Dave Coldwell Statement

It is with deep regret that I have to make the following statement.

Jerome Wilson unfortunately suffered a severe head injury during his fight in Sheffield last night. He is receiving the best possible care and while he receives treatment Jerome's family request privacy at this difficult time. Further updates will be released when Jerome's family feel it appropriate to do so therefore no further comment will be made until directed by Jerome's family.

Wishing him a speedy recovery, apparently his opponent was a disgrace while he was unconscious as well.

Both prospects mate, two who don't get any media attention. Jerome is 8-3 while Serge Ambomo is 4-0. This hasn't even been mentioned on Sky Sports which says an awful lot about their "boxing news" section. This was a rematch from May, which could explain why he reacted like he did following the knock out.

Shame that. Does say a lot that these prospects are not mentioned. Especially given the circumstances surrounding the fight. Sad time for boxing. More coverage should be made from the sky team, especially in this situation.

Damn shame. Get well soon, Jerome Wilson!

To be honest when you see in the flesh how hard these guys hit eachother...You're surprised there aren't more severe injuries...

Truss, I tend to think boxing is necessary. I believe there's something inate in humanity that enjoys fighting. At least boxing has rules, doctors and safety provisions. The alternative of back alley brawls is a far more dangerous scenario.

Anyways, enough of that philosophical guff. Hope the Wilson family have some good news soon.

Jerome Wilson unfortunately suffered a severe head injury during his fight in Sheffield on Friday night.

After a life saving brain operation he is currently in a critical condition in hospital.

Jerome's recovery from his injuries are going to take an unknown length of time and obviously his career is now over.

He has a family of four children to support and that burden is now on his partner Michelle. Jerome is self - employed, so no income will be coming in to support his family.
