We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
First topic message reminder :
You're both quite awful, but I wouldn't rule anybody out of anything yet. Liverpool are THIRTEENTH and they are just five points off a CL spot (although, they might give up on it this year, so they can make a run for it next year). The teams are just all so close this season, u don't think it would have even cleared up by Christmas (except Chelsea winning the league, they should be coronated by then). Citeh are basically trying the Suárez trick with Agüero, and while it's working at the moment, I'd say with his injury track record, the one with the thunder thighs is not someone you want to base your entire season around. If Agüero's out, Citeh struggle (hell, with Agüero in they've made heavy weather). I'd back both Utd and Arsenal to make it, but If Southampton can make it out of December still top five, I think it begins to get interesting

Villas gamesmanship was absolutely disgraceful.
As was the referee, 3 minutes injury time?

Id be sympathetic Ent but well i suspect only the delusional United Fans think it was a red card and ive seen quite a few on twitter ( Sensible United fans) thought yellow at best.
Villa did what they had to do and it got them a point and would of been 3 if Bacuna could cross a ball...

Yeah heard Benteke was having words with Bacuna at the end.
Happy enough with the result. Would have taken that at the start.
Great Benteke scored. Could have had a second right after half time but for De Gea.
Onto Swansea boxing day.

He can't really complain, he completely missed the ball and kicked young.
The referee then proceeded to ignore 25 minutes of time wasting.
Played better today ironically and only Evans missing a simple header stopped us gaining 3 points.
not sure van gaals substitutions worked as we were well on top at that stage and we looked unbalanced in the last 20 minutes or so.

Cracking hat trick from Austin, deserves praise. Guess the inevitable England calls will come now, seeing as he's single handedly keeping QPR in the game. Pretty pointless though.
Watched the United game, agree, LVG got it wrong with the changes but he'll say something else no doubt. Good win for Swansea & adds more pressure to Bruce, who's days must be numbered.

His first change was good bringing carrick into midfield.
Whilst it didn't work you can understand wanting di Maria in against 10 men and he had almost free roam on the right wing.
The Wilson sub was poor in my opinion and didn't work out.

I also think today showed yet again that mata is ineffective as a number 10.
Check onto left foot, chip ball over the top to defender/goalkeeper. Repeat.
Should only play In home games.

Heard that Gabby's challenge was not a red. That the sending off was harsh.
Le Tissier who did our game today said the same.
Will catch MOTD later and decide for myself.
Wouldn't surprise me if Young milked it.

Charlie Austin is class. Keep it up son and the England call up is waiting. Major win for QPR but they don't hard make it tough for themselves.

He didn't, agbonlahor went to blast the ball as hard as he could (for some reason), young beat him to it and he smashed his legs.
Could have been a yellow as he was trying to kick the ball but he can't really complain.

Peoples issues should be with agbonlahor for being stupid.

You can't send somebody off for being like one hundredth of a second late in a 50/50 where both guys just go in hard
Hopefully the FA see sense and rescind it and demote Mason

Yes you can, don't be stupid.
He didn't go in for a tackle - he kicked him full force in the knee.
Had he dangled a foot there as late and as high people would be hanging him out to dry.
He could have got a yellow but he didn't go in for a tackle and should be blamed for his stupidity.

Not a sending off for me ent.
Both going for the ball.
Yellow at most.
Great to see Tekkers have a good game. Had Utd's defence in his pocket.
Great goal.
Great to have Delph back to.

I could take it either way - blame the player when instead of going for a tackle he attempts to kick the ball as hard as possible and instead kicks his opponent full force in the knee.
He was all over Evans but he was very poor at the end as that was a brilliant cross from bacuna.

Bacuna was trying to pick out N'Zogbia. Just over cooked it. Not the worst ball.
Thats how i saw it. But your right Benteke should have done better with his run anyway, may have got there.

He definitely would have, he was hanging back a bit looking for some sort of cross field cut back.
I'm relieved he didn't make the run anyway.
Evans needs to man up, this has awaya been his problem. He didn't even make benteke work hard to win the physical battle.

Laughable defending by Burnley, Erikson clearly doesn't touch the ball so why look at the Lino! What a goal by Barnes, what id do to see him upfront again for us. Lamela though class goal, not worth 30 million but what a player.

Not a fan of the way Benteke was having a go at Bacuna anyway.
He aint great although I am a fan of his.
Understand Benteke's frustration. A great result against a team we normally lose against.
One that will be in the top 4 imo.
He does moan a lot though Benteke.

Good play from eriksen but that sums up my frustrations with the current offside rule.
Player passed ball forward to only player ahead of him, who is in an offside position. Defense appeal for offside. Effects own team mates and opponents actions but considered to not be interfering with play and attacking team play on and score.
It is just stupid the current law.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
For all Charlie Austin's goals, he just wouldn't suit England's style, we need able runners, not a fox in the box. He also needs a big man next to him, like Zamora, to create the space for him, again with England, we play one up top. The calls for him in the national side are pointless, Hodgson knows his squad & he'll just be treated like Berahino or Colback was.
Andy Carroll has always had more in the locker than aerial ability, seen it first hand for Newcastle, he was injured at Liverpool & again, like Austin would be for England, Carroll's style wasn't suited to the team. He's now doing it for WHU & without doubt should replace Lambert as the big man option.

Agree, Hodgson knows his squad, can't see any other the three, including Kane, getting amongst the first team. Austin suits playing dogged football & being the fox in the box, can't see England suiting him. Now Carroll is fit, no brainer he should replace Lambert. As for Kane, probably stick him in the u-21 tournament for experience, then bring him into the senior squad. At the end of the day, Hodgson will always revert to Rooney, Sterling, Sturridge & Welbeck as the front four, regardless of the goals scored by an outsider from a lowly placed PL team.

gabbys challenge was a yellow but it wasnt a joke decision as some have said, he steams in and goes in over aggressively. poor challenge that's yellow but the ref will simply say above, and as a result i doubt it will be over turned
anyone else and they say its a painful challenge, because its young he makes the most of it
would also say watching it live, it looked worse than it was because he goes in so quickly
