We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
First topic message reminder :
You're both quite awful, but I wouldn't rule anybody out of anything yet. Liverpool are THIRTEENTH and they are just five points off a CL spot (although, they might give up on it this year, so they can make a run for it next year). The teams are just all so close this season, u don't think it would have even cleared up by Christmas (except Chelsea winning the league, they should be coronated by then). Citeh are basically trying the Suárez trick with Agüero, and while it's working at the moment, I'd say with his injury track record, the one with the thunder thighs is not someone you want to base your entire season around. If Agüero's out, Citeh struggle (hell, with Agüero in they've made heavy weather). I'd back both Utd and Arsenal to make it, but If Southampton can make it out of December still top five, I think it begins to get interesting

Right now only Aguero and Costa are really going to be pushing him for it and both have proved injury prone. Maybe Fabregas.

Also Liverpool have been really bad defensively but I still think 3-0 is a bit flattering to United.
Balotelli has struggled at controlling the ball...a professional footballer worth £60k+ a week is struggling to control the football. I hope he's sold in January, even if he is just let go, that will do.

If we're talking ridiculously early player of the year shouts, I'd say Chelsea's best player has been Matic. He'll never win it, but deserves recognition.

Players to be sold in at least by the summer:
M Balotelli
J Allen
G Johnson
J Enrique
F Borini
Got to bring in a new striker, a new goalkeeper (I'd keep Mignolet as back up), and a better creative midfielder than Joe Allen!

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
A lot of questions for Rodgers...
Why did he decide to make a lot of big changes in such a big game, not one or two, but four of five serious tactical and personnel changes, such a weird game to do that in?
Why did he drop Mignolet after he had not good, but okay games, for Brad Jones a keeper who is most likely only still at the club because he's happy to never play?
Why was Lucas dropped after he had started to give some protection to the defence but Joe Allen kept in who offers so little?
Why bring back the back three, it's never brought success and with a new goalkeeper playing a completely different defensive formation seems to be asking for trouble?
Why start Glen Johnson at centre back, the only good thing was that he was injured before we discovered how terrible that would have been?
So many ridiculous decisions before this game from Rodgers, he's allowed the pressure to get to him and has tried to be clever. He needs to take a leaf out of Mourinho's book and get back to basics, coach defensively properly. Forget high-tempo passing game or whatever Rodgers' philosophy is (because it's changed a lot) and make sure the basics are done properly, get clean sheets, if that means Liverpool are more boring or score less goals that's fine as long as they pick up more points and stop conceding so many goals. He's been found out and needs to show there is more to him than successfully being able to get a system in which to get the best out of Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling.

Rodgers wont change, he never has done, he's too far up his own arse too. Just look at his time at Reading and how that ended, going exactly the same way with Liverpool

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
I couldn't believe the commentary team didn't pick up on Jones' positioning for the third goal, I assumed Van Persie was yards offside he was that far from where he needed to be, he also went far too early for the Rooney goal.
That man De Gea again, easily the best keeper in the league now and can't be too far behind Neuer overall.
Far from a vintage performance but that's now 6 wins in a row, conceding only three goals in the process, it's not pretty but we are making progress.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
Liverpool had enough clear cut chances to win 3 games this afternoon, but, sometimes it just isn't your day, as they found out today. United were clinical. I don't see what the problem with not having many shots is, as long as they score the one's they have and they are clinical then I don't see much of a problem.
Swansea vs Spurs is turning into quite a decent game as well. Spurs are at sea when defending and Swansea don't seem short of creating chances really. But Bony just needs to be a little bit sharper. If they had someone who has a little bit more mobile and with better anticipation with the chances Swansea have had, then it could have easily been 2-1 at least in this game so far.

Apart from flying elbows into Montero.
Ouch! That was nasty from Vertonghen. Both Vertonghen and Lamela on another day could have easily seen red.

Was thinking exactly the same thing, they like Liverpool are masters at wasting money on average players but unfortunately the moment they find a gem they get stolen soon after, Eriksen won't be there much longer.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
Important win today. Didn't play well in my view, way too sloppy in possession and I don't think 3 at the back works at all, we just seem to play ourselves into danger and constantly get caught on the counter. Fellaini did well defensively but was woeful with the ball, constantly gives the ball away. Going forward, if we are having to play a back 3, please please please Van Gaal give Herrera a go, he's great on the ball and works hard defensively also.
All confidence building and hopefully now we can get Rafael, Shaw, Di Maria, Rojo and Smalling back from injury and get Falcao scoring we can start performing better in games. We're in a position where a couple of signings in January may see us challenging for the league, but i'm more than happy with 3rd all day long.

Anyone think Liverpool should go for a double swoop in Vlaar and Benteke in Jan? They get a proven PL cb, who's commanding and brings leadership, something they desperately need, and also a proven PL striker (if he stays fit) who gives them some physical presence and also movement in behind?

Both would be grand. Bony another good idea. Reid should have been taken from us in the summer. You'd have thought that Rodgers would have taken an interest in Welbeck at that price too, a man who has played with Sturridge a lot and works as hard as any striker remaining in this league.
The desperate way they are treating Borini, who the club clearly want rid of, yet would offer better than the nothing they have put up there at times. And the Sterling, Coutinho, Lallana three has been terribly frustrating, they are taking up so much of the same space.
