I have a feeling the rain's going to get in the way for the remainder of the test.
Ian Bell would be my pick too get big runs in this match.

Can see KP making runs in this match though with all the hype that's been surrounding him going into this match.
Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
If he doesnt there may well be some serious question marks over his place with some good youngsters coming through, like hildreth and taylor.

Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
Jimmy Anderson out for a few weeks with a side strain, won't bowl in the second innings and likely won't play in the 2nd test.

Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
mate i dont support any particular side as such simply bcoz i dont care who wins as long as they keep producing excellent young talents.i watch county cricket to watch individual talents who i think have the potential to play for england.so as long as the talented players play well and make a case for selection i dont care if a particular team wins or loses.
what will be ur england odi team for the summer?

Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
no reason to pick bell over taylor.he has been given enough chances and has failed time and time again in odi cricket although there is no doubt that he is an excellent test player.taylor has got an amazing record in all forms of the game and should be given his chance.
liam
if trott isnt an odi player then neither is bell.not only bell's average but also his odi s/r is comfortably inferior to that of trott.
and taylor has got the best list a record by a mile much better than hildreth.so taylor has to be there.i would stick with trott.i think we need a reliable run scorer and he is our most reliable player.i would play taylor at 5 instead of bell.
anderson is our most precious commodity in the test team.and we have got a test series against the world no 1 side this summer.so i would rest jimmy from the odis this summer.7 tests are enough for him.
i think bresnan bowled well in the wc and deserves a chance to prove himself ahead of woakes who although an outstanding first class bowler doesnt have a great list A record.

Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
I was very close to putting Dernbach into my team as every time ive seen or heard about him he has been very impressive, and i'm sure corpral will back me up on that.

Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
Indeed Mr Scotland. Until this season I did not think Dernbach was an international bowler or that he had the potential to become one. His performances for Surrey this season have been rather mixed.
What he does have is the ability to mix it up and he also has a well disguised slower ball. He's also showed up well playing in effect for England seconds. If I was a selector I would have him in mind for T20 but I think I would want to see a bit more before including him in the longer forms of the game.

Anderson goes early for England.
Anyone else agree that Night Watchmen are pointless?

Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
He's batted slowly but well.
Trott for me is Englands best batsman at the moment with Cook not too far behind. Cook's only 26 aswell so will have plenty of years to improve and not only become England's best batter but maybe even the worlds.

Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
One thing I worried going into this series was his consistency. He would have one good series but then the next play terrible but the early signs in this are he's going to have two back to back excellent series'.

Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
Could be a hundred for both these batsmen with none of the sri lankan bowlers offering any threat.

Sri Lanka look like there missing Muralitharan.
Spinners just don't seem to be doing anything on this pitch.

Cook and Trott make there 100 partnership last bowl before tea.
Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
Cook should defintely be on for a hundred now with very little threat from the sri lankans.

The way things are going I can see these two batting it out till the end of the day.
Sri Lanka need a burst of life but I don't see where it's going to come from.
