J.Football just as likely to be in the pokey as the starting line-up.
NYJ,
You had your chance with a QB drafted near the top and blew it on a guy who never proved himself in college. 'Course, you could trade for Sanchez . . . . . .
GSC,
I'm not saying people don't want to win; but I AM suggesting that it's immaterial to some franchises whether they win or not. Their value is going to appreciate regardless.
I would certainly exempt smaller markets from such inference as there are fewer fans to pay exhorbitant ticket prices and they could see their business model go belly up and lose the team to a fly-by-night offer from another City/State.
And this applies to all US Major Leagues, not just the NFL, but obviously the NFL is the most lucrative.

It means ownership is making bad decisions. The Raiders aren't perennial losers because Al Davis didn't care anymore
Would tend to agree GSC... thinking about my own Redskins, you would have to look very hard to find an owner who cared more about his team than Dan Snyder. It's just a pity that he is a total dufus that just makes one bad decision after another.

If he cared one whit, 25, he'd see what a "total dufus" (spot on with that description) he is and step aside from anything other than raking in his ill-gotten gains for fielding such a consistently under-performing team. But his ego is even bigger than his wallet so that ain't gonna happen.

Colt McCoy really sounds like a Roy of the Rovers type character dreamed up by American marketing men. He'd be like the ultimate underdog QB that wins the big game and the pretty girls heart.
RG3 sounds like a killer robot QB that systematically tears apart defences with cold eyes and no emotion.

Belichick had some cracking lines in his presser today.
"@GregABedard: "Whatever hasn’t happened, hasn’t happened." - Bill Belichick"
But that isn't even a patch on this answer...
Reporter - "Do you see any similarities between Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers and how they've elevated their games?"
Belichick - "They both wear number 12."
The man is a comic genius

Oh yeah, they were before and have been for every single second of Snyder's reign as owner. Every year they just seem to become more and more of a mess though. They have somehow managed to become more of a mess this week than they even were last week.

Fire Jay Gruden.... Do it now!!!! Griffin may well not be the answer but it's clear that this guy Gruden does not have a clue how to be a Head Coach!
I'm not usually a fan of getting rid of HCs after just one season but it's clear that Gruden is out of his depth and doesn't have a clue.
FWIW, I think Griffin will go to another team and be a star. He's too damaged now in Washington for it to happen there though sadly.

For me RG3 has never properly been given the time to recover from the injury he got in the playoffs against Seattle. He was rushed back the following season to start in week 1 with no preseason and has been put back in again after injuries. If he can get six or seven months to prepared for next season we may see a better player.
Not sure where he would go from Washington? St Louis perhaps? Arizona, New York or Buffalo?

He isn't going to recover from that injury. The RG3 of 2012 is never coming back
Without that athleticism he's a urine poor QB who struggles to do the basics. Gruden had to do this to establish credibility in his locker room. I'd be encouraged the HC is now allowed to dethrone the golden boy

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
Nah, I think that's harsh GSC. I think Griffin could still be a good QB. Sure you might need to adapt your offense to him but he has a skill set that can help you win. He will go some place else, somewhere less dysfunctional with more of the really crucial pieces in place, i.e. an actual offensive line with actual offensive linemen and a Head Coach worthy of the name, and he will do well.
I'm curious to see when Jay Gruden finally mans up and stops throwing everyone but himself under the bus and accepts that he's made a complete mess of this with his dreadful playcalling, game planning, offseason talent evaluation and man-management. The guy is out of his depth. The way he's been talking about Colt McCoy today reminds me so much of Mike Shanahan's proclamation that he would stake his reputation on Rex Grossman and John Beck... it sounded ridiculous at the time and it played out exactly that way. Does Gruden really think that none of us saw McCoy play in Cleveland?? McCoy merely happened to play in that game against Dallas a few weeks ago that we won. We didn't win because of him. He was just there. An abnormally good game by our defense was what won that game.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
You're probably playing McCoy hoping you tank it and get a decent shot at a QB like Mariota in the next draft.
On his play, I'd give RG3 more time. But I think he's just in a bad situation in Washington and he's got friction with coaches and teammates. I'm betting he goes somewhere else and makes a decent career for himself.
Considering we're going to be in and around #1 pick, I'm hoping that we see many many more QB needy teams in the coming weeks...

Could be a tough draft for them though, they'll probably either have to give up a huge amount (again) for Mariota, or gamble on being able to keep the Jameis Winston circus on track.sodhat wrote:You're probably playing McCoy hoping you tank it and get a decent shot at a QB like Mariota in the next draft.

What about Griffin to Philly? Would be a good fit for the Chip Kelly offense and don't think they've really found their QB yet. Plus have cap space as well

I so hope we don't take a QB in next year's draft. We've wasted enough picks on them over the years. The time is well overdue for us to be focusing on the real building blocks of a team - O-Line and D-Line and we could defo do with a Safety or two. I wouldn't trust Gruden and Allen with those picks though.

I can definitely see him staying in the NFC East but I think it would be with Dallas. He's definitely finished in Washington. He can't come back from this humiliation and clearly the village idiot that is Jay Gruden doesn't like him. So, if we can't trade him, which I doubt we will be able to, then we'll have to cut him. Given how cursed the Redskins are and how Jerry Jones loves to make a splash, it's almost written in the stars that Griffen will go to Dallas and be successful once they eventually move on from Romo. I almost hope he does and I hope it makes Dan Snyder puke uncontrollably every time he sees him with a star on his helmet.

The Jets will probably be in play too. Imagine RG3 in New Yoiiik...
I think it's showing more and more now that a QB has to be polished mentally as well as in their skill set. They have to be ready to lead by example and with humility.

I don't get why people think Chip's dream is a mobile QB when the 3 QBs on the roster aren't mobile QBs.
His dream QB is one that makes quick smart decisions, gets the ball out and doesn't take unnecessary sacks/turnovers. Being a leader by example helps

The top of the 2012 draft class turning out to be a dumpster fire
Luck - obvs boss
RG3 - just got benched for colt McCoy
Matt Kalil - A turnstile at left tackle
Trent Richardson - can barely build up the speed to get back to the line of scrimmage
Morris Claibourne - huge bust
Justin Blackmon - indefinitely suspended
Mark Barron - just got traded to St Louis for like a 4th rounder.

How good was 2011 draft though.
Cam Newton
Von Miller
Marcell Dareus
AJ Green
Patrick Peterson
Julio Jones
Aldon Smith
Jake Locker - bust
Tyron Smith
Blaine Gabbert - bust
JJ Watt
Christian Ponder - bust
Nick Fairley
Robert Quinn
Mike Pouncey
Only the QB's are busts and other than that Nick Fairley and Cam Newton are the worst players in the top 15 with everyone else in the top 5 at their position.

So, the Colt McCoy era has got off to a great start... 4 of 8 for a whopping 18 yards and he's fumbled twice. Redskins have a whopping 19 yards of total offense and 1 first down through a quarter and a half.
Good job Coach Gruden!
