The Best and Worst Wrestling Names
Morning all,
On one of my frequent browses of Wikipedia, I came across the best wrestling name I have seen:
'Sexton Hardcastle'
And the man who used to wrestle under that name? 11-time world champion, Edge. I would have stuck with Sexton personally.
Any other weird and wonderful wrestling monikers you can list?

Re: The Best and Worst Wrestling Names
Terra Ryzing – I wonder if Trips would have become as big with that play on words.
Texas Red, The Master of Pain – Not quite as catchy or memorable as The Undertaker, though Punisher Dice Morgan doesn’t really cut it either.
Would Sterling Golden, The Super Destroyer or Terry Boulder have become the biggest name ever in the industry (Hulk Hogan)
If you smellllll what the Flex Kavana is cookin’ isn’t quite as catchy.

Why did JR go through a phase of calling The Undertaker “Big Booger Red”?
I'm going to put that on the Ask The Tart thread too

Irwin R Schyster. I mean come on, what are the chances that your initials are IRS and you play a taxman!
Henry O Godwin - HOG. Come on now, this must be fate. What are the chances.
But the best of all has to be....
Justin Credible. AMAZING. You are killing me now. What a name!

Re: The Best and Worst Wrestling Names
Kane as 'Issac Yankem DDS' when he was Jerry Lawler's dentist was another absurd one.
I remember seeing Terra Ryzin, Hero, and thinking that HHH got rather fortunate that he shed that one. But thinking on it, Hunter Hearst Helmsley is hardly the best ring name I could imagine.

“Triple H” is actually a stupid name – but for some reason it works. It shouldn’t though – it sounds like a battery size.

When Nigel McGuiness first debuted in TNA i thought Desmond Wolfe was a terrible name, but i grew to like it.

The Ringmaster? You might as well called him the "Wrestling God"
Considering Austins real surname is Williams, I think he was lucky that there was already Dr Death Steve Williams, hence the change of surname.
Stone Cold Steve Williams doesn't really work as well. But I suppose like a few posts have said above, it don't sound right, but then you get used to it and then it does.

Re: The Best and Worst Wrestling Names
Chris Jericho was almost Christian Chris Irvine, Cowboy Chris Jericho, He-man AND Chris Power. Thank God he liked Helloween is all I can say (Great band by the way, check them out.)
Brian Pillman being Flying Brian wasn't too bad, but it wasn't very good either. He could have made an entire career out of the Loose Cannon gimmick...if only he'd started working everyone sooner...
Sandman becoming Hardcore Hak was cringeworthy...mainly because I never imagined Sandman wrestling for Bischoff.
One Man Gang to Akeem...what were they thinking? Great name to rubbish name in one segment.
Red Rooster, 'nuff said.
Doink and Dink...not necessarily bad names but I was so scared of clowns that I punched one square in the nuts as a kid...they never scared me after that funilly enough 8)
The Ringmaster's been mentioned but my God it was awful. They should have seen that Austin didn't need a gimmick, he was one! That said, even Ringmaster's better than Chilly Mcfreeze.
Mankind was almost Mason the Mutilator. Seriously.

Re: The Best and Worst Wrestling Names
Lance Storm once said he regretted giving himself a name that couldn't naturally be turned into a chant. I've never been keen on one-syllable names for that reason.
TNA is particularly bad for wrestler names. Abyss, Crimson and Suicide sound like PPVs from the dying days of WCW. When I heard Gunner and Murphy's names for the first time I imagined someone backstage saying "Quick, think of two names!". I know there is a reason Gunner is called Gunner, but couldn't he have added a surname?!
A lot of my favourite names ever are from the 80s: Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Ravishing Rick Rude, "Macho Man" Randy Savage. Going back a bit further, Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse "The Body" Ventura were great names.

The Miz was the nickname he was known by before he wrestled though so they just carried on using it

I instanlty liked it seeing as it was a 'Withail and I' reference. It makes me picture Nigel McGuiness staggering around the countryside drunk going, 'What do you think to Desmond Wolf? I'm thinking of changing my name', and then goes and does it!
I've always thought Mike Quackenbush to be a ridiculous name.

Nearly every new wrestler have "real" names now, except Sin Cara. But some might think thats a real name considering its Spanish.

R-Truth anybody? I like the idea of 'The Truth' being a nickname but R-Truth is a pretty awful name.
Ken Kennedy was also pretty dreadful, in fact now I think about it with a name like that it's a wonder how he managed to become credible at all.

I never really bought into him in the WWE, I don't watch TNA so I can't really comment on in him in there, although the little I have seen I'm still not convinced he's that amazing on the mic.

Bobby"The Brain" Heenan.
I loved the name Powers of Pain(warlord & Barbarian).
Also Demolition,(although smash becoming The Repo Man was pretty poor).
Mr Perfect wins hands down as a great name, he lived up to it well.
The 1-2-3 Kid was a poor name.

He does nothing for me. I've always thought he looks a bit "special". I could imagine him in overalls volunteering at a garden centre. Also he's a pretty dull wrestler.

When I tweeted the question someone replied back that at an indy show there was a wrestler called ‘Mayn Event’, that's quality!

Re: The Best and Worst Wrestling Names
Good:
Demolition were probably the best Ax and Smash
Autobot Rufus - What they were going to call Stone Cold Steve Austin before he decided on his own name.
When Austin was asked about that name he said "well if they'd of insisted on calling me it, I would of been the best damn Autobot Rufus anyone would of saw"!
Bad:
The Body Donnas - Skip and Zip! were terrible names.

Sin Cara is Spanish for 2 faces or something I think.
I remember bret hart was originally going to be a cowboy but he hated it.
Cena played a semi robotic guy called prototype in OVW.
For tag team names the spirit squad was pretty shocking.
