"We"?? I'm surprised you associate yourself to an organisation that has squandered over £135 this summer, whilst there are homeless people on the streets and starving children in the world!! They could have spent £135m on those things and left the squad alone, finishing top half would still be ok wouldn't it? Especially if so many peoples lives were improved by redirecting transfer monies to charity.

Ooooh. Now there's a thought...

Actually, I should probably resign from my job, go put on a hair shirt and whip myself for a week as punishment for the use of that term. What was I thinking??

No, that's not it at all but you go ahead and exaggerate if you like. Personally, I hate people who're over-hyped on the basis of pretty much FA real evidence of their excellence - a common problem these days. Affleck was Poopie in Pearl Harbour for one thing, but I'll give him some credit and allow that it might have been a Poopie script and he should therefore ask his agent a question or two. Pretty Poopie in Armageddon as well from what I recall. If he wants to get involved in academic arguments over Islamic stereotyping, then he needs to act a bit more sensibly and stop throwing a tantrum when someone chucks a deliberate curveball at him or, he simply disagrees with a valid point someone else has made.

Watched 24 hours in A&E last night.

One of the patients was a young woman who'd gone out on her motorbike, stuffed it and lost half a leg.

I've never "got" motorbikes despite the annual occurrence of the TT (and by fook that looks scary from the on board cameras) so assuming there must be a bike nut amongst us, what is it about them as they just seem like impending accidents to me with no protection?

Fortunately, Vermont might have done well there too as our cheese is superb.

What a crappy time of year, our clocks go back, it's going to be November which means winter is here, there's snow in the forecast, and on top of all that it's Hallobloodyween.

I love Christmas, get to see members of the family who I don't see much otherwise (those who live in England). Missed out last year as the missus couldn't travel (bl**dy paperwork), though that did mean we could have oysters on Xmas day, something I'd never done before! This year though will be traveling to London and having a merry old time of it Very Happy

Had a good Christmas two years ago, half the family was ill so just stayed at home on my own with a power of beer.

What don't I like about it? I hate the commercial aspect of it, I hate that it's in your face from about Nov 1 onwards if not earlier. I hate Christmas songs, I hate the expectation that you MUST enjoy yourself. I hate how bored I'll be over the holiday, I'll probably go into work as I'll be so bored even though I'm off from Mid Dec to mid January. I hate people saying "Merry Christmas" etc, like they give a toss.

Some of the social aspect of it is ok, Christmas Eve always used to be good down the pub, but Christmas is never really a hugely fun thing if you're a single gent.

I've spent a good few Christmas's in ski resorts and it's much better over there, it's a day earlier over there and not built up for months on end, it's there, then it's gone.

That's the way I would like to see it done.

When did I say I hate Christmas Dinner Mac?

I have dinner very regularly with the family anyway, so if I did have a criticism of that it is that it feels a bit forced to HAVE to have one on Christmas Day.

As an atheist I assume you view christmas as a secular event, in which case christmas is mostly about the party on the day. That party usually revolving around the dinner. So when you say you hated christmas I assumed you meant the party/celebration on the day.

Christmas is an all encompassing term Mac.

Another thing I dislike it is that people view it as a time to be nice and caring towards one another. Why not just do that all the time?

I suppose at least at yours your 9 Chins poster won't steal the last roast potato.
Must be tremendous fun for your family to have the worlds most right on man at dinner, refereeing the dinner topics and the bar at which it must not cross.

Agree Plunky!

Mac,
If all those "Holiday" dinners were all they're cracked up to be, wouldn't we be enjoying them year round?
All I know is that, come Thanksgiving, I'll be catering for meals that I don't care for, for unappreciative guests who get sozzled on my vino and Scotch, there'll be those ghastly Xmas songs on the radio and nothing worth watching on the box. Fingers crossed for a UEFA Cup double-header so that I can royally p1ss everyone off.
And save me, please, from the assault on everything retail on the day after when the Vermont peshmerga come down from the hills to launch a full-frontal attack on Downtown Burlington. Probably as heavily, if more discreetly, armed as the Kurdish version.

At least more families keep to themselves over here at Xmas, a redeeming feature if nothing else.

Mac, I've nothing against it, I just think it doesn't need to be contrived and almost mandatory like Christmas is.

It makes me feel a bit like a prisoner, away from my house and comforts, usually awful weather, forced chat, too much food, no personal sanctuary etc etc.

Usually I make it the briefest of trips. Christmas Eve, then home on Boxing Day.

Have to say, I tend to agree about all of that, especially the fact it's basically Christmas from Nov 1st. By the time it actually comes around, I almost couldn't care less. I like the getting together with family, eating good food and having a drink aspect but loathe the over-commercialised, excessively long run into it.

Christmas is a bit OTT.

Best part for me is xmas eve. Beers down the pub with your mates.

Also an important time of year in the football calender.

Being a dad now, its more the enjoyment for my son.

Although he has just turned 1, so to young to understand.

I have xmas eve off this year,so an extra day off work, cant complain.
I do prefer xmas eve/day to new years.

Not been out nye for about 6 years, no interest.

New Years is a bit annoying. You're basically expected to go party and have fun. Usually it just ends up being a bit flat. I much prefer just partying / getting hammered on a normal Fri/Sat.
