Palmero tonight, I am expecting them to go with a 4-2-3-1 playing a high tempo game. I've gone to neutralise that with a midfield that will look to break play, get into tackles and slow them down and not allow them to get a rhythm going in midfield. Key man Perisic is out which is a major blow to Palmero. We will look to slow the game down but when we get the ball get it quickly to our forwards.
DEFENSIVE TACTICS
Ayhan to pick up the main striker do not let him settle on the ball, Terry to sit deeper picking up any spare man or covering for Ayhan. FB to show their wingers outside so they're forced to cross if they do come inside midfielders will close the gap. De Jong and Kramer are playing a little higher so they can apply pressure further up the pitch allowing us to then get into their box quicker, get tackles in, close them down while Ledesma will jockey and follow his man. Mirallas and Son to track back the FB.
ATTACKING TACTICS
Only one FB to push up at a time, force the wingers back with your runs making them defend, give us width by hugging the touchline and get constant balls into the box. Ledesma playing deep to keep the ball ticking for us and always passing it sometimes hit it long to Mirallas/Son to get in behind the defence. De Jong and Kramer take turns going forward and keep it simple with your passes playing a pass and move system. Mirallas and Son use your pace running at the defenders, play narrow so you're closer to Totti and so we can overload their defence putting them under pressure. Totti vary your game go forward to hold the line and at times drop deeper linking up with play. Always stay on the move trying to either create a goal or score a goal.

PALERMO:
vs GetafeUjkaniMusacchio – Coloccini - KongoloBeck --------------------------------------------- PasqualSchneiderlin -------------- PardoCanalesEmenike ------- Musa
Overview
We’re changing formation today with the deliberate aim of targeting our opposition through the middle where they are relatively pedestrian and slow. We’ll use tempo and movement through the middle to try and prise them open while guarding against their main threat on the wings with wingbacks augmented by 3 centre backs.
Defence
Coloccini is the lynchpin and will mark their main forward.
The two outside centre halves will be play zonally and be responsible for covering behind the wing backs to keep their dangerous wingers at bay. They’ll have to fight off both defenders to impact the game.
Schneiderlin is the deep midfielder and will be responsible for tracking runs from the midfield and disrupting their AM/CMs with interceptions and pressure.
Both wing backs are there to close down the wingers quickly and isolate them. They are the oppositions biggest threat in my opinion.
Attack
Pardo will sit in the middle and dictate the tempo and flow on the ball, always available.
Wing backs will have a licence to get forward and get the ball across, but they can’t stray too high and leave our centre halves exposed completely. Smart attacks only.
Canales will be the conduit between the midfield and attack and will feed the two forwards.
Emenike is going to stay high and occupy defenders with his pace and power, making runs and wearing them down. They’re not very fast and we’re looking to exploit that.
Musa is played through the centre and he too will use his pace and dribbling ability to scare the back four and take them on. He’s capable of a spectacular goal or two so when not linking with Emenike he can take a crack.
Getafe 0-2 Palermo
Emenike, Musa.
Felt that the Palermo set-up was perfect for the way that Getafe were set-up and there was only one winner. Getafe went very narrow with ball winners in the middle, but Palermo saw it coming and matched up to them. Getafe went three narrow up top, but Palermo had three at the back to counter this. So it came down to the flanks and with the Getafe wingers playing narrow, it left space for the Palermo wing backs to get forward on to the FBs and really take advantage.
Getafe good points: Ayhan looks a good partner alongside Terry and the wingers are the definite plus point. It was just one of those unlucky weeks where the two formations favoured the opposition.
Getafe bad points: Got plenty of bite and good guile in midfield, but need to add a bit of drive as it was all a bit one paced and pedestrian.
Palermo good points: Whether deliberate or chance, the set-up was perfect to counter and beat what Getafe were trying to achieve. Nice combination up front too.
Palermo bad points: Although it worked this week, not sure Pasquel is cut out to be an effective WB, and against a team set-up less in your favour, you could lack threat on the left hand side

BORDEAUX:
-------------Carrasso
---Manolas--Laporte -- Orban
Jung ---Alonso --Jojic ---Tremoulinas
-----Narsingh -----Quintero
--------------Drogba
Subs: Olimpa,Chalme,Lucas,Vidal,El Ghazi,Bojan,McGeady
Team Talk: We're up against the tactically smart ass GSC and his Verona side who tend to favor to 4-4-2 diamond so we're looking to counter with lots of width from full backs and inside wingers to make runs between full back/centre backs.
Defensive Tactics
- Back 3/5 to sit deep when without the ball to stop Sturridge using his pace in behind.
- Laporte to pick up Sturridge and Manolas to pick up the 2nd forward and look to get tight to the pair of them
- Orban to look for Sterling/AM running from deep and look to get to him before he can shoot
- Jung/Tremoulinas to tuck inside to force them down the wings to make them cross into our land of tall people.
- Alonso to screen infront of the defense & Jojic to get close to the AM when he gets the ball
Attacking Tactics
- Jung/Tremoulinas to get up the pitch and overlap the inside forwards and whip balls in for Drogba
- Alonso to dictate play from deep and look to get the ball into Quintero or out to a winger
- Jojic to make late runs into the box from deep and pose a goal threat
- Narsingh/Quintero to cut inside from their wings and look to make runs between RB/CB & CB/LB with pace, Quintero will look to drift into an AM style role and look to create chances
- Drogba to back into Mascherano as he is 5ft 7, so look to dominate him with your physical presence and attack him in the air at cross as your have an advantage. If they try force up the pitch them drop into an AM role and look to play the Inside Forwards in behind.
Subs: Quintero from McGeady if losing to get more pace in the side.
- Verona:
VERONA:
HowardJanmaat-Reid-Davies-Van AanholtBehrami-MascheranoHendersonSterling------ZarateSturridgeTactics:We're going to continue our tactics of targetting the wings with pace that has paid off for us so far, and we've named two DMs to give our FBs greater freedom to push forward in this area and really push that advantage home. Sterling and Zarate should play more infield than traditional wingers, with the FBs providing addition width on the touchline. As ever, maintain a high tempo, use it to unsettle the opposition and keep them on their toes.Attacking:Again, Sterling and Zarate to play somewhat tucked inside, give the DMs a dilemma and try and pull them out of position. FBs provide overlaps often and give width to the attack, making the opposition defend the entire field. Sturridge look to run the channels, their FBs might come up to play the wingers, or pull wider to cover the FBs, either way attack the space left behind. Sterling and Zarate run at the defender. Our play goes through Henderson who looks to push forward and provide support through the middle, as well as spreading the ball around. Hes our lynchpin today.Defending:Henderson sit on Alonso, get in his face unsettle him, rough him up etc. Don't give him time to get his head up. Sterling and Zarate should look to drop onto any other CMs. Don't want the wingers to track their FBs if they go forward, we have DMs to cover and they'll leave space behind. Behrami and Masch to cover off the FBs if they get forward, otherwise cut out traffic through the middle, both to roam rather than pick up targets. FBs show the wingers inside if there are any, its plenty congested centrally so they shouldn't find room.
Bordeaux 1-1 Verona
(Quintero - Sturridge)
A hard game to call as Nando really put a shift in with his tactics and against a lesser team would certainly have come away with a victory. GSCs team though oozes class, I feel a lot revolves around Henderson with GSCs team, very defensive players behind him and with him also having to do a number on Alonso it then restricts them linking up play so fluidly shifting from defence to attack.

- Granada:
GRANADA:
Formation: 4-5-1 (4-3-2-1)Buffon
Caceres - Vlaar - Alderweireld - Bernat
Motta - Xavi - Marrone
Brahimi ---------------------------- Januzaj
Berardi
Subs: Fernandez, Fabinho, Veltman, Klaassen, Streller
Overview: Marky's played 4-4-2 in his last two matches and has had success so I think he'll stick with it, hence my formation for today's game. I'm going to attack Marky down the wings as I feel in Ward-Prowse & Holtby he lacks proper 4-4-2 wingers and look to catch his FBs out of position on the break. The other aim of my formation is to break up the Pirlo - Clasie partnership. In Xavi we have a man who's equal, if not better, on the ball and alongside him are two enforcers who will win the ball back and get it out wide..
Defence: I'm going to try out zonal marking today which means neither of my CBs should be sucked into following strikers and thus being dragged out of position. Marrone and Motta should look for any inside runs made by Montpellier wingers (or AMs) and get stuck into them. When we're on the back foot I want them to drop back, essentially creating a back 6 with Xavi just ahead. The most important thing is to not be dragged out of position. Maintain focus and watch the ball, not the man. My FBs should look to force the Montpellier wingers outside and force them to cross the ball or alternatively work with the DMs in a pincer movement to win the ball back. I also want a but of defensive work from the wingers but sit on the halfway line, ready for the counter.
Attack: I'm wanting to see 4 or 5 men getting forward on the break (Berardi, the wingers and 1 or 2 FBs) and really have a go at them down the wings. When we go forward, Motta and Marrone should look to cover gaps left by the FBs in preparation for a counter attack. His FBs will try to make my wingers cut inside so when going forward I want to see a partnership between my FBs and wingers. The FB will go down the touchline and then play a pass inside to my wingers, who will then either look for Berardi or have a pop. Whichever side we're attacking down, I want to the opposite winger coming into the middle to look for the ball. I want to see Berardi standing "in the hole", looking for through balls or crosses from the wings. Do not be forced deep by his CBs.
Subs:
If losing on 50 mins or after, Motta off and Streller on - flat 4-4-2 with Berardi & Streller up front.
80 mins: Brahimi off, Klaassen on.

MONTPELLIER:
----------------Speroni
Yedlin - San Jose - Dominguez - Willems
-----------------Clasie
--------Ward-Prowse - Holtby
----------------Kagawa
--------------Origi - Eto'o
Subs: Geoffrey Jourdren, Jon Flanagan, Nicolas Isimat-Mirin, Andrea Pirlo, Seydou Keita, Viktor Fischer, Zakaria Bakkali
Tough game today against Granada, I expect them to target Pirlo so we're throwing a curveball and resting the Italian. Playing a 4-4-2 diamond with Clasie at the base, Ward-Prowse and Holtby either side as both have the ability to play wider and centrally, and Kagawa at the tip of the diamond. Origi and Eto'o to continue their plan of going at the opposition's defence and creating a series of problems. Ball retention is key but I want us to be more direct today, give Kagawa the time and space to cause problems and utilise the two strikers to get at their defence.
Defence: Speroni to stay big for one on ones and distribute to Clasie. San Jose to track their striker, beat him to any passes towards him and force him to drop deeper to frustrate him, Dominguez to be the first to any second balls. If they play a second striker, Dominguez to mark him and Clasie to track any AM. In possession supply Clasie. Yedlin and Willems to overlap the wingers going forward and get crosses into the front two. Make sure you get back into position ASAP to avoid being caught out. Defensively force their wingers wide and block the crosses. Don't let them cut inside.
Midfield: Clasie sit infront of the back four, get the ball and look to supply the front four. Ward-Prowse and Holtby will play wide in the diamond so they are able to switch from playing alongside Clasie when we're defending, but in possession be the ones who provide the width, linking with Kagawa and the strikers. Kagawa to play as our AM, drift left and right and deeper to drag their DM out of position and look to supply the strikers with plenty of opportunities.
Attack: Eto'o/Origi to mark the deepest Granada defender, use your height and pace to worry their defenders, drift wide to drag defenders with you, to allow Ward-Prowse/Holtby/Kagawa to make runs down the middle into space for Clasie to pick them out. Both of you more than capable of scoring and assisting, so get shots in where you can and look for your teammate in a better position. Switch positions on occasion to keep the Granada players guessing and drag them out of position.
Subs 70 mins:
If winning: Origi and Kagawa off, Pirlo and Keita on. Switch to 4-5-1 with Keita an extra DM, Clasie and Pirlo alongside and forming a midfield three, Ward-Prowse/Holtby to wide midfield. Absorb pressure then look for Eto'o on the counter.
--------------------Speroni
--Yedlin - San Jose - Dominguez - Willems
Ward-Prowse - Keita - Pirlo - Clasie - Holtby
---------------------Eto'o
If drawing: Ward-Prowse off, Pirlo on. Revert to the 4-2-2-2 system that served us well, Kagawa to RAM with Holtby at LAM, push for the win.
----------------Speroni
Yedlin - San Jose - Dominguez - Willems
--------------Pirlo - Clasie
-----Kagawa ------------- Holtby
--------------Origi - Eto'o
If losing: Willems, Ward-Prowse and Clasie off, Fischer, Pirlo and Bakkali on. Change to 3-1-4-2; Push for goals.
--------------Speroni
---Yedlin - San Jose - Dominguez
---------------Pirlo
Bakkali - Kagawa - Holtby - Fischer
------------Origi - Eto'o
(Berardi) (Kagawa, Eto’o)
This match starts out very level with both sides being extremely organised until Eto’o breaks through in the 45 minute to put Montpellier ahead before half time. In the second half Granada start strongly with Berardi managing to get in on goal and he puts the ball in the back of the net. Late on in the match, Kagawa finds some space in the midfield area and bends one in from the edge of the area.
Feedback: A good quality showing from both sides with plenty of talent on show. Montpellier have a really nice set up and I thought it was a brave step leaving Pirlo out of the game considering how much he can influence games but its amazing how much quality they have even without Pirlo. I think that one of the positive things for Granada is having Xavi in midfield behind Berardi as I feel this is what got them the goal today, someone with his passing ability is bound to get assists and that is what happened today. I did like the Granada formation however I feel with the space in between Xavi and Beradi this is where the midfield of Montpellier can make most things happen.

Genk vs PAOK
Genk 1-1 PAOK
Welbeck---Valdivia
PAOK played to get at the Genk midfield who played with 2 in midfield and it worked for most of the game allowing them to control the midfield. Valdivia found space in the middle of the park to drive at the defence scoring a solo. Genk attacking mainly from the right got a goal with Welbeck at the back post to poke past the keeper from an Elia cross.
Genk Good Point: Barzagli, Toulalan and Ibrahimovic are a good spine to build a side around.
Genk Bad Point: I feel they need to improve out wide with this formation
PAOK Good Point: The midfield looks strong and will dominate against others this season.
PAOK Bad Point: Olly could have got all 3 points if he added to his tactics.

TACTICS
This week we are up against PAOK who are improving. However, we fancy our chances in this game and are going to play an attacking side. We will focus our attacking down the right hand side, with Aurier and Elia looking to double up on their left back and can take it in turns cutting inside, making things difficult. We will look to get Welbeck into the box, as the second striker as we will not be attacking down the left flank, and on the occasions we do, Welbeck should still stay infield with Evra providing the width. Ibrahimovic should look to use his height advantage over both centre backs (assuming Stones-Marquez) to win the headers.
Defensively, Barzagli should look to lead the backline, which will be well shielded by Toulalan and Diaz. It is essential Gerrard and Grenier are not allowed any time on the ball, as they are the players that came make things happen. I want the front three players to stay as high up the pitch as possible, to prevent them getting their full backs forward. If they try to then we will outnumber them three vs two.

Tactic - Tactic is simple today we are looking to outnumber them in midfield and hoping to get Valdivia the ball in space behind there midfield so he can turn and run at a defence that will be occupied by two strikers. We will press high, very high, we have the pace at the back to deal with them, look to force mistakes in there half. Full backs have a tough assignment one on one but its the job of the sided midfielder to slide across and help I'd needed. Strikers make clever runs and finish your chances.

- Bremen:
- ----------------Wolf------------------
Selassie – Prodl – Martinez – Cole
--------------Stambouli---------------
------Maher-------------Vilhena-------
Kishna-------Kiessling------Montero
Attacking Tactics: I want our attacks to be fast and pacey today, we are up against a strong Twente team who are also quick and our aim is going to be to attack them as much as we can without being exposed at the back which is why the full backs will stay back as much as possible to provide the defensive block but at the same time I want Kishna and Montero to push on almost as high up the pitch as Keissling but in the wide areas instead, always looking to get the ball into the box for Kiessling to get on the end of. Vilhena you and Maher will be the 2 players who push on the most from the central midfield areas being the controllers of the games speed and I want you to look to project the ball out into the wide areas for Montero and Kishna or look to play Keissling in.
Defensive Tactics: As mentioned above I want us to have a good solid defensive block today because I expect Twente to attack us especially if Alacer plays who will most probably look to get in behind and beyond our defensive line. Stambouli you will sit and hold a position of protection ahead of the defensive line and look to recover the ball and move it forward when you can. Make yourself available by making plenty of movement in and around your area of operation, this position will be important today as we will have players pushing forward quickly most of the time. Martinez and Prodl watch the runs of their wide players aswell as the chosen striker and be on your toes ready to intercept the ball at every opportunity.

Team talk
This week up against Miky who usually goes with one holding midfielder and then a very attacking minded 4 in front of them. As a result this week we'll play a tighter game, contain his midfield and look to hit them on the counter when they're over exposed. Invite, soak then exploit.
Defence
A back four with Badstuber given the role of picking up the main striker as they enter threatening positions, be aware of their movement but ensure you don't get dragged out of position. Rojo to assist where required but to pick up threats from their wingers/AM etc if they break into the danger zone. Fullbacks to shepherd their wingers on the outside, no rash challenges and going to ground, slow their attacks down and block crosses. Rabiot main defensive of midfield trio, look to stay back when our FBs go forward.
Attack
Calhanoglu to play in the hole linking up defence to attack. Look to get some early shots in on goal and put their keeper under pressure early whilst Carvalho is given remit to go box to box when he builds up a head of steam. Wingers to alternate between coming inside with through balls to McCormick and going wide to stretch their backline. McCormick to really use his physical strength to bully the centrebacks, go toe to toe with them and let them know who's the daddy. All forward options to put a shift in on chasing balls down and forcing their defence to play it out early. Invite clumsy tackles and go down easily in areas of danger so Calhanoglu can smash one home.
Bremen 1-1 Twente
(Kiessling) (Balde Diao)
A very close game as I see Bremen having the better attacking options and Twente controlling the midfield. Twente control and dictate the tempo which sees them limit the impact of Bremen's attack, and they take a lead in the first half when Calhanoglu played in Balde Diao to slot past Wolf. However as the game goes on the harder it is for Twente's defence to keep Bremen's attack at bay, even with Carvalho patrolling the back four, Kiessling gets the better of Badstuber and ruthlessly finishes. It's a decent point for Bremen, but I think Twente will see it as points dropped as with a better striker than McCormick upfront they may have earned the win.
