Andy Lee vs Peter Quillin? 11 April in America

Andy Lee will defend his WBO Middleweight title in New York in April, according to a report in today’s Irish Daily Star.

The Limerick boxer became WBO champion after defeating Matt Korobov in Las Vegas in December and had spoken of his interest in having his first title defence in Ireland. A fight in the 3 Arena in March was spoken of as the most likely option.

But a bigger purse and more high profile fight has reportedly persuaded Lee to instead fight in New York in April.

He is expected to fight Peter Quillin - an American boxer undefeated since he turned professional in 2008.

The New York fight will be broadcast live on NBC and come with a purse of approximately $1m - far more than would have been up for grabs if Lee chose to fight in Ireland.

I thought that BJS fight was pretty much confirmed but seems to be different. Perhaps he was paid to step aside and will get to fight the winner of this instead.

How do we all see this one going anyway? Haven't seen too much of Quillin so don't really know how this fight will go.

Bit disappointed to see Quillin get a title shot so soon after he dumped the belt, but that's boxing.

Will always remember asking him on the podcast if he'd go to Argentina to fight in front of a crowd like Martin Murray did and he got really annoyed, guys a tool.

If Quillin wins, I hope RocNation put another huge bid in for his mandatory and he has to vacate again. Can't stand Quillin. WAR LEE!

He's a soft world champ.  On the Barker, Macklin, Murray level etc.  He has that power punch that keeps him dangerous, but he's not especially great.


Agree would love the BJS fight to come off.
