Sr,
1).Correct. Wonderful is right. Though in the American order of things behind the NFL, College Football, High School Football, NBA, College B'ball.
2).Not much of a market: 21,000 per home game.
3).But no other nations pay their players a fraction of this sort of bounty. He'll probably end up using PED's, just like his predecessor as highest paid.
Ridiculous money!

On occasion, the wearing of helmets can actually lead to greater injury, giving the wearer a sense of invulnerability trying stuff they wouldn't normally do. It might not lead to more head injuries by wearing a helmet, but injuries to other parts of the body.
This cricket injury is tragic, but mercifully rare. I hope the parents of Hughes have excused the bowler. He must feel wretched right now.

I can certainly vouch for that theory Soops, in my karate day's we'd mostly spar without any protection and it'd be "reasonably" controlled but occasionally we'd don shin pads & mitts and go for it, inevitably there'd be more rib injuries, black eyes, bust noses etc.
I'd agree on the unfortunate bowler as well, that'll be a tough mental scar

Interesting survey on golfing ability.

Easy to see why companies target the "do you want to hit it longer" crowd

That is an interesting read, especially the 'birdies, pars and bogies' chart.
Have to say, I don't believe for a second that only 3% of scratch golfers keep a record of their scores, or even just 9% of 1-5s
I didn't realise that less than 50% of players ever break 90.
I saw a guy in a comp at our place score 137 the other day. Tasty

There is no way 10% of golfers are regularly breaking 80. Maybe if bounce games were counted and few mulligans thrown in.

Worth bearing in mind that it's 10% of golfers who record their stats break 80.
I would hazard a guess (and will no doubt offend someone) that the average scoring of people recording their stats is lower than the average scoring overall. At the very least we're talking about more attentive / obsessed players

You must be an excellent player. Well done.
If anyone can check their clubs handicap site, do the numbers reflect 10% of people breaking 80?

I just looked at the last medal to be played of the season.
71 Players, 12 break 80. So 16% breaking 80.
Thought that might be an anomaly so checked the one before.
108 players, 20 breaking 80. So 18.5 %
10% would appear a rather low return.

Think the more casual golfer (and hence higher handicapped) wouldn't be inclined to play medals as much as more obsessed or lower handicap golfers.super_realist wrote:I just looked at the last medal to be played of the season.

Hmm, just checked our last two medals and November is 2 from 37 breaking 80, and October 5 from 52.
5% and 10%
Super, you get 108 players in your medals? That's incredible, how do they fit them all in tee times wise? All go as fourballs spread over 4 hours or so? The course must be a nightmare on medal days

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
but these are comps... I suspect casual golfers may form a much lower percentage of those who play in comps than those participating in the survey, which would explain the disparity.
I found the survey interesting in any case. It tallies with my personal experience: my dad, a VERY causal golfer, usually scores OK on the par 3's, but struggles badly on par 5's...

That's nothing MPB, sometimes we have 140 in medals.
Tee times from 7am to 4pm. Plenty times, even space for non competition players to get a space in the middle too.
ALso, Pedro, given that your average golfer is between 8-20 there are a lot of higher handicappers in the medal too.
I don't think 10% of competitors in a medal breaking 80 is all that remarkable.

I'm watching it. It's good, but a little slow paced. Given it's set in Belfast and uses some locations I know quite well, it's interesting for me on a different level. I've also met the lead male actor a few times and know his dad. Plus..you know.. Gillian Anderson.. "for the Dads" as Dara would say.

I came to it late but watched the first series on catch up and am about 3 weeks behind in this series. Can't put my finger on what makes it so good but it is. And it's not just Gillian Anderson, even though I'm definitely one of Dara's "Dads"!

I have been watching it from the start. It is very good. Jamie Dornan (Christian Grey) is a good actor as is John Lynch (in the name of the father, Sliding doors) and Gillian Anderson is excellent. Features lots of other local Irish actors.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
I really like the fall, it has a sort of Irish Scandi noir thing going on. It also seems to have the hollyoaks cast of a few years ago, but they are all very good.
It is a shame that Dornan will be in 50 shades as he is clearly a very good actor and deserves better roles than that. I hope 50 shades doesn't put an end to him appearing in better TV/Movies.

I have no been watching the fall, though it seems like something i would enjoy, same with the Missing on BBC, which i havent watched. I did like a bit of scandi noir, The Killing was good. With regards to Dornan playing in 50 Shades, all actors need to make some money, so go into the big films. Doesnt usually impact their career, if they are good that is. Clooney did Batman, and he has made some great films since.

Wow Super doesnt mind something!!! Thats almost the same as actually liking something.
Who are the actors from Hollyoaks? Didnt think there were any or many English actors in the fall.
A few of the actors from the new season are from a restaurant based drama called "Raw" set in Dublin. That wasnt too bad either.
