Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
Evening everyone.
First fight in the way is Jamie McDonnell.
3 rounds in and I have him losing every one of them
Turning off now as neither can punch. I'll watch the footy and turn of after.

That lad must be pretty heavy handed (in the early rounds at least) jamie is feeling the shots, chacov has a conservative workrate and pretty crude (Suspect stamina?). I think weve seen the argintines best work already. Mcdonell to take over from this point.

Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
I have McDonnell down by a round; he's pushing the pace and whilst Jamie hasn't caught much flush he just isn't throwing much. Think it's one of those situations where his advantage in reach and height is actually a disadvantage...just going over the top of the argentine with everything he throws...need's to shorten the shots.
Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
Well that was odd; if dislocated first thing you wouldn't do is waft the arm about to signal to finish the fight!
Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
Vegas for McDonnell, great fairytale story for him to be fair. Type of fighter who always looks better when in with a favourite...when he's not the underdog can't seem to put it all together.

Mcdonell took over and was winning on the cards. The argintine retired in the tenth with a dislocated shoulder, mobile.

Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
McDonnell mate; a very iffy performance from him...just didn't seem up for it. Was ahead just about going into the 10th round...then Chacon pulled out with dislocated shoulder. Confirmed that he will be fighting in Vegas against Kameda in spring next year; so may explain just why he didn't really turn up for this. (Froch had to then discuss it afterwards...oh the irony...can only imagine how pi**ed he is that little man from Doncaster is going to Vegas before him lol).
Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
Cheers guys sounded like a competative fight. Didnt think it would be!
Fair play to Jamie though.
Footy finishes in 10. Will be cracking the beers open and boxing it all night long. Hopefully....

Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
Want to get it on now mate; Callum Smith up next...big leap in quality for him as well and given how we always moan about fighters being put in with patsy's for too long this one goes against the grain.
Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
Froch looked as though he wanted to smash Paul Smiths face in when he said Mcdonell deserved to be top of the bill in vegas next. He was steaming from the snout like a madrid bull.

Was brilliant comment!! Smith's jab is beautiful has to be said. A real weapon!
Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
Good fight this. Interesting how callum will perform between rounds 8 to 12 with someone who's recently gone the distance with arthur abraham.
Good economy, shot selection, concentration and use of the jab thus far..

Ok, you hit the lad with a good body shot...but dont get carried away. This lad knows how to go the distance, dont waste energy when the stoppage is not there callum.

Smith boxing well. Big step up in class and he is Doing well. Think it was a smart move putting him in with a non puncher who has never been stopped.
The rounds will do Callum good. Would like to see him get a couple more fights in the bag then fight Groves/Degale

Not too impressed with Callum Smith. Seen as the "next big thing", he's failing to show it at the moment. He should stop this guy.

Guys never been stopped and is Smiths first real test. Will judge him more after this.
Too early to get too excited but he is a good boxer and in a year or two he could be ready for titles

Smith doing well in boring enough fight, the opponent looks a stone lighter with no power and only too happy to keep walking forward.

Why should he stop him? Neither Bika or Abraham have.

Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
Tough, rugged, experienced pro who is difficult to look good against let alone stop. It was a very good and controlled performance from Smith especially at this stage of his career. Still some development to come and some things to work on (that left hook is very telegraphed and predictable at times...thrown quite lazily). Certainly not ready for World Stage yet; couple more tough outings over next 12 months, some different styles of opposition requried, but certainly has bright future and the power is there which is always helpful. Lets not forget circumstances leading up to fight for Smith either.
Looking forward to seeing Saunders, vicious body puncher in the bracket of Hatton-esque.

Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
Good synopsis by froch in fairness. Smith being careful in the later half of the fight cause he knows he prob has to go for 12 and is unsure how much energy he can expel.

Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
Good win. He displayed great maturity in conserving energy. My only concern is his defense; it comprises of offense and a high open guard, so he vulnerable down the middle. Got caught by alot of shots, a big hitter woukd have had him in trouble. He has poor head movement which generally the case with tall rangy fighters who rely on the jab. Head movement is something he will never have. With experience, and if he gets his tactcs right, he might not need it (considering his physical attributes).
All in all, in only his 14th or 15th fight, a good performance against a former world title challenger.

Must say having seen Smith's European trialhorse before and seeing how ordinary he is..

Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
Don't know if its because he is keen....but Saunders did not look good to me there.
Getting countered by a journeyman with consummate ease....good hatton comparison to be fair so far....bobbs around, throws some shots to the body and roughs you up.
Soon as he steps up he gets found out as far as I'm concerned.
If he gets to Euro level he would have over achieved.....

Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
Jumping in far too much, think it may be a case of trying to impress a little too much. He has nice jab (should I say, has had up till now)..also the body shot really is an equalizer if he lands it. Age not on his side and chances of him learning too much more at this stage of his career (age..not number of fights) is low...European may be his level but wouldn't at all surprise me to see him go further.
Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
Nasty Bradley. Seen him in the gym when he was 15...a good prospect who might struggle if he cant intimidate a handy opponent.

There is too much of an over reaction on the back of one fight, not watching the card but Smith and Saunders are at the stage of their careers where they won't be sparkling every time they fight.

Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
If Joshua look's sloppy tonight expect the same people who said throw him in with Wilder to suddenly say 'he needed more experienced/softer fights' that's just how it is.
1 week notice, out of the ring for 6 months and not in his own weight division; never going to be sparkling from Saunders. Looked better as the fight went on and that jab is great when it gets working and sets up the meaty body shots very well. He is thought very highly of in the inner circles of boxing...shall wait and see. As was said; could be a bit of brutish/bully like thing with him similar to Hatton as they say time will tell.
Quigg up next....against yet another '???' opponent. When is this guy going to step up...could understand Gallacher's insistence they they have no interest in Frampton if they were stepping in with the top guys in the division but they aren't...far from it. Definition of treading water at the moment.
