Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
Bell is such a good batsman to watch when he's playing well, beautiful classical batting. England's 350 up but they need to get to at least 500 by the close to force something you'd have thought...

Pietersen has now been out 43 times to a left arm spinner in all international fixtures, and he says there is no problem....

England seem to have gone right back into their shell, it's quite puzzling...

Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
SL ground fielding has been comically bad at times. Not been very impressed by them TBH, batting was pretty good but bowling and fielding is awful, and such a negative mindset...

Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
yeah nice innings by Bell, I wish England would have a go though, there's no way they can lose from here, but if they can get a decent lead quickly they could just put some pressure on SL tomorrow...

I agree even though a result is very unlikely they should look to play for on erather than just what they are doing now.

Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
To be fair, SL have been unbelievably ngative throughout the day, but 'd like to see more intent from England. Maybe in the last hour? The pitch has been misbehaving slightly and SL could collapse, you never know...

But they do have to make the 400 first then get a hundred put and stick the sri lankans into bat.

England showing a bit of intent here, Trott now has the highest score for England vs Sri Lanka, courtesy of a lovely on-drive for four.

England ticking along very nicely now, makes you wonder why they didn't do this a bit earlier really;..

Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
Closing in on another double hundred is Trott great knock, in the future he might get the all time score record if england visit the right sub continent side at the right time on the right pitch vs an average attack.

Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
Filthy negative bowling from SL, but Bell brings out the reverse sweep and gets four, good batting.

Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
and another, Dilshan persisting with his outside leg stump line with a 6-3 leg side field, so Bell switches around and slams it through mid wicket (or cover) for four, good stuff...

Another big partnership from England.
Wonder how long before they decide to declare?

KP hasnt a clue against slow bowlers has he? Add the left arm in to the equation and he just falls apart.
I think he has a mental block right now - he seems unable to determine line OR length when it comes from the left hand. I never thought I would hear myself say this - but he does needs some one on one tuition with a technically correct batting coach - let Boycott take him away into the nets for a week or two (an added advantage may well be that the Yorkshireman would then be missing from the TMS box for a while).

Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
Trott gone, the negative tactics work as he gets frustrated and backs away, has a slash and is bowled leg stump. Fantastic innings, and an unselfish dismissal too.

Bell on 98 not out at the close, England lead by 91, will they go out there and bat for a little bit tomorrow, maybe half an hour?

I think they'll declare on 500. Let Bell gets his century and Morgan smash a few shots.

Eugh forecast for tomorrow looks absolutely horrid, but hopefully they get out there for at least long enough for Bell to get his ton...

He does have a problem, but the reason that he has such bad statistics against left armers is because whenever he comes in the other team bring the SLA's on at once. Therefore he is moer likely to get out against them.

Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
if we can score 100 more runs this morning, then declare with lead of 200, chcuck swann the ball on turning wicket and see if we maybe can sneak vicotry, but will be difficult.

Forecast looks bad I doubt where going to get the full amount of overs. Victory looking even more unlikely.
Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
Never know though victorys not impossible.

Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
Say England only have 2 or so hours to play I think they should continue batting. They arn't going to bowl out Sri Lanka in half a day with a 3 man attack.
Let Bell get his century and Prior and Morgan hit a few shots.

Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
If there's not much play then England should bat on and tire out the SL bowlers, give Morgan a chance to make a few runs, Bell his hundred obviously.

Re: England vs Sri Lanka 1st test debate
Ian Ward says that the players will be out in a hour and a half if it stops raining. Thats a big IF alot of rain forecast today.
