First topic message reminder :
I know it's not premier league related, but I was just reading that both of Scunthorpes goalkeepers suffered broken arms in today's game.

I like Giroud. I remember him scoring a proper striker's goal against Southampton last season. Boruc dallied on the ball too long, Giroud took it off the keeper and slotted it in the onion bag. Boruc was slated in the media - that was understandable and fair enough but it overlooked Giroud's instinct and awareness to see and seize the chance.

Lucky to keep it to 1-0.
We're still in this.
To the tune of 'and the beat goes on'
'and the wait goes on' (for a league goal).

Arsenal will be happy with that first half performance but disappointed to be only one up. Villa have to hang in there and look to make the most of any chance that comes their way. Can't really see the Villains stealing a point but they're still in it for the time being ....

Nothing great about Giroud, even I'd admit that. Scores vs Villa 'wow' big deal, any decent striker, given the service he gets regularly is going to score PL goals. Where he gets found out to be average is in Europe, where it counts & where Arsenal always are found out.

Oh Westy! Been out for half an hour and return to find out you've ended up on the wrong end of a thumping!
And a fifth just now!
Liam - you overlook ''where it counts''. If you don't do it against Villa and the like, you don't even get into Europe.

Giroud was top points scorer after Suarez last year I think. I have just made him my captain so fingers crossed.
I was right about the goal spree but unfortunately only 1 +assist for my capt.

Giroud is a very good finisher- just not an amazing all round striker, he has great touch and feet and works at arsenal- i doubt he would score bundles at teams that play in a different way, but for arsernal that create all over he is worth it for his finishing potential.
BTW I can see us finishing higher than you pal.

You want a bet? 7 points behind & we have the momentum with Super Carver.
Didn't you bet Welbeck would hit 10 league goals this season & I said he wouldn't? That one isn't looking too good for either.

What do people think about Darren Fletcher's move to Albion? I'm not sure he's the right signing for a Tony Pulis side. We should have signed Robert Huth and lumped it up to Anichebe.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
You do know Pulis has tried to transition away from long ball football. Yes, he organises teams defensively but he made Palace good to watch. Fletcher isn't amazing but is experienced, intelligent on the ball & adds strength to the midfield in protecting that backline, for a free, it's a decent signing to help during a relegation scrap. The fact you wanted Huth to lump it up towards Anichebe is mind boggling.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
I didn't want Pulis as manager, and I never will. You should have seen how pathetic we were against Spurs at the weekend. Spurs, with Paulinho and Lamela in their side. We had a few chances, but then all teams do against Spurs.
I do realise Pulis isn't the long-ball merchant his reputation alludes to - nor is Fat Sam - but in terms of how our team has shaped up under Pulis, I'm surprised to hand out a 2.5 year deal to a player like Fletcher. I hope he surprises me and utilises Fletcher's passing. Berahino could really benefit.

I wouldn't take the job if they paid me £5m a year, if I were Sherwood. Poor team with one decent attacker - Austin - expectations far beyond reasonable, media scrutiny aplenty. Chairman who seems to know nothing about football, nor business (announcing stadium plans for land they don't own?). Awful job to take. High-risk, little-reward.

The flip side being Sherwood would be a poor choice for any premier league job compared to most options and wouldn't get anything better than QPR. So he'd basically be getting a punt at staying up and then one of the favourites for promotion next year. Could be a lot worse

The timing is terrible, truly embarrassing. So basically, he's citing upcoming knee surgery as the reason for quitting. If he knew about the knee surgery, surely you would of resigned weeks ago, prior to the window shutting, to give the new manager an opportunity. That excuse stinks, if he'd got Adebayor last night, Harry would of been jumping & running around last night in front of those Sky cameras.

He is a top manager. You could use the same arguments against mourinhio if you wanted.. He just has better players.
He is a highly under valued coach and he can play football when he has the players. Fletcher is a good move and shows great intent as he isn't a defensive player.

Typical Harry. Puts clubs in trouble. Spends money that isn't there, does awful when managing them and sends them into financial situations. QPR getting into trouble with FFP, Portsmouth into administration then he left and his only good spell was at Spurs, where he still quit. Whoever thought he was the next England manager, give me a break.

None of that is the fault of the manager, it's not as if Redknapp is the one signing the cheques so to speak, he can only spend the money he's given and for that the owners and chairman are to blame.

All the papers seem to think FIFA should have banned you. But the FA has no chance doing it as you didn't break the cup rules.
Did he play once Senegal was allready out the cup. Is that west hams defence?
To be honest I assumed they were still in the cup.
It's kind of ridiculous either way and the footballing governing bodies rules seem to be like conflicting religious doctrines that can be interpreted anyway they want.
But blatter and co are getting champagne and lobsters this friday on you either way.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
I'm pretty sure the fact that Blatter gets a lot of support from the African nations means he needs to be seen to punish us.
However, we told Senegal that Sakho had a back injury that prevented him from flying. A back injury he picked up on international duty with Senegal; not in a game, but from their physio. So he couldnt fly to the ACON. He didnt fly with the squad to Bristol, he got a limo if I remember correctly. This was a few weeks after he'd been ruled out of our side injured, and he'd missed a few games. He'd missed games before the tournament too.
But then he played two days before they went out. He played for about 20 mins. Almost like he wasnt fully fit. I believe we invited them to send a doctor to check him over but they didnt.
Its all a load of nonsense, but what do the media do usually with this stuff?

Bidding for the Premier League rights 2016-2019 closes on Friday with Sky/BT & Discovery Communications (own eurosport) to bid. There are rumors that the richest TV company in the world beIN Sport may also bid for the rights. It would bring in 4 Billion over the 3 years, This is on top of the 204m that BBC have paid for the MOTD Highlights...

This deal is going to turn the PL into a serious cash cow. Added to the eurozone problems.. We should be even more attractive to the best players in the world..
