Sky Sports throw everything they have at Pro12 coverage, and hit the mark

This seams to be glowing praise for the Sky coverage.
What were your thoughts on it?
Will it help bring the league to the attention of a wider audience?

Kingshu wrote:How did "Sky Sports throw everything they have at Pro12 coverage, and hit the mark" desend to become a clubs/regions argument?
ah well, most topics usually do, I may as well join in
My take of it is Scarlets and Blues Kept thier European records and history when they went regional, making them super clubs,
Scarlets - didn't have the same rivalry with their neighbour clubs they are now representing and were able to more successfully evolve into a region.
Verdict - Promoted Superclub evolving to become a region
Blues - paid to stand alone as a superclub and only wanted to represent Cardiff, but with the WRU closing the Celtic Warriors the WRU increased the representive area against the Blues wishes, they did have rival neighbours and the WRU forced marriage was never going to be a happy one.
Verdict Superclub (with extra unwanted representive area pushed onto them)
Ospreys - started with a brand new history in 2003 and while the clubs of the region have had fallings out are a region
Verdict Region
Dragons - is a difficut one, pushed to keep Newport in the name as were worried they may alienate the majority of their potentional fanbase without it, which makes since at the start. but while Llanelli and Neath-Swansea have been dropped by other team the Dragons have stuck with having the Newport. However are similar to the Scarlets is other respects as they have evolved into a region working with other clubs in thier area, and apart from the Newport in the name the kit and history have been changed so I would say are more regional than Scarlets.
Verdit - region - but still loose ties to Newport for fear of alienating fans.
That's the thing about evolving, most of the time it leads to extinction

You get very 'right on' regarding regions embracing all and sundry disenfranchised dabs, as the panacea for all Welsh Rugby's ills. Seems strange you can't appreciate that the old club supporters might get a bit miffed that they can't watch their club play in the top flight anymore, because they now have to change to represent the club down the road who a) can't sustain it economically, b) don't have a cat in hell's chance of getting there off their own back, and c) won't support the new entity either way. All on the basis of an unproven reasoning that may or may not be the best way for them to succeed as a professional outfit.
It works both ways Stone, I had my "Region" taken away from me and was told to get behind another region, but instead of all the chest thumping I just thought I would try and give my support to all the regions that were left, it is fans like you who keep the disenfranchised fans away from supporting the region with your harping on about how it is still the same club as it always was. Things are changing, people are becoming more open minded about the teams they support, the old bitterness is fading amongst the disenfranchised fans, now it is only parochial and insular fans like you who are holding things back.
1. You did not have your region 'taken' away, it could not support a pro rugby team in it's own right
2. How the f am I insular and harping on about it being the same club? Reality is reality, they are both funded by Rodney Parade Ltd with no input from anyone else. Recognising that doesn't stop me shouting 'Dragons' at home matches.
3. The only parochial and insular one is you, for thinking pro rugby owes you something and that there is no other way for the professional teams in Wales to succeed but for some arbitrary dictat to attempt to be all things to all men who won't support them anyway. It ain't me singing 'I will never be a Blue' whilst 7 players paid for by the Blues help Ponty win qualification to the B&I Cup is it?
7? Thought it was only 5.

Pro clubs based within loosely defined areas. Something like that.
for what reason ? Also they are not clubs.
Bit early for a pub quiz.

Stone, you make me laugh you realy do, remind me again who owns half of your beloved Dragons ? They were on their way out before the WRU purchased 50% of them so please do not talk to me about a region not being able to support itself, I do not sing I will never be a Blue either, but why would the Ponty fans want to go down and rub shoulders with fans who refuse to except that the team they are supporting represents more than just the city it is playing in ? You are parochial and insular, you refuse to se that the Dragons represent a region and not just a city, you still think of the Dragons as being Newport, Newport is only a part of what the Dragons are, also how much funding do you want from the WRU, you demand they put money into the Dragons, which is supposed to benefit the whole of Gwent, then you want to say that it is just Newport anyway.

Don't tell me what I think you flaming half-wit. I haven't said anything of the sort.
The WRU ownership is meaningless, who pays for this abortive child to keep going? That is the simple point you cannot grasp
I am merely unsure whether, after ten years of being the runt of the litter trying to appease people who will not support the NGD regardless, in the name of 'regionalism' is better than Rodney Parade Ltd simply being able to market themselves as they please and get on with the business of getting up the Pro12 League instead of worrying about whether Dai in Pontypool or Blade in Lliswerry think the kit has too much or to little amber in it.
They have bigger fish to fry. Wake up and smell the professional era.

Please, do not call me a half wit again.
You say the WRU ownership is meaningless, hmmmm, let think about this shall we ? Without the WRU comming in to purchase half the Dragons, they would not be here , and I could not give a toss about Newport being in the name, or the colour of their kit, I just wish people would realise that the regions are supposed to mean more than just the city or town in which they play.

Stop acting like one then. The irony is you refuse to see other points of view as a matter of course and point the finger at others being parochial and insular.
I get you think that's the ultimate purpose of 'regional rugby', but what the hell does making everyone feel happy and included have to do with being a professional rugby team?
The WRU ownership is nought but a noose around the Dragons neck until they start putting in some 'inventory'. They forced Newport to merge with an incapable Ebbw Vale, but guess who has footed the bill for the last ten years.

Stone I do see other people's points of view, it's the core of fans like you who do not,we have all had to make changes and change alliances to the teams we support, but the few local fans who only want to see their region as some sort of newly formed club are holding the region back, we ALL need to buy into the regionalism picture, not just the fans from outside the towns and cities who are being told to get behind your region, it's almost as if they are being told "Get behind your region, but when you go down to the ground to support them, the locals are going to tell you it's not a region, it's our club", can you blame fans for not bothering ? Look, it has been ten years now, so surley somebody who is now in their twenties should not be as bitter as somebody my age but these fans are feeling isolated because the local fans only see it their way.

Also, perhaps we should forget about the money that the WRU put in firstly to by the 50% shall we, oh and the couple of million they give each Region every year, which has now been upped significantly.

You really haven't got a clue, try Uncle Wikipedia if you like.

P.S. news flash, every penny the WRU give the regions is earned.

Regions were meant to be professional sides, that utilise the talent of a larger area, and should attract support from the wider area too. The region are in essence clubs. However they are not the old clubs. The Scarlets are not Llanelli REC, the Ospreys are not Swansea RFC etc etc.
Also, FYI I'm a Pembs boy through and through (not sure if that is something to be proud of on my part mind), and your right since regionalism there appears to be more interest in regional rugby. However, if you came down here pre-regional days you would have still seen a number of Llanelli RFC shirts. Because they were a club that represented (maybe not officially) a regional area of the country.

Yes I know that and I am not going down this argument again, but the money is given out equally, remind me again, how much money have the Dragons "earned" from playing in the HC over the past few years ?

Irrelevant, the money was given out for participating in ERC competitions, which the Dragons did in full - even when it cost them the hire of Cardiff City's stadium to do so. Your point being?

It's not irrelevant at all, the Dragons were not in the HC there for did not earn the money from sky for showing the games, so in affect they were being subsidised by the other three regions, I tell you what if you want to go down the route of having what you earn the Dragons would be even potless than they are now. They even get paid the same as the other regions for the use of international players, how many of those do you have compared to everyone else ?

Have not seen their coverage as of yet. Have not seen Sky advertising the games either, though that may be because I only actively watch cricket on Sky atm.

It's very similar to the coverage of the Aviva, I have to say it's a nice change.

Utter BS - the money from the HC covers the Challenge Cup also which was also broadcast. The Union also pay out a pittance for international release that does not cover anybody's expenses so another red herring.
Arguably, if they pulled out of the Dragons, the very wealthy men who own the other 50% and who presumably don't like having a liability like Rog having any say over their business, would start funding the team to a greater extent, as we have seen since the regions entered the current power battle with the WRog.
You need to do some research, everything you post is supposition, hysteria and an utter waste of time.
