Manziel is learning school yard football doesn't cut it in the NFL.

Kneeling is a pretty pathetic way to win a game especially when there is plenty of time on the clock still to play. Packers could have won with a TD or got a field goal and left the Cowboys with a few seconds to get a TD.

I expected the Patriots, Seahawks and Packers to win this weekend with the one 'shock' being the Colts winning in Denver.

I understand the rule but really, that's a catch by Dez. The NFL, under Roger Goodell, has become 1st class at making a complete ass of itself.

Too much on the line for that to ever happen. Would you want to be the HC who carried on playing when he could have been in victory formation, then lost because his QB threw a pick 6, then lost an onside kick?!

As much as I don't like the Cowboys and I know it probably sounds daft given that they've just lost but I can't help thinking that they'd have given Seattle a better game next week than Green Bay will.

I can understand it from a coaches view. I was thinking more about the NFL wanting teams to play out the game trying to score rather than just letting the clock run down.BamBam wrote:mikeygnfl wrote:Kneeling is a pretty pathetic way to win a game especially when there is plenty of time on the clock still to play. Run Lacy into the middle of the line 3 times. We all end up going home with a GB win.

This game seemed the most likely upset to me. Peyton isn't a top tier QB anymore.

Sad to see him go out like that, if he goes out. Which he should.
Not because of the playoff loss, we've all seen that before, but he looked like a boxer that had lost his punch. No velocity on the passes and couldn't fit the ball through the windows. His accuracy was awful too.
If he retires I hope he uses his mad brain skills somewhere, maybe Tennessee.

To say it's a huge off season for Denver would be an understatement.
You can't pay both Thomas's, Ware is past it, you've got huge money tied up in two average corners, and your QB is past it and due 20m I believe.

Elway should spend the offseason building a running game for CJ Anderson and maybe another back. Osweiler doesn't look like he's going to get it done when I've seen him play.
Plus Elway knows all about a running game carrying you to a Super Bowl...

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
Fast forwarded through the game this morning, looks like Peyton is done. Sad to see him go out barely able to throw the ball, but I guess with how serious that neck injury was, pretty much just a matter of time.
The Colts have got to be one of the luckiest franchises around, timing their tanking in line with Peyton and Luck is pretty special.
I like the sound of Luck vs Rodgers, but am expecting to see Brady vs Wilson

He was pretty rubbish for the last month or two, but I think it all comes down to whether (he thinks) it was general decline or a specific injury he can rehab. Can't see it ending well for him if he does come back, but it must be tempting if you can stroll to the playoffs like he can.sodhat wrote:Sad to see him go out like that, if he goes out. I'm only now becoming annoyed about the call against Bryant. I just can't see how it isn't a catch and then a football move.
I get the rule. But it's an idiotic rule.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
Agree. They said Peyton was healthy. If he wasn't 100% towards the end of the season I could see him coming back. I would if the Broncos could start Osweiler for the first half of the season and bring Peyton back in the second half of the season? If John Fox goes and Adam Gase gets promoted maybe Manning could become OC in Denver? They will have Montee Ball back next year as well as CJ Anderson so should have a pretty solid running game.Lowlandbrit wrote:He was pretty rubbish for the last month or two, but I think it all comes down to whether (he thinks) it was general decline or a specific injury he can rehab. I thought he was down by contact just sort of the line. Perhaps if he wasn't shown all week running on the field against the Lions when he shouldn't have been he may have got the benefit of the doubt.sodhat wrote:I'm only now becoming annoyed about the call against Bryant. I don't know if I can see Manning getting into coaching because he's such a perfectionist he'd drive his players into the ground. Media or front office work I think would be something he'd go for, I'd be surprised if he walks away from the game totally.

Todd Bowles to the Jets.
He's from New Jersey which is the only way his decision makes sense.

It looks like Broncos DC Jack Del Rio will be the Raiders new head coach.
The 49ers are close to signing Adam Gase, for some reason, as their head coach apparently.
Dan Quinn was keen in the Jets job but may settle for the Falcons instead.

Going to have to find a new DC by the sound of it, can't help but feel a little worried about what they're doing there. Feels more like a team looking to start again than a team looking to make a final push for the top.

York/Baalke have there yes man. Imagine if Jerruh just fired a HC who took Dallas to 3 conference title games and then hired the D line coach who hasn't really done much to deserve a HC shot. He'd be pillared in the media. It's mental how they're getting away with this.
Add into that they're losing one of the best DC's in the league in Fangio as well. Spells disaster to me

Time to bring this back from gambling to important things; the starters for everyone's beloved all-star game have been announced. I speak, obviously, of the Puppy Bowl: http://www.animalplanet.com/tv-shows/puppy-bowl/photos/xi-starting-lineup/
And for those that don't enjoy puppies, here are the participants for the Kitten Bowl (what it lacks in history, it makes up in puns): http://uk.eonline.com/news/614905/2015-kitten-bowl-check-out-photos-of-all-the-adorable-players
