Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
First topic message reminder :
Evening everyone.
First fight in the way is Jamie McDonnell.
3 rounds in and I have him losing every one of them
Turning off now as neither can punch. I'll watch the footy and turn of after.

Sprott got ko'd in one round in his last fight..
But Adam Smith thinks it's mouthwatering so who are we to argue.

Statement...against a man who had to shift 10lbs in 2 day's just to get the fight. I'll be more impressed when he fights someone who comes to win rather than for a payday.

Howard's bum went again. DeGale looked great though to be fair.

Wow. That, to me, is impressive.
A guy that recently went 12 with Chavez Jr, never been stopped, big at the weight.
Very good performance

Big at the weight in a good way when he put the work in at the gym; sorry but the Periban who went in with Bika would have been a very good win. That one was terrible...I'm pretty sure he didn't workout once in the build up to this. Absolutely shocking for a professional...fair play though DeGale got the job done..onto the big fight now be it Froch or Groves. Mind...just have to mention it...he is a bit of a class a...clown isn't he!
Ha I did mobile; just fancied trampling all over your irony to be honest; hence the wink.

Have to say that the way this show has flowed from fight to fight is excellent.
How often do we have to wait through 20 minutes of filler before the next one?

So, has someone taught degale how to punch, or has a previously indentable opponent been paid off?

Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
Yeah I think coward is a bit harsh.
To be fair I think it is just a desperate attempt to drum interest and try to get people to push Froch to fight him. He will meet Froch backstage and give him a kiss and cuddle and how much he looks up to him.

Wheelchair it hasn't been ppv worthy thus far. Decent nights boxing but wouldn't be too worried about missing it if I were u.
Hopefully the main event is good. Should be competitive

Listening to this on five live. Doesn't sound like George is doing anything special.
Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
I've spent 20 quid on worse things. I agree in principle it should be avoided and I hope next time its ppv there are a couple of genuine 50-50 undercard fights.

Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
Yeah can't blame degale trying to drum up interest and try and land the froch fight. Career high payday and a win win situation really. If he managed to win he's dethroned a British boxing legend (IMO) and will catapult him to the top of SMW rankings and potentially become a household name in Britain.(which means bigger money for fights). Lose and well, it hasn't really done groves to much harm getting pancaked twice, still nicely set up for a title shot!

This version of Groves should go nowhere near the current DeGale.
Doesn't have anything like the intensity he had in Froch I or when he was with Adam Booth.
Not convinced Paddy Fitzpatrick is improving him.

Strange fight. Have groves winning 4 and 5 but losing the first 3. Round 6 evens.
Why is he so off? He looked off against rebrasse

Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
Suppose the difficulty is getting yourself up for these fights after two huge blockbuster ones; i'd be more worried if Groves wasn't showing the glimpses in class that came out against Rebrasse and that have shown a couple of times here.
Just hasn't seemed at the races rather than looking like his skill-set has diminished.

Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
I genuinely belief that Groves would have won the first Froch fight with Booth in his corner.
Fitzpatrick has said that Groves came to him with the gameplan for the Froch fight already in place (Booth's plan) and that he was just getting him fight fit.
I'm unconvinced that Fitzpatrick is a good enough trainer/tactician for a fighter at world level.
Think there's also an element of Groves calling the shots a bit too much.

As I said class shows through still. Great two shots to put him down to begin with.

If you took a large box of blunt tools, took out the bluntest one. Its still a fair bit sharper than degale. I always think tool analogies are appropriate for him.

DeGale at the moment looks very sharp and Groves doesn't look near the top of his game.
That's all I was saying.

Everyone saying pathetic stoppages; you realise neither of the two fighters have kicked up any fuss about the stoppages?
Re: Liverpool Fight Thread - SPOILERS
Every time someone is hit by a couple of shots I expect them to be stopped. It's ridiculous.
I may have to start a worldwide demonstration against this farce.

So? regardless of their response they're not getting a second chance, and as opponents on British soil I think they come in knowing what can happen. It's not like only people from the UK are aware of our own bias officials. They're prepared for that, and Periban wasn't even there to win.

Here comes the standard Froch punditry.
