DC 2014 Final - 21-23 Nov 2014
First topic message reminder :
SUI and FRA contest the final in a few days.
http://www.daviscup.com/en/draws-results/tie/details.aspx?tieId=100021090
SUI has two players coming out of WTF, while FRA has depth in numbers.
SUI may never be at this point in the near future and can make the best of the presented opportunity. Federer and Wawrinka would like to add this to their CV, if they can. They will rue the opportunity that Lady Luck has thrown their way.
FRA is the last hurdle, and have some good players, a home court advantage and a surface that may favor them more the the SUI. H2Hs may be meaningless in such a contest given that any of the players on one side can beat players on the other side of the net.
ARG v ESP turned out to be an excellent DC final, with DelPotro, Monaco, Nalbandian trying their best to get the better of the other side.
Will this final live up to its billing?

What a sh*t decision that is by France... dear me.
Roger isn't going to lose to Gasquet.

OMG, so disappointed, nothing to look forward to now. Gasquet can never seem to stand up to Federer. This guy actually has the game to make it to the final 8 last WTF but looked so lost yesterday.
On the other hand, given Federer is still not 100% for a BO5 SINGLEs battle, perhaps Gasquet will surprise us.....

He couldn't beat Fed if Fed was on crutches

Not in a million years is gasquet beating Federer over five sets - broke back or not.
They should start the trophy presentation now.

If Tsonga's injured they should've picked Simon. No brainer really. Simon is tireless and frustrate Federer. Gasquet isn't even Federer lite.

This a strange court:
Pretty quick (just look at how many baseline winners Fed is hitting compared to London)
high bouncing
clay
and indoors

It would have been nice to see stan and Monfils battle it out. This just isn't close to interesting from a match standpoint sadly

They're not allowed to pick Simon. You can only pick 4 players and they went with Tsonga, Monfils, Benne & Gasquet. Surely Julien would have been a better bet.
(unless you mean for the tie overall)

Maybe, but Benny on clay? Also I guess they have to go with the higher ranked singles player.
Trouble is Gasket is utterly owned by Federer, at least Benny would be sparky. More to he point though, Federer has ZERO fear of Reechard, which is why he's switched into fully relaxed God mode. He is playing extremely well now.

@IMBL... can you find out what is going on with Tsonga?
Looks like the best Silver Platter to hand the DC Trophy to Federinka was by putting Gasquet up for slaughter.

Tsonga picked a sort of elbow injury apparently. He said he was at 70-80% of his capacity yesterday. Doubt he, Simon or Benneteau would have made a difference against vintage Roger anyway.

Gasquet is a mess. Stuck in neutral his whole career, and is bottling the biggest clash of his career in front of a world record crowd.

Just pure poetry in motion. Even Gasquet's flat strokes are coming back. Nothing he can do.
