We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
First topic message reminder :
You're both quite awful, but I wouldn't rule anybody out of anything yet. Liverpool are THIRTEENTH and they are just five points off a CL spot (although, they might give up on it this year, so they can make a run for it next year). The teams are just all so close this season, u don't think it would have even cleared up by Christmas (except Chelsea winning the league, they should be coronated by then). Citeh are basically trying the Suárez trick with Agüero, and while it's working at the moment, I'd say with his injury track record, the one with the thunder thighs is not someone you want to base your entire season around. If Agüero's out, Citeh struggle (hell, with Agüero in they've made heavy weather). I'd back both Utd and Arsenal to make it, but If Southampton can make it out of December still top five, I think it begins to get interesting

Not a red card for me. Is Rickie Lambert REALLY going to run from 40 yards and score?

He's Rickie Lambert, he ain't going to make it through 1 on 1. I'm quicker than him!! (Technically, it's last man so he has to go, but come on, Lambert's no Bale)

Hasn't signed new deal either, runs out 2016 doesn't it? Madrid will throw ridiculous cash at him.

We had about 20 shots. We all over them but lacked composure.
Bentekes class won them that game . Our over eagerness didn't help.

Mid table like erm 7th, Nando? Who the hell is 7th at the moment, eh?!
5th in the league, coming back from a goal down away from home. Team full of injuries and we're still picking up points. Happy days

Would be very naive to think that de gea wouldn't be tempted if one of the 2 Spanish giants came knocking, especially with the fact that he's Spanish! Think he could well be the best in the league currently (or that bloke at Chelsea...)

It depends what man u can do. If they are back in the CL I can see them being very stubborn. They have spent so much money for them to lose a prize asset like de gea.

And what?
Take of it what you will. If you don't like stats then don't comment.
Forster has done very well this season. That bloke at Chelsea is actually miles down. Europe wide that German lad smashes it. He is almost double the next best.

Hope we don't lose de gea, top player, good age.
Maybe a bit of loyalty given the support he's had, plenty of spaniards in the squad now too.

There's no loyalty in football but I'd be disappointed if de Gea left. United could quite easily have thrown him under the bus and irreparably damaged his confidence but by sticking with him he's developed into a phenomenal goalie.

I think you'll find if I want to comment then I will. More to the point though, I don't think that is a stat that tells you who the best keeper is.

Like most stats of that nature it is one without much context (for all we know forster's "saves" could all just have been daisy cutters)

What I do know is that De Gea's saves have been crucial to us beating Everton, Arsenal and Stoke.

You are getting a bit passive aggressive mate.anyway its just a stat, its on topic and a perfectly valid comment.its a very telling stat and a major reason why Southampton are 3rd. He isn't proven enough for anyone to state he is the best . But maybe our Scottish cousins would have something more to add.

And I was asking what impact you thought it had in the discussion of best keeper. Instead you reacted to it. Never mind, its not important.
I'm in a good mood tonight. Depleted squad still and two games in a few days but got through for 6 points from those. Important period and test that we've stood up to so far

That's a fair point but the saves tonight and against Everton were top notch.
The last two goals he conceded were top class strikes and I wouldn't expect any keeper to save them but they'd effect his saves to goal ratio which is a bit of a nonsense.
Howard in his 13 save game or whatever it was didn't make a single top class save but statistically it looks awesome.

I think that was ironic based on my previous comments Hammersmith. But i still agree with it. Arsenals finishing wasn't the best. And we see what Howard does time and time again . He gets down low early. Chip it and you score. Belgium went low every attempt.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
It was tongue in cheek
I think they were class bits of goalkeeping personally, not world class save, photo worthy stuff, but top class anticipation, positioning and command of his goal.
I suppose some of the things about Howard's were they were quick stops, tight range and often in succession. I think Howard is occasionally absolutely extraordinary and you can see why United wanted him all those years ago. But hes also inconsistent

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
Even as a palace fan I can admit that Howard's bad keeping gifted us that game this season. He made two vital errors from what I remember. But yeah all keepers have pluses and minuses.. Some times there is nothing they can do, they can also be the villain of the game after making 5 world class saves and then they do something that looks insane that supposedly costs them the game..
Keeping has been quite a big deal this year. Schezney isnt right, neither is the Liverpool lad and neither has Howard. I bet these teams are looking at chelseas benches thinking wtf!
I still think Cech is the best keeper in the PL and he isn't even playing.. Someone must go for him in Jan surely.
