Basel vs Genk
Basel tactics
Genk tactics
I thought the game would be close and I wasn't wrong, the midfield of Basel impressed me, Guarin, Blind and Meyer were brilliant signings. I feel the Genk side has a much better balance to it, Chadli in as good form as he'll ever be and Tadic supplying Ibrahimovic spells trouble for Basel, but equally I feel Adebayor can turn it on and cause Genk problems. As much as I like Basel's side, I feel the Genk defence is stronger and noticeably stronger, which means they prevent more of Basel's attacks than Basel can prevent Genk attacks and it leads to a narrow win for Genk.
Basel 1-2 Genk
(Adebayor) (Ibrahimovic, Chadli)

Getafe vs Bremen
Getafe tactics
Bremen tactics
I wont lie, I expected to read a Getafe win, but Bremen's side has improved especially with the signing of Gundogan, and I feel they cause Getafe problems. I don't mind Getafe's formation but not sure Mirallas is utilised as well as a striker/wide forward. I like Getafe's fullbacks and feel they are very good going forward overlapping the narrow midfield, and it creates chances for them. Equally it leaves them a little vulnerable the other way and Bremen also create chances. A high scoring draw is fairest here, both sides could have won on another day.
Getafe 2-2 Bremen
(Totti, Di Natale) (Kiessling, Gundogan)

Granada vs Bordeaux
Granada tactics
Bordeaux tactics
I admire TSJ's approach, very "Mike Bassett". Only not 4-4-2. I think the wingback system is good for your side, with an extra midfielder it would have been very solid, however it's very bold and attacking and creates chances. Bordeaux very organised, the signing of Firmino is perfect for the 4-2-3-1 and I feel that while Granada are very brave going forward, the Bordeaux side have the ability to counter and cause them real problems. I would love to reward TSJ's gung ho approach but Bordeaux set up very well and earn the win.
Granada 2-3 Bordeaux
(Brahimi, Strellar) (Sakho, Quintero, Firmino)

Palermo vs Verona
Palermo tactics
Verona tactics
Normally I would have it in my mind that Verona would win, but I'm pleasantly surprised by the Palermo side, I like the midfield pairing and feel it can limit the impact of Verona today. I also like the front pairing, and feel it can get at Verona's high line. I still don't rate Mascherano as a CB and feel Emenike can really get at him. However the Verona front three is quality, not sure on Henderson as the AM but Sterling, Tello and Costa are probably the best front three in the league. Only issue is whether Palermo have a back three or a back five, tactics suggest a back five which limits the Verona impact but I'm not sure they're able to be so attacking. I think Verona are the stronger side but I genuinely feel the Palermo front two cause enough problems to warrant a draw.
Palermo 2-2 Verona
(Emenike, Hernandez) (Costa, Sterling)

PAOK vs Twente
PAOK tactics
Twente tactics
Two strong sides, two solid sets of tactics and two very different systems, leads to a very entertaining game. Twente have a very solid spine although Berahino is still more of a form player than a quality player for me, and PAOK's 3-4-3 is very strong, Matic is a very good partner for Gerrard as it gives Gerrard the space to play his passing game. Rabiot and Suarez don't compare as both are very technical but unable to force the issue in a pair against Gerrard and Matic, this is where PAOK were able to push on. Until Twente went 4-4-2 PAOK had the better of proceedings, but I think McCormack and Berahino were able to have a go at the PAOK defence and in my opinion Rekik and Stones are susceptible to a physical approach. A draw for me.
PAOK 1-1 Twente

General:Basel want to play to play a high pace, quick passing and moving based game with our energetic wide players and support from midfield. We will look to press high up the pitch and put pressure on the opposition to cause mistakes and to capitalise. Otherwise keep the possession and look for the opponents to open up, they can't score without the ball! This will hopefully allow us to stretch the opposition defensive line and create the space for a few attacks.Attacking:Blind to sit in front of the centre backs to provide cover and allow the full backs to push on.Guarin to play a support role in attack and arrive late into the box.Adili and Meyer to both play off Adebayor, looking to thread balls into Adebayor or take on the full backs to get a shot on goal, looking to cut inside.Full backs to provide width and energy to the attack, with Blind capable of forming a back three with the centre backs if needed.Defensive:High press up the pitch, with pressure leading from the forward three.Mexes to lead defence and man mark the lone striker. Suchy to sweep up anything that comes from the striker or support.Full backs to track back and force any attackers wide, and prevent the cross.Blind to sit in front of defence and break up any attacking play, or hound any attacking mid trying to float into space.

TACTICS
We are going to play a higher line than usual today, with plenty of pace in our defense, look to negate Adebayor's attack threat. Going forward we should exploit their lack of pace defensively, and have the wingers playing narrow as inside forwards with the full backs providing width. Get Tadic up against Pocognoli as often as possible, with Aurier bombing forward in support. Look to build on our win last week to climb the table.
De Sanctis - Shout out to the centre backs, use your experience today to lead.
Aurier/Evra - Get forward when you can, their wingers will be a threat but like to cut inside so sit a little narrower than usual, on the edge of the area. Let them have it if they are staying out wide, we'll take our chance.
Caldirola - Man-mark the main striker, presumably Adebayor.
Dier - Look to sweep in behind Caldirola, if there's two strikers man-mark the other.
Herrera - Look to be our main creative threat going forward, you have license to roam and look for space in front of their defense.
De Rossi - The main man in midfield, look to be smart in possession, always try to go forward and shield the defense when we don't have the ball.
Mavuba - On the left to help Evra out as apparently he isn't a good left back, look to play a box to box role.
Chadli/Tadic - Look to get between centre back and full back, I want you narrow. If the opportunity arises get on the shoulder and await a ball over the top as they lack defensive pace.
Ibrahimovic - They will probably do something specific to stop you, maybe a man-marking system. If they do, either get on the other centre back or drop deeper to create more space for Tadic and Chadli to run beyond you. Having said that, you have the quality to make something happen by winning a header, doing a trick to get past someone, a clever little run.
TT: Gone with the diamond, we're playing a narrow midfield with the FB giving us width when we attack. U want to force the game to be played in the middle so we can take control. Allow them to play in their own half but once they enter our half we'll pressure them. Our own game is a slower based passing style which we will look to quicken up in their final third. Mirallas is playing as a wide forward using his pace to stretch their defence.
DEFENSIVE TACTICS
We're playing a medium line as I feel we've got enough to deal with their speed. Terry pick up Kiebling he is perfect for your style, keep him back to goal. Ayhan will pick up any spare man or sweep up. I want my FB to position themselves so the wingers have to come inside which takes away the crossing for Kiebling. Ledesma screen the back 4 make sure they're protected and help our FB. Kramer & Tiago play a pressing game when they come I to our half force them backwards or sideways blocking any openings to pass the ball. Totti has minimal defensive duties but I want him to position himself in front of their deep midfield to stop the flow of their passes.
ATTACKING TACTICS
I only want 1 FB to push up at a time, look to run forward creating space for others and get ball into box for attackers. Ledesma role is dictate the tempo keep ball for us, Tiago & Kramer help Ledesma in our slow build up play. Once we get the ball forward into final third to Totti I want him to play in the two forwards. Mirallas role is to get in between Martinez and Cole attacking the space using his pace which allows Di Natale to play against the other CB..

Today we are playing a very good team with a good tactitian for a manager. We want to make it difficult for them to play their game and I want to be patient today as there may be times when we don’t have the ball for long periods. I noticed last week that Getafe went for a 4-3-3 to match his opponent and I have decided to go for a 4-2-3-1 to try and control the midfield in this game leading to more possession to us.
Defensive Team-talk:
We need to be on our toes this week especially with the pace that Getafe have in the wide areas.
Getafe will use the ball well so look to be patient but stand your ground and don’t be bullied by their centre forwards especially.
You will be marking their main centre forward today Martinez –Get tight to him and don’t allow him time on the ball. I am expecting it to be Di-Natale or Berbatov.
Prodl if they play with 2 strikers you will pick up the next man.
Gundogan you will need to shield the defence aswell as Vilhena but I will be expecting Vilhena to push on a bit more today so at times you may be left alone. Be on the lookout for runners through the centre too.
Cole and Selassie I want you both to hold your positions and track the runners out wide as I imagine one of them will be Mirallas out wide on the left and if he is on that side he will be looking to cut inside as well most likely so I want you to ensure that this does not happen.
Attacking Team-talk:
Gundogan you will be the deep lying playmaker this week by looking to use the ball in a clever way by keeping possession and being patient with the build-up play. You will make things happen from just in front of the defensive line and pushing forward into the middle of the pitch.
Vilhena I want you to push forward in support of the attacks but you will be required to get back and get behind the ball when we come under pressure.
Buffel and Kishna I want you to be options out wide to deliver crosses into Kiessling or to cut inside yourselves and look to take a chance.
Maher you are playing as the number 10 today just behind Kiessling to directly support him and look to slip passes into him and also to look to play the ball out into the wide areas for Buffel and Kishna.
Kiessling you will be our lone striker today and may need to be patient when we don’t have the ball but I want you to always be ready to make runs and be ready to pounce on the crosses coming into the box either from the wide areas or through the centre.
Di Santo on for Kiessling - 90th Minute.
Makiadi on for Vilhena - 80th Minute.
I wont lie, I expected to read a Getafe win, but Bremen's side has improved especially with the signing of Gundogan, and I feel they cause Getafe problems. Veltman - Vlaar - Alderweireld
Caceres ------------------------------ Bernat
Motta
Brahimi -- Januzaj
Berardi ----- Streller
Subs: Fernandez, Jedvaj, Marrone, Gaudino, te Vrede
Overview: Frak it, I'm going for it. If I get hammered who gives a Frak? I don't. I'm wanting to see us really having a go at whoever ando's playing at the back, looking to catch them out by throwing numbers up front. I'm not expecting my front 4 to track back too much as a) I have 6 players who are defending and b) the BoredHoe playaz are risking loads by going forward in numbers.
Defence: Vlaar to be the deepest lying CB, keeping the whole defence organised. Expecting nando to play Sakho solely up front so both Veltman & Toby to keep an eye on him & whoever's playing AM (or a 2nd striker if nando goes with 2 up front). Don't sit back and invite pressure - if Sakho's drifting in and out of the defence, mark zonally but don't get sucked out of position. Bernat and Caceres to protect the CBs from the opposition wingers. They like to cut inside but we've got numbers so show them the line and see if they take the bait. If not, Frak crunch them. Feel free to go forward to swing crosses in and/or unsettle their FBs but once you've let the ball go get back immediately. Motta to be a midfield blocker by Frak crunching anyone that comes near him. Brahimi and Januzaj to track back a bit so we're not completely outnumbered in midfield but look to get forward ASAP.
Attack: Simples - sheer numbers to unsettle them. Berardi & Streller (BS) to hang on both the CBs, Brahimi and Januzaj to sit in between the DMs & CBs looking to play in BS. Swap positions, move about the pitch, do anything you want really to get me goals. Can't say much more than that. Frak have them.

Subs: Olimpa/Arbeloa/Alex/Jojic/Bojan/Vidal/El Ghazi
Corners: Alonso
Free Kicks: Deep = Alonso, Short = Firmino
Pens = Alonso
Team Talk: Up against the rather "Special Needs" then Special Juan so shall look to continue as usual and look to dominate his defense and press up the pitch with Xavi injured for them and look to attack from the off with a high tempo against their slower side.
Defensive Tactics
- Laporte to get tight to the main forward, Manolas to cover if the forward gets in behind with his pace
- Manolas to watch for the AM coming from deep otherwise help Tremoulinas with the winger coming down the line
- Jung/Tremoulinas to force down the line and block the crosses into the box, if cut inside look to put in a tackle
- Alonso to sit and look to cut the supply into the forward from the AM, Lucas to get about the midfield and stop them dictating from deep
- Wingers to get back and double up when possible
Attacking Tactics
- Jung & Tremoulinas to get up the wings and whip balls in for Sakho
- Alonso to sit inbetween the CB's and dictate play by spraying balls into Wingers or Firmino,If they put a man on you move forward and Lucas will sit there.
- Lucas to get forward and the edge of the box when the ball goes in the box. If Alonso is being manmarked then sit deep and dictate play
- Narsingh to take on Bernat with pace and look to whip the ball in the box
- Quintero to take on the replacement RB with his dribbling and whip the ball in
- Firmino to sit in the gap between defense and midfield and look to create for Sakho & Wingers to get in behind, Don't be afraid to shoot on occasions, If get marked by Motta then switch with Quintero and look to cut in off the wing
- Sakho to back into the defenders and look to roll them for balls in behind and look to get across your marker when the ball comes in the box.
Sub: Bojan/Jojic for Narsingh/Lucas after 75 mins

Palermo vs Verona
Palermo tactics
- Spoiler:
- Sorrentino
Coloccini - Musacchio - Kongolo
Coleman ----------------------------- Perisic
Schneiderlin - Kouyate
Canales
Emenike - Hernandez
Defence
Musacchio to pick up the further forward and then the other two to mark zonally on the other.
Dependent on the side they're attacking down, the back three will shift over and assist the wing back on that side.
Both CMs have defensive duties and we'll sit in shape when we're being attacked. One must always be back to slot in to the defence if we're being outnumbered.
Wing backs will get back and look to delay wingers as well as blocking crosses where they can.
Attack
Wing backs will be the main thrust down the wings and seek to get the ball over to our big boys in the middle.
Canales will sit in the hole and look to retain possession as well as switch play to either flank.
Both forwards will have a high work rate and lots of movement in the box in anticipation of crosses being whipped in.
One CM at a time can push on and arrive late to attacks.
Verona tactics
- Spoiler:
- Howard
Darmian-Davies-Mascherano-Bertrand
Carrick-Behrami
Henderson
Sterling---------------------Tello
Costa
Tactics:
Big win last week, we want to keep the momentum going this week, high energy from the off as ever. We want the FBs to bomb on in this game, Carrick comes in to sit deeper to cover this off, and in general we prioritise the wings. Keep the tempo high, we want to force the issue in this game.
Attacking:
Costa to be in and around the box when it gets into their third, drop off a bit outside the area, be available for balls into feet to lay someone off. Henderson to look to link up with the front 3, as well as running beyond them in possession to cause havoc in the box. Sterling and Tello stay wide, stretch the pitch. Run at your man, look to mix up whether you go inside or outside and get balls into the box for Costa to work off. FBs to push on, provide the overlaps and give us an extra threat. Carrick to try to dictate the passes from deep.
Defending:
Playing a high line today, we have plenty of pace to cover and this should help cramp them for space. Henderson to drop back in out of possession and harry their midfield. Carrick and Behrami to sit deeper in this game, Behrami roaming primarily, Carrick to try and fill space if a FBs is up the pitch. Don't really want the wingers tracking back, prefer to take a risk and see if their FBs want to get caught too far upfield. FBs should try to show their wingers inside, should be congested and space at a premium, we can crowd them out there. Davies to cover the main striker, Mascherano covers the back 4.

Subs: Giakoumis, Marquez, Georgiadis, Grenier, Sinkgraven, Stoch, Athansiadis.
General:
Up against a strong Twente side today, so we are looking to keep it tight centrally, defend deep to invite them on to us and hit them on the break through the pace of our forwards and FBs. Twente have Alcacer and Carvalho injured and as a consequence we think they will rejig a bit and weaken their wide areas, so we are pushing our FBs on to WB roles and giving Bellarabi and Callejon free roles behind Kruse.
Defensive Tactics:
Deep line with limited space in behind. Inviting the opposition forward to create space for the counter attack.
Barzagli to pick up the main striker and try to physically bully him out of the game. Rekik to pick up any second striker. Stones, and Rekik if spare, to stay alert and cover behind Barzagli in case the forward gets the run on him.
Gerrard and Matic to sit deep and shield the back 3. Matic getting on to Calhanoglu and stop him playing his natural game.
Van Rhijn and Kolasinac to get up and down the flanks
Attacking Tactics:
Quick, direct counter attacking today. As soon as we dispossess the opposition, we go forward with pace.
Get the defence turned and back tracking towards their own goal.
Bellarabi and Callejon to play in free roles and be the focus of the quick counter attack.
Van Rhijn and Kolasinac to get forward and provide the width.
Kruse to be the focal point of the attack, getting into the spaces created by our approach today.

Team talk
This week we are reverting to a 4-2-3-1 formation with the emphasis on soaking pressure for periods of play and making the most of set pieces and counter attacks. Injuries to key players have forced us to alter our game and we’re aware Afro will be bedding in Matic to add steel to his central core, we expect him as a result to have the majority of possession and control the midfield, so we’ll look to soak, reserve energies for protecting our half and then hit in bursts using the speed of our wingers and the free kick specialist in Calhanoglu.
Defence
A back four with Dante given the role of picking up the main striker as they enter threatening positions, be aware of their movement but ensure you don't get dragged out of position. Subotic to assist where required but to pick up threats from their wingers/AM etc if they break into the danger zone. Fullbacks to shepherd their wingers on the outside, no rash challenges and going to ground, slow their attacks down and block crosses. Only look to come forward when the opposition have over stretched and there’s a possibility to outnumber them on the counter. Don’t be afraid to hit a long ball for Berahino to run on to.
Rabiot main defensive of midfield trio, look to stay back when our FBs go forward.
Attack
Suarez playing deeper than normal given the playmaker role, be the outlet for our counters and look for the movement of our attacking options with balls into space .Calhanoglu to link up play as the highest positioned midfielder, stretch their defence out to you and if heavily marked as expected then look to invite tackles from which you can unleash hell from your free kicks.
Speed abuse on the flank with Green, look to hit them on the counter. Berahino lone front man, be ready to pounce on balls from our defence when pinged past the defence and beat the offside trap.
Subs
McCormack for Suarez at 70m, go 4-4-2 utilising the flanks even more and a rough and ready performance from the Scot.
Until Twente went 4-4-2 PAOK had the better of proceedings, but I think McCormack and Berahino were able to have a go at the PAOK defence and in my opinion Rekik and Stones are susceptible to a physical approach. A draw for me.

Losing two of my spine really screwed me over especially with you bringing in Matic.
The last two weeks have seen my opponent and I trying to second guess each other and ending up playing the same tactics! Last week both sides went all out high octane attack, this week both went soak and counter!

Good game Fluxy and great tactics, draw was fair result.
Unlucky Hero, is that 7 games you haven't beat Afro in? It would have been less if Afro had the bottle to play your Porto side.

I'm pretty sure he's beaten me.
I'm still happy to play that Porto team. if only the whole league hadn't disbanded.
Wasn't that the same league ending that stopped you winning the easiest league ever with Roma. Meaning you still haven't ever won a league title despite being the second longest running manager in these games?

That Porto team was immense wasn't it.
Think it's probably still the best side ever assembled in the various versions of Euro Division, NED or Furious Leagues.

Let's rearrange that match, I'm sure the squads are around somewhere in the archive section.
I've actually won a second division title with Rangers on the old 606. Politics are why I haven't won more then I should have.

Nice to deflect the pressure on me Afro but you know, I know, we all know you bottled it from that team because you'd have tested your heaviest and potentially heaviest defeat ever on all forms of pretend football management.
Re: Week 9 results
I've won the Premier League on here (despite Twist calling foul because I did injuries for the final week and Neymar was injured for Cherries, and and others because my win was influenced by a 6-0 vote from Afro)

They are. I have the Porto ones posted on Hero's page and my Fiorentina ones are there too.
I think it's pretty obvious that Porto should win that game, it would take a tactical miracle for Fiorentina to get something from it. It was streets ahead of that Fiorentina side, even more so when you look at the Fiorentina side on current ratings.
But if we need to play the game to feed the obsession you have with it, then I am sure Hero is happy to do so too.

Re: Week 9 results
Obsession? I've mentioned it twice since the incident happened, if that's what classes as obsession then Sodhat should be sent to prison for being "obsessed" with the 17 year old.
To be honest I'm not bothered and I'd hate to see you get beat 8 or 9 nil.

You really are obsessed by this. Hero and I will play the game if it helps with your rehab!
I would have lost the games against Hero and Hero would have won the league. But it was the league that you, Nick and Hero were running, was called time on about 3 games into a 10 game season. I'm not sure what influence I had.
You and Hero had more influence than I did, being runners, so if anything it was more likely you were scared of blowing the chance to win an easy league

Your the only one who ever mentions it.
I think I could live with losing 8 or 9 nil, so don't backtrack, we can play the game just to help you get over it

I've said what I had to I'm done.
Love how you try and flip it around like Mourinho calling it an obsession when the truth is far from that. The league finished but we could have still played that game you were quick to leave knowing De Rossi and Cisse x2 would have ripped apart that side.

Too late to backtrack. You have mentioned it one too many times for it not appearing to be a psychological issue for you.
We can't just leave it, we need to help you as our friend.
Hero - when shall we play?

I can't believe there was a time when Cisse was an automatic 2 goals...

I'm not angry, I'm chuckling to myself about how you brought it up again.
But I am concerned about your welfare, so me and Hero will get the game on, just so you can get some closure

I'm find Afro nothing wrong me with, no obsession at all. I'm just stating the truth, the game should never be played it's done but funny how the league finished before you two played. Let's leave it at that for now and concentrate on our own teams.

Haha sorry mate, I think they were excellent tactics and you're coming along nicely. Patience is the key you're building a side it takes time.

Cheers Marky. I think I agree with everything you've said. Good game nando, your team was too solid for me in the end.
