.com)

It's actually fine now. Been rolling it with 4 kilo diving weights in hand.

You had to walk off the course because of it?? Is it worse in a 3 club wind and driving rain? If so you could always ask Sandy Wink

It got to the stage where I wasn't able to keep my hand on the grip of the club. And any sort of strike was making it worse.

I could have taken some painkillers or something but considering I have the bournemouth thing coming up and D4S invitation day the very next day I didn't want to aggravate it and be sidelined for a while.

Tiger Balm. Red and Green are both good... but they mask the underlying issue. Hence my reluctance to use them on the course.

You seem to pick up a lot of injuries, you either have unfortunate DNA or are a bit of a hypochondriac?

Neither of the above.

I just get involved in things which tend to cause me injuries.

Would put your wrist injuries down to eating curries and pub crawls, I for one suffer from the same problem, I put mines down to having to crawl several miles on my hands and knees( well when you are drunk you will go along way for a good Currie and once you've eating it you become to scared to stand up even if you can).

I have now cured mine by taking my son out with me, cost me much more money but at least he will carry his dad home

Hmm... I have a plan forming... I'm not too keen on the being carried part. But a small trailer to sit in whilst I'm dragged home could work. thumbsup
