We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
First topic message reminder :
I know it's not premier league related, but I was just reading that both of Scunthorpes goalkeepers suffered broken arms in today's game.

Wasn't the case last night although I agree it's what he did with annoying regularity in the past. If he reverts to type then he'll be slated but if the message has finally sunk in then he deserves a bit of credit for altering his natural game for the greater good. Got my fingers crossed for him, but it wouldn't surprise me if last night was a blip rather than a glimpse of the future.lfc91 wrote:Easy to say this in hindsight but, it doesn't look as if Ballotelli will ever fit in with the fast, high energy, high intensity pressing game that Rodgers wants the team to play. He could play it if he chose too, but so far he never seems like he wants to put the effort in. Would much rather wait for others to do the work, get the ball, do a few turns/stepovers, then fire a shot from outside the box either against a defender or wide...

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
John Hartson believes football players will soon be earning £1m a week. I can hardly criticise this view to be honest. I don't know who it will be but they will sure be lucky. Shows the mass increase of money in the UK at this present time. I'm wondering how long it will be before the UK enters a huge hyperinflation stage with footballers wages, its ridiculous really. But then again, how do you try and lower wages now? If a player earns £100,000 a week they won't go and accept £20,000 that's for sure. All of these clauses in their contracts just allow their wages to go up and up and up even further. It then gets to a point when someone at a top club earns £20,000 a week, all the clauses increase their wages over 3 years making it £33,000 a week and then all of a sudden it comes to re-negotiating their contract to £40,000 a week (this is just an example). So within 2 negotiations, a players wage has doubled. Then the cycle just restarts again. This just becomes beyond ridiculous do these prices.

Well the FA need to take 2 billion out of it and develop grass routes footy!!
the teams do not need it all. Yes it also shouldn't go back into the FA's back pockets either.. But we have to be realistic- in a few years when the forign deals have caught up(asia will possibly double to 2b- its curently 1b)- the PL rights will be selling for insane amounts of money in total.- the bundesliga's rights sell for a total of 1bill over a 3 year period!!- the PL's could be 9 times the amont.
But what all this means added to the dodgy euro- The PL could be able to take just about every decent player on the planet.

Yeah it really is a nothing job nowadays.
Villa could really do with dropping down and reinventing themselves in a lower division. Risk is you don't get out mind. But at the moment all they do is scrape survival annually.

Its not the players that is the problem, its the manager that didn't fit the club, lets be honest. You can't play on the break and develop players from the youth system and start them, it just doesn't work. When you are at the bottom, you need players to do it here and now.
Although it must be said, money was tight.

You cant develop players from the youth team and then start them? To be fair, its kept them up with no money for a few years. Problem seems to have been that he gave up on the counter play but its very hard to change your style and that combined with their other problems just means they go nowhere.
Still think Lerner is to blame for a lot of the issues but managers have done better with worse chairmen and similar money so its hard to argue either

Think it only makes Aston Villa more likely to go down, not a great deal of good managers available, January window already gone and Villa have a really small squad.

Certainly won't be appointed at a Premier League club, would have to take a surprise team up.

He had to go. 5 wins all season is pathetic.
Signed some absolute dross, despite not having a lot of money to spend.
We may still go down, but think we would have defiantly gone down with him.
Yes the players must take some blame.
First off I hope we stay up.
Whoever comes in it will be a challenge, I hope the person is up for it.

Still have him over Sherwood. He's better than half the options most lower half teams look at when their manager goes. I don't think his record of signings is too bad either

You had a hard on for Lambert for a long time.
Fair enough, he did well for you, not for us, thats the way it goes.

United 2-1 up, Smalling again. United might look like a league one side, however, they are grinding results & hoovering up the points. Typical United performance & result

Its time for Villa to stick or twist really.
A year to reinvent the club has done wonders for a few former big clubs.

Doesn't always work indeed, and he's clearly outstayed his welcome tbf, but I stick by the awful fans comment. It isn't even that bad at Villa and they've got a half full morgue, imagine how awful the turnout would be in you guys went down. Terrible fans

Worst performance at OT this season. Clueless defending, awful in possession, with Van Gaal's position of players worrying. Rooney was playing cdm!! 3rd highest prem scorer playing holding mid, while two donkey's are doing nothing up front. Get Wilson and Mata on!

It is that bad, hence the empty seats.
Terrible football.
I can understand people saying terrible fans, in that you should stick by your team through the bad times.
On the other hand Lambert not liked.
The football ids dreadful. Lot of money to go to games etc.
Making a statement with their feet.
And please no McLeish jokes.
We may not be in this position if we had of signed Wessi, eh olly

Falcao has been dogshite, get him off and bring Wilson on, at least with RVP you feel he might bury a chance if he gets one, with Falcao i'm expecting him to fall over his own leg.
