Steffan, I don't either. He seems to just rub some people up. I think its still the hang over of all those people who felt he was over hyped at the beginning. He was but he's decent enough and it was hardly his fault he was over hyped.
Personally, he comes across a well grounded, well intentioned kid who seems to want to fight the best, as you say. I like him and support him, for this reason.

I like Khan and cheer him on every fight but unfortunately there are a lot of cretins in the world who can't look past certain things.

If you're a nice guy like Bruno people want you punched out because you're "playing the game..."
If you're cocky and full of yourself people want you punched out because you're an a**hole...

I normally cheer for the Brit in any given fight. Obviously it's partisan and arbitrary, but no more so than the concept of sport in general.

I cheer khan on. I understand he comes across as having an over inflated opinion of himself, but that doesn't stop froch from being popular. I think he comes across as a decent lad that's not the brightest and puts his foot in his mouth a bit.
But he comes to fight, has plenty of talent is generally in good fights and his chin means there 'a always that element of doubt in his fights. I'll say this about him too. He's brave. It takes courage to let your hands go when you know you're vulnerable in the whiskers department.... One of his problems has been fighting back when he should be playing safe. He's come back from major career setbacks too, which is admirable.
I think brits like to see cocky guys get taken down a peg, and that's how he's perceived... It's a can of worms but in some cases (note: some cases) I do think there's a racist element to it too.

Khan might not be Paccy or Floyd but I would pick him to beat Kell Brook though

Think Khan is one of those people who has a little something for everyone to hate. Loud, Obnoxious, possibly deluded, beatable (the amount of casual fans who hate fighters for having the temerity to lose), and yes, Pakistani Islam. If you're easily offended, you could take your pick.
Me, I like Khan. He's incredibly deluded - "if I beat Collazo, then I deserve to fight Floyd" - but I like that. If you're ambition doesn't exceed your ability then you're not dreaming big enough.

I agree with Milky.........A sizeable minority of the dislike is racial......But in fairness he has made a lot of money due to his ethnicity..........PPV before he won a world title !! Not bad for an Olympic silver medallist.....He's also used the race card himself !! as in the first time he peed off to America moaning..
But he was younger then and no doubt he's matured..
Yes the kid brags but It's part of his cultural heritage bragging....
Never met an Asian who hasn't been proud of his achievements... and has been slow to tell you what they are.......and why not !!!!........Shout it out..
Khan is irritating at times but we need fighters like him around...

Personally I think anyone who would not cheer on Khan due to racial or religious reasons are not real boxing fans anyway

GGG to batter Murray inside 4.
Who's that Mexican chump you like to big up again?? Compared to Murray he'd be almost boxing's gretest bum!!
But you stick to your Martin Murray's and Scott Quigg's...
And you stick to bigging up Miguel 'Joe Average' Vasquez....

I think between you all, you lads have just about covered the reasons why Khan splits opinion and doesn’t always get the big-time support you might expect a talented, good-looking, well-mannered and generally entertaining fighter to get. I think you’d be kidding yourself if you tried to argue that his ethnicity and / or religion doesn’t play some (just some) part, because it’s an unfortunate blight on society that will never be fully erased.
I was at the Khan-St Clair fight back in 2008 and one vivid memory I have of it is some Burberry-clad chav hoodlum shouting when Khan was shown on the arena’s screen before his fight, “I hope he gets effing knocked out, the P*** ****.” When this charming fella saw Khan’s opponent on the same screen seconds later, his reaction was to then shout, “I hope he gets effing knocked out as well, the black ****.” As long as boxing attracts that kind of element, even though it's very much a fringe one, Khan might not get the absolute, full credit or support he deserves.
That doesn't mean that anyone who isn't a Khan fan or backs the other guy to beat him is a bigot, mind you. Ridiculous to suggest that, as we don't owe it to anyone to support them blindly and he has given people genuine reasons to dislike him, namely with some of his daft proclamations about his own greatness, a sometimes superior kind of attitude shown towards other professionals etc, buying in to the hype of his promoters about him being a star before he'd even fought a ranked opponent etc. If you're a real ball-breaker then you might even hold his webcam misdemeanours against him, too!
Thing is though, a lot of that stuff came when he was basically still a kid in overall terms. Are the above mistakes / undesirable traits symptomatic of a really nasty piece of work and horrible character, or are they just reflective and pretty typical of the kind of stuff most blokes in their early to mid twenties have got up to or misjudged in varying degrees? For me it's much more the latter. I'm about a year and a half younger than Khan, but I know very well that I'd hate to be judged for stupid things I've said, mistakes I've made or naive opinions I've held in my late teens / early twenties for the rest of my life.
I think he's a good guy overall who just isn't the smartest. As a fighter he's ambitious, good to watch, has a massive heart and is a hard worker who puts in the graft to improve himself whenever he's had a setback, so you can't find much fault there. I'd be cheering him on against any of Manny, Floyd or Brook.

I think theres obviously an element of that but mostly its people like coxy who are quite happy to tell you cowpat stories and resent when someone else does the same. He's a little bit cocky and pushes for goals that are a little bit beyond him, which seems to endear him to some and make him a target for others. Fairly complex mesh of issues that shouldn't be put down into such definite terms or any one issue. For me he's a fighter who can win or lose in fantastically mad fashion so I watch him and cheer him on because he works hard, chases the bigger fights and generally does the job despite a glaring weakness that might have hindered ones with lesser spirit. And he does it in a way thats pretty good to watch so great combination for me.

Re: GGG v Murray....Anybody want Murray to win ?
I met murrays old manager in Vegas for the Mayweather maidana fight and he told me Murray had been up for a ggg fight for a while but his handlers thought he would get a pasting. I like Murray and thought he beat both sturm and Martinez in bouts he wasn't meant to stand a chance in. Get the feeling however that he won't see the final bell here. Any where from rd 5-7

Yeah I'd love to see Murray win, be hilarious to see Golovkin get knocked out.
Very interesting though to see if Murray can make it to the final bell. That in itself would be an achievement.

I can't watch sport without caring who wins. I'll pick any random reason if I have to, otherwise I probably won't bother watching. That's the point of competition... Its caring who wins that gives it drama, tension, emotional involvement.
I don't get over-involved any more, that's old age for you. I can appreciate skill, or bravery or whatever... But ultimately it's a pretty dull experience for me if I don't have an interest in the result. Luckily, I can usually find a reason to despise one of the participants enough to not have to develop a gambling habit for kicks:D

Re: GGG v Murray....Anybody want Murray to win ?
I will be cheering on Murray but I'll be equally happy if GGG wins as I really like him, due to his refreshing attitude towards fighting other champions.
Re Khan I like him because of his boxing style, being involved in good fights, backs himself against the best, etc.
Equally I dislike because he thinks he can come across as arrogant & disresctful sometimes, especially recently with Brook (bearing in mind that Khan doesn't have a world title) saying that he's chasing bigger fights & that Brook needs to build up his fanbase etc - really??? Get over yourself!

I agree with this whole heartedly.........I always support someone......Obviously it makes it easier If New York or Man Utd are playing.....
But I'll tend to want someone to win....
