Hopkins wins...He should lose !!

We can't have a guy over 50 being allowed to fight no matter how good he is........The guy is a danger to himself and to other 40+ types that may look up to him and want to emulate him...but lack the smarts....

50, 51, 52.... The guy ain't gonna stop and the joke will keep on going at Boxing's expense...

Shame on any State that agrees to let him fight after Kovo........Win or lose..

If he beats kovalev he has to fight Stevenson. Unless of course he wants to retire.

The danger is that he gets a little delusional, a significant beat downm if it were to occur, would probably have a much worse effect on a 50 year old.

It's like a gambler, effectively all the y are doing is looking to lose as they never know when to call it a win

Genuinely think Hopkins is astute enough to know what it's time to call it quits. He's been winning these kind of matches for so long it can't just be down to luck, can it? Hopkins and his team know enough to assess the risks and make a decision based on their observations and when they think there's nowhere left to turn, they'll call it a day.

Clearly this can't come soon enough for some people though (mind you it's this narrow minded thinking that would have had the likes of Ryan Giggs retiring at 32 years old)

You can't assess the risks can you........It's Boxing the older you get the harder it is for the body to recover...........Hopkins is a unique case..

32 is close to 50 is it ??

Tell you what, if Hopkins was involved in fights that didn't descend into headbutts and tangos I think he'd probably have more than just grudging respects.
If a fifty year old light heavyweight was consistently drug tested, I'd happily join the Hoppo bandwagon. As it is he picks and chooses when he gets tested after the fights, which you'd think would be mandatory.

I'm full of admiration for him fighting at the top level at 49..........Drugs or no drugs..

Just don't think he should be..........Because it isn't healthy.

In relative terms, a footballer at 32 is considered as "past it" as a boxer is at 40 and a footballer puts his body through more rigors on a regular basis than a fighter generally does. Giggs, like Hopkins, is a relatively unique case although Frank Worthington was playing long past his supposed sell-by date and ex-Wimbledon keeper Dave Beasant was recent on the bench at the age of 55.

Hopkins was going to retire at 40 and decided he felt he had enough left to offer (which he's proved time and again) but many thought he should have quit a decade ago. However, Hopkins isn't taking beatings like Jones, Mosley and even younger guys like Katsidis (who's still fighting) so who are you to dictate when he should and shouldn't retire?

The fact your own body is now pretty much frigged should have no bearing on Hopkins' decision to fight on.

the reality is as long as he is winning, and people are still buying his fights there is everychance he will continue.

One of those coming to an end will be the reason he stops, before he or his team decide enoughs enough.

Don't really "admire" drugs or no drugs... I'd like to think I'm watching two guys who've put their absolute best into a sport... not a chemistry arms race.

Does that make what I've said any less valid? Whether I've pulled those figures from an official survey or from the crack of my ar$e, most people consider footballers at the highest level to be done and dusted by the time they're in their 30's (Gerrard is about ready to be consigned to the scrapheap at 34 by some factions and recently Paul Scholes reckoned Rooney has peaked at 29).

Footballers in lower leagues may well play to a decent standard but none of them are playing in the Champions League Final or contesting the World Cup are they? Talking about different levels, son!

It is less valid because you can play football at a high standard at 32 in the higher leagues and not get hurt..

Whereas you shouldn't be Boxing in any league at 40+ because the body finds it harder to recover from a slapping and you are in more danger of long term disability..

Just because Boxing is full of useless young crud......Doesn't/Shouldn't make it okay !!

I don't understand this argument. Are we saying if Hoppo fights arguably the no.1 fighter in his division and beats him fair and square ( with Hoppo there may be some debate ), anyone that gives him permission to defend his title would be a disgrace on the grounds he's exposed a younger fighter and other grown men who fight for a living need some sort of "parental control" filter courtesy of boxing boards in case they copy him?

If Hopkins beats Kov and any board of control stopped him fighting on those grounds I think we can safely say a few questions might be asked regarding sanity.

I see what your saying about age truss but come on, if he's the best ( for the record I think he will lose ) you can't blame him for making boxing look bad, it IS bad, Hoppo's presence or not,  and you can't punish or blame him for it.

Hoppo has been upsetting the apple cart for years now and for that he deserves great credit. Every fight he has had over the last 5 years was meant to be "the one" that father time finally caught up with him. His ring craft , although very boring and negative has always managed to pull him through...up to now.

I think Kovalev will finally be the one that catches up with Hopkins. It wont be a pretty fight and I expect it to be very close but Kovalev is ruthless and pretty savage. I think he's going to hurt Hopkins sooner or later and when he smells blood I think he has the power to stop Hopkins spoiling and finally close the show.

Don't see the issue on the age thing.

Most people who were to box at 50 would get a beating and think it isn't a good idea, Hopkins wins at 50 so should eb allowed to continue until he decides to retire.

I would agree that people over 50 shouldn't fight, Hopkins is however an exception.

When you consider the stories of many boxers starting when they are 11 / 12 and have someone like Alvarez who had fought something stupid like 500 amateur fights by the time he was 8 I would say that there can be issues at both ends of the spectrum.

Truss, you mention it isn't good for someone who is nearly 50 to be getting punched in the head - it isn't healthy for anyone to get punched in the head regardless of age.
