We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
First topic message reminder :
You're both quite awful, but I wouldn't rule anybody out of anything yet. Liverpool are THIRTEENTH and they are just five points off a CL spot (although, they might give up on it this year, so they can make a run for it next year). The teams are just all so close this season, u don't think it would have even cleared up by Christmas (except Chelsea winning the league, they should be coronated by then). Citeh are basically trying the Suárez trick with Agüero, and while it's working at the moment, I'd say with his injury track record, the one with the thunder thighs is not someone you want to base your entire season around. If Agüero's out, Citeh struggle (hell, with Agüero in they've made heavy weather). I'd back both Utd and Arsenal to make it, but If Southampton can make it out of December still top five, I think it begins to get interesting

Great cross and a great header by Andy Carroll. Great to see him back!

Yet, at the moment, these two teams are a higher placed game than Man united Liverpool next weekend. And this is the Premier League, the quality is reasonably relative. For the most part United Chelsea was a dull game, and the quality was stifled. It's almost this myth where only the top sides can play poor and be interesting.
Quiet today, think the goal shocked everyone. Or the £50 tickets. Two great goals, that header was a beaut. Hope he can get back into the England squad and we can stop wasting a space on Lambert

But United vs Liverpool will always be a tasty affair no matter what position. This game today won't but it still seems to be ok because of the quality both teams have and the situation they are both in currently. United vs Chelsea is a tense game, that will always be that so that is why it is interesting because you don't expect a bore 0-0 with nothing to play for.
Carroll and Lambert are similar players really. Don't think either players are better personally, both the same for me.

Talking about clinical nature, Bony has had one touch in the West Ham box this game and he scored. Simple. But I'm sure Gary Monk won't be pleased with that, I wouldn't be. Only one touch in the box?

Is he denying a goal scoring opportunity if he still has a shot on goal? Seems a tad harsh but he does foul him

Is today the annual Andy Carroll plays a good match day, England recalls are mentioned only for next week him to be off injured for 6 months again?
It's becoming as much part of the annual events such as Black Friday, Talk like a Pirate day and Steak and BJ day.

Played advantage, cos there was one. But its a foul, he's last man, off he goes. Thought it was very well done by the ref actually

It was tongue in cheek as I want neither particularly in the set up, if a Plan B for England is to stick a lump up front then we'll never escape the father coach mentality from the grassroots. Though with your fave player for some time being Grant Holt its falling on deaf ears.

Silly to call him just a lump. And hipster football can't use these cliche phrases to degrade players who aren't 5'4. Crossing and movement off the big man takes skill, so do those headers. It's these things that hurt our football, one idea rather than amalgamation. Let alone that I'd imagine Carroll is a stronger two footed player than most of England's starting 11, which takes technical skill

He's the footballing version of Tyson Fury.
A thug with little skill who's made his way up far past his actual ability based on his rep and size yet has never actually done anything of note.
Might as well get them all in long shorts and kicking pig bladders round the pitch if we're going back to the dark ages.

For us he was brilliant in the championship, proved he could score in differing ways in the premier league too. Hardly a thug, how many sending offs does he have, one maybe? He just uses his size as an advantage, just as ronaldo uses his pace as an advantage, so getover it. Why not play to your advantage & strengths? Underrated technically & has a wand of a lleft foot with such power, has scored some cracking goals, not just headers. Look, he's not amazing but he's a good option or alternative to the norm.

Must have forgotten him allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, punching a photographer, breaking a teammates jaw, glassing someone etc

Alan Hutton of all people! But that was shocking from Leicester really defensively... Brilliant save by Schmeicel (76mins).
On the point of note about Carroll, I've made my view clear that he is no better than Lambert. Crouch is on the same level. They would be good to take to a World Cup or in the squad as a different option alongside Welbeck, Sturridge and Rooney.
Lambert, physical, good at penalties.
Crouch, tall, always win headers, better of the 3 at set pieces because of his height.
Carroll is also physical and wins a lot of headers and has a really powerful shot as well.
All have useful attributes, Carroll for the future, but for now, Lambert/Crouch would be best for now.
Konchesky off because the challenge was a booking and then of his reaction which is why Alan Hutton got a booking. Although, they did both lead their heads in, could have been read for both really.

So Paul Lambert has his Villa side above Everton and two points off Spurs and Liverpool, with basically a shoestring budget in the summer.

Hopefully we strengthen in January to avoid last years collapse & seeing as we will be missing Cisse/Tiote/Abeid for a month. In reality, Ashley will see that we are safe, won't invest most likely & will force Pardew to tell the fans, that the return of Siem De Jong is like a 'major new signing'.
We've done amazing & full credit to Pardew, we can go into the Arsenal game as a free hit really, Sissoko is suspended too which will hurt us. Fully expect us to be around that 8-10 position all year, nothing more, nothing less.

Carroll is by far and away the best of those three in the air something that despite his height Crouch is pretty poor at, in fact he rarely ever wins a header. Would rather take none of them myself but at a push a fully fit Carroll is a more effective player in the target man role.

Great win that.
Could have been more if not for Schmichael.
2 wins in a row now.
Great stuff.
Hutton is looking decent this season.
Cissokho on the other hand poor.
Hope Westwood gets back soon.
Midfield is still pretty poor.
Grealish looked ok when he came on.
Like to see more of him.
We turned a small corner, lets hope it continues.
Beat those Baggies next saturday.
7 goals in todays 2 games.
No snore fest there.

I did say Hutton had it in him earlier in the season. He stands up well in international football but is a bit of an enigma as in his pace is a great asset in supporting attacks or covering back but sometimes he gets lazy.
