If you follow a sport like cycling or nfl properly you can win serious money off companies that just follow media reports

Won 110 quid in the recent vuelta cycling race. Easy money

I think you do too long a long list to expect to win regularly.

Bookies odds are a pretty good indicator of your chances.

This week you had £1 to win around £150. That suggests that bet will win once in every 150 times. Put it this way, if you do one a week, you'll win once every 3 years on average.

I would set your sights on winning less.

If you pick a 5-6 teams with average odds of 1/2, you can still get odds of around 7/1 to 10/1, which I think is a good return.

Also I rarely win myself so no point asking for my advice Wink

One tip is stop backing teams to win and start backing something like Both Teams to Score or Over/Under 2.5 goals.

I've just started watching the NFL this season (Congratulations on the win against us) so need to pick up a lot more before I put any money.

I'll try your approach this week Afro, you're right on me expecting to win regularly.

I thought you won regularly.

5 teams to win at 1/2 gives me £7.59 with William Hill.

Also the sod's law (I don't think it is our Sod, but if it is, I need to have a word with him) of longlist betting is that you nearly always have 1 match that kills your bet.

I took to doing multples to cover myself. I like to try and pick 4 draws, but always go with any 3 draws from the 4. If you get 3, you get a reasonable return of around 6 or 7 to 1, and if you get all 4, it then jumps up to around 25/1

I usually bet on NFL stuff. I usually lose all my money on NFL stuff too.

The only acca I can remember coming in was an international football one, and it bagged like £50 or so.

I met some real Americans yesterday and played golf with them. They were shocked I knew about American football.

If you had a duck from birth, and for 5 years or so kept it on dry land so it didn't even know what water was, would it know how to swim if you threw it in a pond?

A normal sized duck, with an anticipated life span of 8-10 years.

I said 5 years in case it contracted duck aids or something.

Miky - then yes, I rate Varane about the same as you.

Soddy - I'm going to say yes as the saying is that you take to something "like a duck to water". This implies they would pick it up very quickly.

Yeah but they also grow up with their mummy ducks telling and showing them how to swim. Without that and no concept of water, do they know what to do?

Humans are supposed to float as well. I do not float.

I'm still going with the saying implying they pick it up quickly.

The saying isn't "takes to it like a duck to water when it is shown by it's Mum".

Whenever I've seen a duck hop in the water for the first time (which isn't as regularly as I make it sound), they seem to just hop in and swim. There's no teaching, or support from Mum whilst they used to it. They just hop in and they're off.

In fact, the mummy duck tends to jump in and swim away from the baby ducks, and they are just expected to jump in and follow

Back to hockey on Saturday too. I have an expensive gum shield made and moulded to my face to wear. I don't know if it will really help much.

How does a fish learn to swim?

Also there are fish who can navigate their way to places they've never been as they grow up. Its an inherent thing.

Conceded 1 goal in past 3 games and 2nd best defence in Premier League at present. I think he's done really well so far, sure when the injuries to others heal up he'll be on the bench but I certainly don't think he's done himself any harm with his performances.
