What a finish! Several bookies had paid out on a Kaymer win as German efficiency is almost a given but he saved his two worst holes for when he was playing his last ten. This allowed two other players to sneak up on the outside and pass him. Those who picked Kaymer shouldn't feel so disappointed as his poor finish to the round also saw him pick up worst round points. Gary Stal was the main beneficiary of the Kaymer Kollapse and his round of 65 was also the joint best of the day. Just three Fantasy Leaguers picked him, and two of those also picked McIlroy and Kaymer to finish with a 1, 2, and 3.
After round 3 16 players were in scoring positions and as stated lots of points were to be dished out. After the final round 17 scored points. So what does this mean for the final positions. Well McLaren was caught by 1GrumpyGolfer and Raycastleunited. They had the 1, 2, and 3. They also had a 9th place finish in Jamie Donaldson and Ross Fisher respectively. However, and here's the crucial bit, Raycastleunited had Branden Grace who sneaked into 20th place picking up 5 valuable points. 1GrumpyGolfer didn't have anyone else in the placings so he loses the playoff. McLaren was just squeezed out. Kwinigolfer also picked Gary Stal and shared 4th place with Kouchi.
Ned B-H, Barragan, Boyhyde, SetupDetermines, and Hibbz pulled out a top 10 finish. Davie, I'm Never Wrong, Incontinentia, Goldwolf, Mary, and Pedro finished in mid table obscurity. LadyPutt finished just outside the relegation zone, BlueCoverman's charge fell just short. Beninho and Super_Realist swapped places at the bottom.
Justin Rose and Ernie Els matched Stal's 65. Rose earned points for a bunch of Fantasy Leaguers. Andy Sullivan matched Kaymer's round and earned points for a few Fantasy Leaguers. Jason Palmer finished last on +2, one of four players who didn't finish under par.

The 10th edition of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship opens the Middle East Swing. Chris DiMarco won the first event before Paul Casey and Martin Kaymer swapped the next five titles, the only repeat winners, before Robert Rock, Jamie Donaldson, and Pablo Larrazabal lifted the title. Casey is the only previous winner to miss the event, Kaymer is the only one to actually defend the title, and Larrazabal must be hoping to buck that trend.
World Number 1, Rory McIlroy, puts his legal worries and troubles behind him for the time being and opens his 2015 defence of his Race to Dubai title. He's joined by three other top 10 players in Henrik Stenson, Justin Rose, and the invited Rickie Fowler. There are another seven players from the top 50 in the OWGR in attendance this week. A total of 57 players are providing value to the OWGR points on offer for this event, for more detail see the OWGR threads that GPB, Robopz, et al contribute to. One of my Category B favourites, Andy Sullivan, fresh off his maiden victory over Charl Schwartzel, is also in the field along with four others whose fine finishes last week got them into this event; Matthew Fitzpatrick, Paul Maddy, who BlueCoverman can tell you about, Lee Slattery, and Alessandro Tadini.
There are three Categories where you will need pick three players, plus reserve, from each one. There are bonus points available if you get all of your picks through in any category. Get all 9 picks through and you get an even bigger bonus. It's all way down at the bottom in the scoring section if you are interested.
This is a full field with cut event, cut points will be available; see above.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 9 players as follows:
Pick 3 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 9 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be eligble for points for all completed rounds and making the cut if they withdraw after the cut. It must be apparent that the player completed their round for them to be eligible for either the low round, worse round, top 5, or top 10 low round scores. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply. Example: Pick 3 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4, 5, and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1, 3, and 7, reserve 5 from Category B, players 1, 2 and 17, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.
Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Resurecting the Fantasy League that GoldWolf started, Venice continued, and I fell into somewhat. Looking to see if any more interest is generated. Ideas welcome, whether they're acted upon....
First tee times in the wee hours for UK folks on Thursday morning, for US folks this starts around 10pm EST on Wednesday evening.

I don't know if I've got the hang of this, or whether I will be able to last the season. (Are all Euro Tour events counting? Or just selected ones?)
Anyway, here are my picks.
(A) McIlroy, Donaldson, Willet (R) Fleetwood.
(B) R Fisher, Grace, Karlsson (R) Wattel
(C) Quiros, Slattery, Havret (R) Mulroy

INW - if it's following the format of the last two years on the other place then it will be a mixture of European tour and PGA tour with maybe the occasional ladies event thrown in for variety

Re: Fantasy League 2015 - Winter/Spring Session - Event #01
Thanks to everyone on here for joining in. We've enjoyed it on "the other place" for a couple of years but it will be so much better with more people involved. For those who wonder what I do as Judge, if there's a dispute on anything , my word is final!
So here are my picks - a bit difficult because, apart from the Saffers and the few Euros who made the trip over, there's not much form to go by
Cat A: Rory McIlroy, Henrick Stenson & Alexander Levy (res Danny Willett)
Cat B: Marc Warren, Tyrrell Hatton & Robert Karlsson (Andy Sullivan)
Cat C: Lee Slattery, Matthew Fitzpatrick & David Drysdale (res Alvaro Quiros)

Good work Grumps - and it looks like a lot of work - good luck. One question... shouldn't the worst round and last place finisher get a hefty portion of negative points - seems wrong to reward poor play, much better to start dishing out 2 stroke penalties

The points are there to allow those who happen to pick that week's chopper some reward and hopefully keep them interested; there's nothing worse than making picks and nothing happens. Bad play used to get rewarded the same as good play so that's been changed for this go around and the last place points have been reduced to the levels of a 16th to 20th place finisher, previously it was the equivalent of the 11th to 15th place finisher.

As Davie already said; it's a mixture between the Euro and PGA Tours which is why I try to pick the events that have the bigger names rather than obscure ones. Back in the day we did throw some LPGA/LET events in but haven't done for a while despite LadyPutt's interest.
European Tour events are typically easier for me to keep up with as I can record scores and make updates while I'm at work but I think having PGA Tour events makes it more interesting for UK folks watching in the evening because your pick might be on TV...

Ha, not many choppers in the field and I didn't see his name in the tee times so I think he didn't qualify for this one. Maybe I should have used some parenthec's, pairenthesees, brackets to make it clearer....
The linking of Blue and Paul Maddy was a reference to another thread where Blue said he happened to play in a pro/am that was recently won by Paul Maddy.

To be fair Davie, the admins let the golf section run itself and I doubt they're even aware of this thread. If I'd seen any suggestion (must have missed it if there has been) to open this up to the other forums I'd have certainly been happy to run the idea by them and am sure they'd have been willing.

There's a few Cat A picks not living up to their high rankings Kwini but Stenson does seem to be a rusty Swede as opposed to a trusty steed in this race.

Fifteen Fantasy Leaguers got off to a good start with some doing better than most. Martin Kaymer was picked by almost half of the League and he obliged with a 64 which was the round of the day; there's far too many to go through so see below for those clever folks. Two others succumbed to the phenomenom know as LPRPitis. Named after LadyPutt this affliction causes the sufferer much angst as the reserve picks often score better than the full team. BlueCoverman and Barragan are under quarantine at the moment.
Five Fantasy Leaguers backed up Kaymer's play with another pick that shot 66 or lower. These scores get you into the Top 5 Low Round scores in round 1 and earns more points. A couple of old hands in Boyhyde and Raycastleunited are joined by newcomers Kouchi, Kwinigolfer, and McLaren. These guys hold the lead at this early stage. LadyPutt was the only other Fantasy Leaguer to have two picks shoot 66 or lower but she didn't pick Kaymer. She's joined by the remaining Kaymer pickers.
Honourable mentions go to Barragan, Beninho, Goldwolf, I'm Never Wrong, and Super_Realist. These all picked one player that shot 66. Hibbz, Incontinentia, Mary, and SetupDetermines are yet to trouble the scorer but it's only round 1 and there's a lot to play for.
At the wrong end of the leaderboard Jin Jeong had an 80 but the closest picks to him only had 76s.
With almost half the field picked 40 are under par and will need to stay and improve to make the cut. Some 14 others are at par or above and these will need to go low to make the weekend. Everyone has at least one pick that needs to do just that and unusually it's Cat A picks that are letting the sides down.

Jin Jeong has comfortably wrapped up the worse round again with an 86. Bernd Wiesberger holds the low round at the moment with a 65 but Thomas Pieters is putting together another good round and could challenge that and the overall lead. Pieters -5 through 12. Cut line at -2 and looks like we'll say goodbye to a few picks especially if the ones still on the course don't pull their finger out.

After two rounds we wave goodbye to 17 of our picks and some wave goodbye to more than others. Henrik Stenson was the cause of much heartbreak as 11 Fantasy Leaguers missed out on Category A cut bonus points. Sixteen Fantasy Leaguers picked up at least one cut bonus, five picked up two cut bonuses, and two came the closest to picking up all of the cut bonuses but Stenson waylaid Kouchi and Rafa Cabrera Bello did for Ned B-H.
11 picks are within the top 15 players after round 2 and Bernd Wiesberger jumped 63 places up the leaderboard by shooting 65. That was the low round of the day despite Rory McIlroy's fireworks and Wiesberger earned bonus points for Barragan, Hibbz, McLaren, and SetupDetermines. Jin Jeong has had a few days to forget, he followed his round 1 80 with an 86 in round 2. It was the worst round of the day by far.
More bonus points are on offer in round 3 for good scoring and the leaderboard is very congested. Tune in tomorrow for the next thrilling installment of Fantasy League golf.
