I know it's not premier league related, but I was just reading that both of Scunthorpes goalkeepers suffered broken arms in today's game.

Being Spurs i suspect it will Lloris sweeping or Danny Rose, It's always Danny Rose he just doesn't defend well.

QPR midfielder Joey Barton has just been booked for his seventh consecutive Premier League game. That's a record
Apparently Gerrard has been outran by Phil Dowd Yep he's legs have gone if that's true...

Nope, now it's Lovren, guessing Can is going to be moving into midfield then. Not confident in the back three at all now.

If Gerrard's tackle is a foul, then that Dier one has to be a penalty.

Great result, good performance, showed a lot of resiliency to take the lead three times.
Also Balotelli just walked off at the end instead of celebrating or shaking hands with other players...I cannot wait until he's gone. Just a stupid, stupid boy with nowhere near enough footballing talent to make up for it.

So Spurs blow there good work inside 4 days and drop to 6th...Arsenal somehow back in the top 4 until United batter Burnley with their long ball football. It's going well weirdly but won't last being February

Excellant win and great game for the neutrals. We made life difficult for ourselves as we seemed to switch off after we scored. However we closed the gap further, and are in great form and starting to look closer to the team we were last year!
Dreading these Europa league games, especially as they are sandwiched in around games with Southampton and City..

Good win for Liverpool. Should be an awesome finish to the season with so many teams competing for the last two champions league spots (united, arsenal, southampton, tottenham and Liverpool). Really hope the europa league doesn't become a distraction for the Liverpool team. Am I right in thinking though that this year the winner of the europa league gains entry to the champ ions league next season?

Yes therefore it's a fine balancing act for Rodgers as at some point he's going to have to commit to one or the other. As it stands we still have to play all the teams above us (barring Spurs now) so our fate is in out hands. At least two of those games are at Anfield too.

You have two legitimate sniffs into the CL.
The good thing about last night was it showed you had a very good bench and you sturridge is back and you could perform without sterling.
Lallanas Impact won you the game and if balotteli can make a few more runs into the 6 yarder he could prove to being another useful sub.
So you have a slightly better squad IMO than totenham. And you are basically in exactly the same situation in regards to Europe and domestic.
You have to go hard for both. I wouldnt put all my eggs in one basket.

With Sterling, Ibe, Coutinho and Lallana putting balls into the box you'd think Mario would finally have figured out what it is Rodgers wants of him. It was nice to see him actually making those run into the six yard area finally rather that hanging around the edge of the penalty area looking for a chance to shoot.
Far too early to say Rodgers has finally got through to Balotelli but there's definitely a glimmer of hope.

Everton could end up finishing just outside the top 10 but walking of with that CL spot and liverpool and totenham could end up with nothing more than UEFA!!
Liverpool you might us well give us(palace) a bye into the next round of the FA cup- those extra games wont help matters

With the way we have been playing, the fact that the new players seem to have finally settled (well most of them) and the form we have been in, I think we should be aiming for 3rd. In which case it wont matter who wins the Europa League we will be in the Champions league.
Also, Man City aren't so far out of reach that they can't be pulled back into the scrap for top 4. Few more bad results for them and all of a sudden the chasing pack are all in and around the same points.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
I think your delusional to think City will crumble back towards the chasing pack. Toure & Bony will inject new life into them. I think Everton's players know the deal now, expect them to go far in the Europa, if Martinez can rotate in the PL & save the best line up for those Thursday games, we know hey are capable in any night & already dismantled Wolfsburg with ease & that's no mean feat, at that level below Champs Lge.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
Tonight's game against Stoke will show what City are made of. The Britannia on a cold Wednesday night will be walkover for a team who are struggling a bit at the minute. They really do have to get the win otherwise they can kiss the title goodbye and the realization that they've lost it may have a catastrophic effect on their somewhat fragile mentality.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
Merely pointing out that based on the number of points they are clear of the pack (5), that all it would take is 2/3 bad results before they are on a similar amount of points to the chasing pack and are therefore involved in the top 4 scrap. At no point did I say i believed it would happen, just that it isn't completely infeasible that it could happen.

Be interesting to see if Mario plays with Sturridge and the original plan after he was bought can be used. Can see him being more effective with a runner in behind like Sturridge creating havoc and space

I really hope not, we finally have a system that is working and mario isn't part of it IMO.
Need to stick with what is working. Think at most he should be used as an impact sub. Would much rather see Sturridge, Sterling, Coutinho as our main attacking 3 ahead of the 2 CM's, with Lallana and Ibe being used as subs/rotational options. With Moreno and markovic in the wingback positions, although based on last night Ibe and markovic could alternate.

Interesting you say that, I think we were easily the better team against everton and looked like the only team interested in winning. In the mersyside derby away from home i rarely expect us to play them of the park, but thought we did play well. Suppose its all about perspective though, and my opinion isnt exactly an unbiased one..
Its clear to see that the change in formation has coincided directly with our serious upturn in form, and whilst I dont think it is the only contributing factor it is possibly the main one. So, for the moment at least, I think we should stick with it.

Also, and i probably should have lead with this point... Ballotelli doesnt deserve to be on the pitch regarless of the formation we play! He needs to earn his place, and he most certainly has not. However last nights effort was a move in the right direction (if only the tiniest of moves...)

I'm not buzzing about him, but hes got a lot of talent and he obviously wasnt bought to be the solo striker, so I'd be interested to see if he can be unlocked with Sturridge in the team.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
Easy to say this in hindsight but, it doesn't look as if Ballotelli will ever fit in with the fast, high energy, high intensity pressing game that Rodgers wants the team to play. He could play it if he chose too, but so far he never seems like he wants to put the effort in. Would much rather wait for others to do the work, get the ball, do a few turns/stepovers, then fire a shot from outside the box either against a defender or wide...
