Cockerill on simulation Empty Cockerill on simulation

Post by Geordie Fri Oct 03, 2014 9:01 am

Mr Cockerill has had a rant about potential diving increasing in the sport.

I for one cant bare the thought of that...and ANY diving should be seriously reprimanded to stamp it out immediately.

This sport doesnt need diving!

Cockers wrote:Cockerill leapt upon one comment about the incident from the officials, following the match report being delivered to the RFU, that the punch was not intense enough for Gibson to require treatment and consequently received a lesser punishment.

Cockers wrote:One of the comments that alarmed me the most is that Gibson didn't need treatment and didn't go to the floor

To be honest, that really does annoy me. A punch is a punch and thats it.

True Ozzy but in this case i actually think he has a point and we need to make sure diving and stuff doesnt take hold in this great game of ours.

Diving in football didn't just majically appear because they're all wusses. It happened to highlight illegal interferance ( Wink ) with players. Shirt pulling, barging, etc. In rugby, if you get blocked and just try and work your way around then it's less likely to be penalised. If you run into them and flop on the floor the same illegal activity is more likely to be penalised. The reason that happens is because minor illegal activity is ignore to keep the game flowing, which is effectively licensed cheating. I'm a bit draconian but I would give a week ban for every pull back of a player off the ball. For every cheeky hand the ruck. For every cynical cheating act that get's missed by the refs.

Then there is the other type of diving where nothing actually happened. That's just Poopie.

To be fair, you do bleat yourself almost as much. Some really good things to say but at times wonderfully myopic and chippy.

Now as well as Cockers (and you and me) that last sentence I guess could describe most of us.

Oh and frankly I felt that Gibson got what he deserved.

Chippy I'll take LT, most definitely not the first time I've been called that!  Laugh

Myopic, not so sure on, not something I've ever been accused of being in the past, but I shan't take it personally.   Wink

The fact of the matter Diving is starting to happen more and more in rugby.

So I think he has a point although not the one he intended I think.

His wasn't a dive, there was a strong wind blowing and it would have blown his hair out of place if he hadn't of fallen down Cockerill on simulation 3559488474

His reaction afterwards was great, as he'd realised just how stupid he looked!

I won't comment on the Gibson incident because I haven't seen it. However, Cockers is right whether those who dislike him agree or not. The precedent set by the RFU disciplinary panel encourages players to hit the deck and receive treatment.

It should be as simple as did he throw a punch? Yes, did it connect? Yes, Ok was it under provocation? Yes then yellow and review the provocation for a card as well. If no provocation then it's a red card particularly if the player is prone or unsighted when struck. If theopen chains doesn't connect penalty and warning only. We don't want the game to go soft but at the same time we want games of rugby not fist fights.

not at all bothered about simulation creeping into the game? Or is it ok because it was an incident against your team?
