Is Gennady Golovkin overrated ???
First topic message reminder :
This guy seems to have the ability to dominate the sport................However he is in some lists as high as 3..........Apparently he's already cleaned out the 168 division as well 160..............The guy has beaten Stevens, Geale and Macklin who are all about as dangerous as a wet towel.......and he's 32/33 years old....
The guy has never fought anyone ducked or not.............
He looks impressive but are people getting ahead of themselves...Who should know better...
He's being lauded for beating stiffs....When other fighters are beating better opponents and getting trashed.....Due to being humble no doubt !!
Overrated.........You betcha he is for now !!....But who knows ??

"Maidana shows why Floyd isn't Top 10"...Remember that beauty of an article from Haz...
None of the ATG's dominated the sport at 37 and Mayweather won..
It shows Haz that you shouldn't comment on Floyd...

Thanks!
Floyd doesn't even dominate welterweight never mind the sport!
If Ray Robinson had been allowed to fight twice a year and hand pick his opponents, he'd still be champion today!

Broner?
You mean the guy that struggled and scraped past Paulie M in his only other 147 outing?? (and frankly should have lost if scored/judged correctly)

If anyone's emotionally attached in this ongoing argument, it's the Floyd-ettes.

Re: Is Gennady Golovkin overrated ???
Problem with the Guerrero win for me is that even if you bought into him being top ten in the world at the time (I didn't), surely it was more for his LWW exploits? A look at the Ring P4p has Álvarez at nine, ostensibly for his achievements at 154, and his personal 155 division. If he fought Ward, would anybody really claim that Ward beat a P4Per at 168? I mean, if this is the case, Wlad should offer Kovalev a fight. He'd apparently be beating a very dangerous P4P hitter

Actually his 135 exploits, not even 140.

Add me to the list. I have him around 9 or 10
1.Ali
2.Robinson
3.Armstrong
4.Ezzard Charles
5.willie Pepp
6.Harry Greb
7.Sugar Ray Leonard
8.Roberto Duran
9.Floyd Mayweather
10.Joe Louis
Controversial I know. I would maybe change it tomorrow if I sat down and thought about it.

Find it hard to put a currently active fighter in the top 10 once fighters retire they usually move up in estimations, I would have him top 15 though

Adam, you said yesterday you would have Holmes above Louis at heavy, but do not have him above him in your top ten, I'm confused.

I was on the wind up. I actually think holmes is a better fighter head to head but Louis was champion for 11 years and had 25 defences. I do rate him but rate him far behind Ali.

Dear oh dear.......He wonders why I don't take him seriously....Guerrero was Top 10 like it or not...Macklin wouldn't be in a Top 50.. .
Just stop being silly..
I like how Guerrero is top 10 set in stone as Ring rated him there even though most people didn't, whereas with GGG suddenly other opinions other than Ring Magazine do count and he's wildly over rated as some crackpot has put him up at 3 in their list. Personally I think Guerrero is a very good win for Floyd and there is no one else from Lightweight to Welterweight who will beat Guerrero so convincingly but your logic is a bit absurd.
On a side note has anyone seen the Ring ratings recently? How they have Canelo in there but not Donaire when you look at their body of work over the last few years is beyond me.

Re: Is Gennady Golovkin overrated ???
I suspect that if a first fight in a year Berto could close Guerreros eyes while spending twelve rounds fighting a rather comical rope a dope, Philly shoulder roll tactic... there are probably quite a few fighters who could blow Guerrero out.

Berto for all his flaws is a very decent puncher. Also I can't recall Guerrero ever been put down in a fight seriously, Casamayor put him while he was off balance but that's all I can think of, so it's a bit of a leap to suggest there are quite a few who would blow him out. Thurman probably has the power but is untested at the very top, Manny might do but landed plenty on people like Rios, Clottey and Margarito without stopping them.

I meant blow out in a basketball sense, ie, a pretty clear, one Sided defeat. Whether by UD or KO, hence mentioning the fact that he got blinded by Berto who was fighting a very strange fight.

Re: Is Gennady Golovkin overrated ???
Just a warning: Failure to acknowledge Floyd's opponents as
"top ten p4p types" will result in some severe dolly throwing.
These poor saps eat and drink this GBP propaganda (pretty cruel to burst their bubble and yeah - there isn't a single expert/historian/ writer worth their salt who supports their view but they're WRONG and you'd be an idiot for even reading them).
Just make up your own minds (meaning agree with TRUSS).

For all we know, that crackpot is Truss. Or his imagination at least.
As he's never been able to show where he got that idea from, nobody has seen him listed at #3 in any list.
